WALKING!!!

I can't believe the cycling is specifically on the subject list but not walking!? I am sure there are a multitude of fellow walkers out there? I am ne here and located in South Somerset. I mostly walk the SW coast path around my f/t job and would love to hear of more of you who are doing the same anywhere?

Always loved walking. In my 50's I did several lovely trails. Cotswold way, South Downs way. and as I am in Norfolk Walked the Ridgeway up to the Icknield Way, then Pedars Way. So completely West and home to east. I walk mainly on my own with one dog. So used to book BB for each night, averaging 15 miles per day. I would love to do many more, but I have 4 dogs now so not many BB's take that many!

I also love walking! Every day after dinner, I will go out for a walk for several kilometers, not only to promote digestion, but also to see the scenery along the way, discover new things, and relax. There are so many benifits of walking(https://bpdoctormed.com/blogs/walking/5-advantages-of-walking-you-should-know).

You appear to have got walking on the list! Judging by the number of mature walkers I see in the local area, there must be more of us on here. Maybe the lack of a walking heading was putting them putting their best foot forward so to speak.

Am North Wilts and enjoy the walking on the chalk downs. My all time favourite is the neolithic landscape around Avebury, which is my go to activity on either Christmas or Boxing day. It was the latter this year and my camera gear came along for the trip. Used to be out and about a lot more than now, including some quite adventurous ecening walks on school nights when there's more light about. For a few years did a 'first walkers of the New Year' around midnight and went out with just the starlight (if any) for guidance. Good views of multiple fireworks from some vantage points.

Walked up and down Snowdon with my then partner probably about 10 yearsd ago now. Went up Rhydd Ddu (?) which is a bit more scenic than the 'motorway' and a lot quieter.

Have a nephew and friends in Australia. On one visit, a relative of the friends took me out into the Dandenongs, not too far from Meblourne. It was very humid and the most demanding conditions I've ever walked in. The locals, somewhat more used to it, didn't slacken the pace for the newcomer. My face was fire engine red!

Do enjoy the coast and have walked from Sandbanks to Swanage and back on one occasion, to Swanage and back by bus on another occasion.

I love walking, and have been a member of a ladies walking group for 14 years. However I now find that at 74, I am now quite slow compared to other members, and 6 miles is about my limit, I am really good at map reading, and don't mind getting lost (I can always find my way when confronted by changes from the maps I use), but walking alone is not the same.!! I need a group of folks like me!!

I have a similar situation Sally. I have RA and although always a field and forest walker, I find I can only do that with frequent 5 minute stops. I would love to find a walking group that didn't feel held back by those who have to 'walk and stop' a lot! I also agree that walking with others is a completely different experience to going on your own!

Perhaps you could start your own group in your area and I agree there are not enough groups for folk with challenges

I love to walk, used to spend most weekends walking the Derbyshire Peak District. Then I was diagnosed with RA which knocked me back a fair way, in every way imaginable. However, now on a frightening amount of tablets that enable me to walk some days so I do. Problem is I haven't yet found a walking group that can accommodate someone who needs frequent 5 minute rests! Yes, I could go on my own and sometimes I do but it's a different experience completely when you walk with others! I also like to take my camera because you never know what you you might be fortunate enough to witness in the countryside.

We live in Oregon, US and my partner and I do the same. I have MS and now use a walker, but we have not problem finding places to walk, and it certainly keeps us active.

I was getting pretty lazy so now I am walking every day around our huge mall. I weave back and forth until I have covered all inside lanes and out side of the bldg. It sure helps to walk everyday. It does wonders.

Helo Yogafan, I love walking too. I live in Essex and belong to a walking group. We try to do riverside walks when weather allows. I've been to Cornwall several times and I'm always in awe of the beauty of the places.

Hallo, I like to walk and usually go out with the U3A or the Ramblers which of course have stopped.
I now do the same routes on my own as I don't have the know how or confidence to read maps or work out routes.
But I'm grateful to be able to get out.

My favourite walking country is the coastal path of Pembrokeshire, Wales, the scenery is stunning and in Spring and early summer the cliffs and banks are ablaze with wild flowers, bluebells orchids and thrift of all shades of pink natural gardens. At low tide the sands, coves and beaches are a joy to visit. We have walked nearly all of it in stages many times over the years. It never disappoints.

My partner and I walk every day, usually 3 - 5 miles. We are lucky to live in a village in Kent and there are many beautiful walks in easy reach. We also do Geo-Caching to make the walks more interesting and fun. After all the rain we have had of late some footpaths are very muddy and some impassable, so we keep to the lanes. They are so busy now that everyone is out doing their daily exercise. A lot of people do not know the Highway Code when walking, to walk on the right facing the oncoming traffic, so much safer, and it saves all the dances you have to do when people are walking on the incorrect side of the road! So I hope everyone is enjoying our countryside and getting out in the fresh air each day Keep walking!!

Hi everyone. I love walking and it's my preferred way of keeping fit. I find though that I need something to motivate me especially in the cold damp weather so I have registered with Walk 1000 miles in 2021. It averages out at walking just under 3 miles a day. We are fortunate that we have a Nature Reserve locally so at the moment I am taking most of my walks round there. Stay safe and well everyone.

Hi Angi
I like walking and often miss out because of everyday activities. Parks near me in central London are St James and Hyde Park.
Keep in touch and stay well

Love walking Coastal Paths, usually travel down to Cornwall, demanding walking but the scenery is stunning. Just wish the lungs and the legs were as good as twenty years ago.

Good to see walking as a topic. With whats going on this year i have not trsvelled to do my walking, just my local routes in Kent. Normally i travel to Wales, the Lakes, Devon, cornwall and sometimes Norfolk. Had planned the Isle of Whight and Dartmoor this year, but that all went pear shaped
