A couple of my mother's gems,' I wish you had never been born' and, 'I wish I had never had you.'
I don't know what I ever did to earn her opprobrium, but she kept it up until her dying day.
Not once in her life did we ever have a bit of 'quality time' together, we never shared a bottle of wine, we never went for a coffee and a lovely chat, not even once. She was a horrible, spiteful, mean and nasty woman.
When she died, I did not, and have not since, shed one single tear at her passing.
I envy all of you who have/had lovely mothers.

My mother's favourite was when you came into the house and left a door open she always said "Shut the door, were you born in a barn"

My nanna was hilarious! She would send me on errands and call after me 'hurry now, and if you fall over on the way, don't stop to pick yourself up will you?' Daft me would reply 'okay!' !!!!!!
She also said she loved a glass of 'shitter bandy' I was a full grown up when that penny dropped! ha ha.
Another strange one was if you asked her did she want something, she would reply 'D'ya want died years ago!' hmmmmmmm

My mother refused to swear. She got around that by saying "Hell's Bells " a lot. Guess that was OK.

My mum used to say to me & my sister - "Go and play in heavy traffic" - not too big on health and safety back then! 🙂

My dad's favourite was "Let your meat stop your mouth."

Didn't our parents have some sayings back in the day some were quite cruel really and we probably wouldn't
get away with it now. But at least we can laugh at what they used to say.
Best wishes

My mum used to say to me, " Time flies, you cannot, they fly too fast." apparently her mum said it to her and her brothers and sisters. I'm an only child so there was no one else to share it with.

My mum didn't like chewing gum at all and always used to say never to swallow it as it will become wrapped around your heart. To this day I cannot swallow gum.

Haha, my Mum used to say the same Crunchie and you reminded me that she also used to tell us not to eat the pips in apples or we would have apple trees growing out of our bottoms

Response from Mollflanders made on 1st Oct 2016 18:09:19
I had that too Treehugger, from my dad as well. Brought it all back to me a few days ago when I said it to my grandson. My grandson's reply was 'well they can have this!'. Cheeky monkey. Daren't have said that to my dad ha ha.

Haha, yes my children used to say that to me as well. Can you imagine talking to our parents like that - then it would probably have been go to bed with no dinner lol

When we asked what was for dinner, Mum's reply would be either "Bread and pull it" or "Step and fetch it".

There were 4 of us children, sometimes at the end of her tether, Mum would say " I'll put you in a home" We hadn't a clue what she meant. We were quiet for a while.

My mum used to say
"Stand still and come here"
No wonder a lot of my childhood was surrounded in confusion

A smile costs nothing; it's only a thing (after I broke a vase); and she spoke silently of gentleness, love and tolerance.
