Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hi I live north of Bristol, about 20 minutes by car. I am a , sort of, young 69 and work full time so cannot get out during the day and get involved in local groups, which leaves me getting lazy and alone.
I am pretty well traveled, like good music and good food.
I have made a few errors of judgement in my younger days, but don't regret them as I feel I have lived life to the full. Thing is, I hope there's a long way to go yet and would love to share some of it with someone.
Peter

Hi LittleMinx. I love Thai food and can cook a little bit of it too. I shop every month at a Chinese supermarket in Bristol called Wai Yee Hong, spend far too much money, but then I'm an impulsive shopper.
I have lived here near Bristol for the past 5 years having lived and worked in Thailand for 15 Years before that and originally from south London.
Now you've started me off, my life history, should have been a writer (horror).
Bye for now.
Response from peterinth made on 30th Dec 2016 10:49:01
Ahh Thailand. The land of smiles.
Go as a tourist and visit all the tourist spots, then go around again under your own steam. Taxis are cheap (make sure you have an idea how much it will cost first and don't barter with the driver, just close the door politely and wave down another taxi).
Eat from the stalls that are busy, where you have to queue. Things to 'must eat' are:
Spicy prawn soup (tom yang goong), sliced chicken with rice and cucumber + soup and a small serving of spicy sauce (cow mon gai) and rice with fried minced pork with green beans and a fried egg on top. (capow moo sap lagore kai dow).
The list is endless.
I'm off now 'cause I'm hungry.

Hi celtwitch

I have just joined today and seeking friends and perhaps a holiday companion.

I live in Lancashire in a little village called Tarleton, between Southport and Preston.

Well I am sure that you love your dog. I have cats and live alone but at least they are company.

I am in your age group, young minded I like to think. Still working part time 3 days a week.

Love to hear from you.

Kind Regards

Well, you're earlier than me, up since 0700 but only just come on-line. Very frosty and icy here this morning plus thick fog which has caused havoc to some drivers.

Done all the necessary chores and now chilling, a daily habit of mine!

Lyndanorth1. Welcome. A New Year is on the way. Make that another starting point to new and better ways for yourself. Family and people in general are preoccupied, occupied and forget in so many different ways these days. Society in general have evolved into a morass of muchness in every form. Our age group will always remember back to what we think was better days. New Year, new thinking. Bright thoughts and look up. Not every day will you make it but you can. If any of us are down there is only one way to go. Up.

It`s actually mostly a case of trial by error, as it is with a lot of other things. But, that`s all part of the fun, really. My own particular learning curve...is still curving...!!

I have a son and daughter who are trying to help but do have lives of their own. I have a grandaughter and grandson .I just want some friends as I am lonely.I have 2 Chihuahuas hence my name don't know if I am doing this right hope so.
I live in Scotland.
Response from Georgie Girl made on 19th Dec 2016 19:58:12
Hello Chihuahualady, goodness had to copy and paste your forum name, kept getting it wrong. Sorry to hear your having marriage problems, not something you expect at 70 my heart goes out to you. I am fortunate to be happily married, have one son and one granddaugher but for many other reasons I can feel terribly alone, to the point where it effects me deep deep down in my gut and I feel terrified of it. Do your son and daughter live nearby?
What are your dogs names? are they male/female? related? We had a beautiful Bichon Frise who died last year at 16, such a huge miss.
You can send me a private message if you wish. I live in the North of England, midway between Durham and Newcastle.
Response from Chihuahualady made on 20th Dec 2016 23:01:59
Hi Georgie girl
Suppose name is a mouthful my son and daughter live within walking distance I am lucky that way. My dogs ate female Chihuahuas one tiny white short coat called Trixie who does not know she is little brave as a lion. The other is ginger and white long coat who is the opposite very laid back.My granddaughter has just graduated in zoology did very well my grandson is in second year even though he has just turned 18 reading computer science they are great kids no bother.I am sorry you lost your dog that was a good age.I know it is terrible when you loose them
I find this forum confusing I tried to reply earlier but it went astray. I don't know what I am doing yet sure I will get the hang of it.though. It is good to talk to you I hope I can find you again.
Best wishes
Chihuahualady

Firstly I would like to welcome other Newbies like myself.

Boredom is my problem but mainly due to over the past couple of years things have happened which has made me lose faith in human nature, so I am tending to hibernate. I am married (happily) thank goodness, have one son who is divorced, one granddaughter. I am in the North of England, midway between Durham and Newcastle.

My close friend died at only 64, we have/had two other sets of friends who have gone to live in Majorca, we can't even fly there from Newcastle between October and March. In 2014 I started a new branch of the U3A and am as proud as punch that I have personally changed the life of over 140 people, yet ironically, I have had some unhappiness from this project.

Reading through some other messages, it is clear, there are a lot of people have so many things to put up with and far from easy going lives. I am a Reiki Practitioner and Reflexologist, coming on here has sort of made me feel that I may just take this up again, I did this voluntary for a mental health organization and found the staff as well as the service users got a lot out of it, maybe I am wasting my talents! I am curious if anyone on here as actually ever tried Reiki and what you thought of it.

Muserseven, I hope the sun shines every day for you on holiday and your husband.
Response from KEITH_WL made on 24th Oct 2016 19:14:22
I'm in a discussion with another practitioner about Reiki and am open to further information about it. I've never tried it - correct that to "haven't yet" - but I've had Reflexology and was impressed.

Keith

Georgie girl That may be just what you need to put an end to the boredom, and feel like you have a purpose in life. Stop hiding away life is precious. I lost my only sister last year after she put up a very brave fight with cancer, and if anyone deserved to be here it is her...she so wanted a few more years, so make the most of everyday starting today. Your friend would probably tell you the same x
Response from Vantodder made on 25th Oct 2016 16:19:21
Hello Georgie Girl Like you I am new on here and live in the same area, my wife but has now has parkinsons which we have managed fine for years but has now reached end stage so I am her 24/7 carer. The actions of her family and friends has tended to make me lose faith in human nature as they have all kept their distance apart from our youngest daughter and her husband even though they both work full time and live some distance away they have been there for us, and still are all the way.
Have never tried Reiki but have heard our other daughter who is a nurse talk about it . Certainly would like to know more about it as mental health nurse is due to see my wife later this week

Hi Georgie
I am also new to this so here goes!
My name is Fran and I live in London now. I've lived all over the country so can relate to many places. I am also a 'lapsed' reiki practioner who keeps thinking I should restart using it. I only did it for friends and family so not hugely experienced but found it worked.
Would love to get involved in chas/ community so keep me in the loop
