Hi. On the 31st January 2017 I am flying to Sydney to visit relatives and then explore Australia. Planning to spend about 2 months out there. Is there anyone out there who is planning a similar trip. It would be good to fly out together and possibly see some sites together. If you are interested then email me and we could meet and discuss. I live in Kent in the UK.

I am 54 year old single straight female from UK and living in Los Angeles and love to travel but no fun alone! I just joined today. I would love to connect with and find a great fun companion who shares the same desire and ideas of places to travel to. I want to go away in mid December or January for 1 - 2 weeks and considering somewhere hot or at least warm and possibly a health spa vacation.
Response from Sunshine2017 made on 3rd Oct 2016 23:21:49
I am traveling to South India for 3 weeks leaving in Dec returning early January. Weather in Bangalore is a balmy 75 degrees. Have traveled solo most of the time and think it will be fun to have a like minded travel companion. Planning other trips to the UK in summer. Perhaps we can chat via email to see if there are common travel interests.

I am a Canadian looking for someone to share a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, on the Pacific Ocean, just north of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. I am a 65 year old female and just don't want to spend the winter alone. I've done it before but it's always better with a companion. I've rented a house already for Jan -March 2017 and looking for someone to share part of that time, a week, a month, whatever.

I'm just back from a six day cruise of the Caribbean, which was super! But, with the Holidays coming I'm already considering either a short trip, here in the USA, from the Detroit, Michigan area, before New Years, or I'd like to get back to Europe, which I've not bin 2 since 2004. Last year, I was in Boston for New Years and they put on a very impressive fireworks New Years Eve, on Boston Commons. Also, attended "The Nutcracker." @ Boston's Opera House, what an architectural beauty! Anybody got any ideas? Oh, I'm a college educated retired bachelor, of very, very modest means: so I need "run up" time for my travel plans (to save money for purchase and spending), sadly its the way of my world, but travel is worth sacrifice! So, I have the time and desire ta go, but minus the dinero to jump quickly on a trip.

This is probably a little to late, but I just joined silver surfers. I mean to both save enough money to do this (cuz I'm an American who needs to save up some money and that is only two months to save, and it is a bit difficult to meet and determine if we would enjoy each others company)? So, initially, I would need to know if those things are deal breakers for you, and finally, "How much is it?" I'm in good health, no meds. I've a degree in American Studies, which might not appeal to a European? Retired almost ten years, and while I've been to Paris 15 times, and Mexico and Germany and Italy, I've yet to get to Asia. Actually, I really want to get to India! Not just the Taj, but the warm weather and the people.
Response from Frankyboy made on 17th Nov 2016 04:44:58
Also, I just got back from my second Caribbean cruise, this one ending in SanJuan, Puerto Rico. It was nice, and I may have made some new friends. I know I had a really nice time and the space betwixt the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean would be quite exotic, for me. I'm not sure how I would best get there: (a) fly to England and go with you to S.E. Asia, or (b) go west and meet you in S.E. Asia, which seems like too much flying "solo," which doesn't appeal to me. Either way, I'd have to deal with the last leg home to Michigan, in the US would be mine, but I've done that (going via Europe) and it is shorter than crossing the Pacific, alone?

Hi everyone! I'm recently retired and planning to walk the Camino de Santiago next fall! I hope to begin the pilgrimage in late Sept. or early Oct. Looking for one or two others to begin the journey with me... I have few exact plans at this point and open to ideas of others. I'm going to attend local events, Seattle, Washington, to meet with others that have successfully done the trek. Anyone else out there ready for the challenge....?
Response from Frankyboy made on 17th Nov 2016 04:17:43
I am very new to this. I just registered a day, ago. I am an American retired bachelor. I've traveled both alone, mostly, and with a very controlling but travel savy person, who drove me away(waiting for information - they always wanted to surprise me, or keep me from guessing, or something plus they had anger issues). So, remembering travel (which I love) and feeling competent and friendly, I now am trying to companion travel (plus, it is cheaper - no single supplements, Yuk!). As for the Camino de Santiago de Compastella, I've burned to walk that for just about a decade. I used to stay @ a small hotel in Paris, down the street from the Church, where it is usually the starting point. I'm in Michigan. Whether you get a group, or it is just you, I'd be very interested for next year.

Tentative Travel plans and itinerary for Alaska, Canada, Upper mid-west, and Northwest USA.

YOU, want to get to your farthest designation as quickly as you can and then venture on your return in more detail when traveling to and from. This trip is like a to and from with a circle.

Vehicle: Reconditioned 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4 x 4 with a 5.2 engine. 131,000 miles (designed for 300,000 miles. You find my reconstruction by going to the website with photos in the first album. www.flickr.com/photos/travelbuzz/sets  . All body work will be finished beginning in April 2017.  There is also a 20 cu.ft  storage cargo carrier for the roof of the Jeep manufactured by Thule from Sweden. Besides a tow package on the jeep that can just about tow anything. Stereo system by Sony w/ disk and mp3 player, 4 speakers, two in the front doors and two large ( 10 to 12 in sq.) in the rear cargo area.

Your costs: 50/50 on all fuel and general maintenance of the jeep, food, lodging, etc, etc, etc. There is another cost divided 50/50 of the wear and tear of the Jeep and supplies to be agreed upon. There is a 300 dollar deposit that will be returned to you less any bills out standing. This deposit in non refundable 6 weeks before departure date of late May 30th, 2017, our tentative leaving date. You must commit for at least two months of the trip before any refund is refunded. The two months would bring us to Seattle, Washington USA for any transportation that you would need to travel anywhere.

I will also look into any added vehicle insurance that you may have to contribute for this trip with my insurance company. Canada will want proof and I must be insured for this country.

You, must have all documents, medicial insurance (please check), to enter Canada and back into the USA. You must send me proof of all your documents three months before we leave WITH YOUR 300 DOLLAR deposit.

Hi! I live with my husband in the rural suburbs of Plymouth in Devon, England. We have a modest bungalow with a super guest bedroom; a large garden with stunning views; beautiful surrounding countryside and coast; and only a 15/20 minute drive to Plymouth city centre, with good shopping, visitor attractions, cafes, bars & restaurants. We are also very close to the fantastic county of Cornwall!
We would be delighted to accommodate a single lady/gentleman or couple from overseas in our home, and show them our beautiful area too if they wished.
I would prefer to correspond by email or social media initially to ensure that we are most likely to enjoy one another's company and get on well together!
We have 2 cats, & one very sweet dog...we may have 2 dogs soon as I am trying to persuade my husband that a Pug puppy would make a perfect addition to our family!
We are told that we are really nice, easy-going people with a good sense of humour, so we would enjoy acting as hosts to similar people, & hopefully become lifelong friends!
Please contact me if you will be visiting England during 2017, tell us something about yourself & partner if you have one, and we will take it from there!
Looking forward to making new, nice, interesting friends!

Hi all,
I'm an Australian living in Houston TX. I am a young 61yo, well travelled widow. It has been very lonely since my husband passed and I have been playing with different ideas of what I would like to do with my life from here on in. I have thought about selling my home and just moving around, but I worry about losing my home base security.
I am Italian by heritage and do speak the language. I have a lot of family in Italy and Australia, but I don't actually want to live in Australia again full time.
I have cruised a lot, I RV'd here in the US full time for 7 years with my husband (which I loved doing!) and although I am asset strong, cash flow is limited and there is still so much of the world and the US I would love to see, so if anyone needs a fun companion, I'd be open to it!
Response from Fpath12 made on 24th May 2016 21:26:13
Hi ,I love the idea of travelling with a RV. I am open to suggestions. Let me know your thoughts.
Response from KEITH_WL made on 24th May 2016 21:40:39
I'm hopeless at abbreviations, what does RV mean? I did a look up and it came up with umpteen possible meanings.
Response from PrimaTX made on 25th May 2016 15:15:57
Recreational Vehicle 🙂
Response from KEITH_WL made on 25th May 2016 17:41:53
Thanks Prima. Will you say a bit more - what defines a recreational vehicle? It's not an idea that has come my way since my mode of travel is usually train. (I was interested that a train I travelled in last summer from France to Germany displayed the speed - just under 200mph. I do mean mph, it was of course given in kph, nearly 320.)
Response from KimFh made on 30th May 2016 20:19:16
She means Camper Van, also known as RV.
Response from KEITH_WL made on 30th May 2016 20:29:56
Thanks for the clarification, Kim.

Just read a post on this subject below, where a poor lady met up with someone to travel with, someone she did not know well, and sadly and cruelly this person "scammed her" ran off with her money under the guise of booking their trip. We must ALL be careful with what and who we share information with, on any forum, as those who are unscrupulous will at times join such forums for the purpose of scamming. And this poor lady, sorry forget her "handle" right now, was obviously a trusting and genuine person and automatically thought everyone to be the same. Forums are great for the initial contact, but, and it's a bit but, the only way to know someone, someone you may want to travel with is to get to KNOW them in the real world, and not divulge too much via the internet.

Don't automatically presume because someone is friendly, or you meet them on a forum, whether it be SilverSurfers or not, they are who they say they are. If you meet with someone OFF the forum, ensure:

1. you meet in a public place
2.You let someone know where and who you're meeting
3. Don't give your home address to anyone until you know them very well.
4. If you give out a phone number - don't give your land line, use a mobile number, harder to trace than a land line.
5. If they start to ask about money, or say they're suffering financial difficulties be very aware.
6. Don't invite anyone in to your home just because you get on well in a forum - because it's no different to meeting a total stranger out and then inviting them home. People can get very lost in the "friends zone" of forums and presume someone is genuine.
7. Go on your gut instincts, they are usually spot on - if you feel something, no matter how small, or you can't quite put your finger on it, TRUST it and act upon it.
8. Never give money to someone even in person to book a holiday, or anything else that means passing over a considerable sum of money. This ONLY belongs to the people we have known a lifetime or a very, very long time.

For women looking for female travel companions, you might like

Response from KEITH_WL made on 4th Aug 2016 13:16:45
Good for you, Suzanne. I have met online contacts, most of them in other countries in fact, and my method is much like yours. We have usually followed a step-by-step procedure, giving it time, like this:-

1) First contact in social network.
2) Text chat.
3) Exchange - and use - e-mail.
4) Phone contact - voice only.
5) Possibly Skype.
6) Arrange to meet in a public place and/or with safe persons in attendance.

The number is not large (*), about 6-8. All except one have become real friends. That one was not unsafe but we didn't hit it off and are no longer in touch.

(*) I learnt a Spanish proverb years ago: "Amigos y libros, pocos, buenos y bien conocidos".

Keith
Response from thommo made on 9th Aug 2016 23:51:57
Yes that is a great list of things Suzanne 511 to check, verify and get right before you consider any holiday partner.
It is such a shame that many people nowadays are on their own and would still like to venture abroad and enjoy the final years of their lives and maybe fulfill that bucket list.
Common sense i guess at the end of the day and only after a few meets and get to know someone before agreeing anything and most importantly pay at the same time for anything.
Good luck if you are in this position.
Response from SA made on 22nd Oct 2016 09:54:44

Just a thought - I have been to one-day meets of a group based on a newsgroup devoted to The Archers. Firm friendships were made because we'd *met* and in safe circumstances. A development of the idea might be to base such meetings on regions to cut down travelling.
