Pen pals
Watch this postI have been pen palling for a while now does anyone else do this and is there somewhere on the site for this? It would be nice to write to people on here if they were interested.

My name is Jan and I can empathize with your situation. My husband doesn’t have dementia, but lost his eyesight from diabetes and has many medical issues, so I am his caregiver. My days are very long and having to deal with his anger at his loss, gets a bit hard to deal with.
Dementia steals so much of your life. My sister was just put into a home and sometimes doesn’t recognize her children, which is horrible for them. It takes who you are and destroys it.
I just discovered this chat forum for plus 50s. I am 68, a caregiver t my blind, diabetic, kidney disease and hypertension husband. He sleeps most of the day, and I have a huge void in my life.
I used to be a person with varied interests until arthritis stole this from me. My keen interest is writing and I wrote my autobiography (not published), as part of my understanding my childhood years, which weren’t great, as I imagine that I am not alone there…lol.
I have a whacky sense of humour and would love to meet someone who had a rocky start on life too.
Jan

I'm 73 and live in Perth, Australia.
If you'd like to say hello please drop me a line.
Best wishes,
James
It is a pleasure to meet you. I have several relatives in Australia that my aunt used to visit. Unfortunately she never left me any names of our relatives. Let me know if there are any Killan’s that you may notice down under.
I live in Cochrane, Alberta Canada which is at the base of the Rocky Mountains and near Banff. Alberta’s mountain and foothills carnivore wildlife includes wolves, coyotes, black bears, grizzlies and mountain lions, which show up in Cochrane every now and then. I love the deer and elk that stop on my street for a snack as the head for the river.
This week I am going to force myself to go take Qigong and yoga at our seniors centre. I really need to get out of my house for a few hours. Hard being a compassionate caregiver with an angry person who lost his eyesight to diabetes.
I have a daughter Shauna and my grandchildren includes Anthony, a personal trainer, his companion Gayle, and great granddaughter’s Isabel and Dylan. And Breanna is my granddaughter and she is graduating high school this year and is finishing her gymnastics training in June. She also works at the gym as a coach. I don’t spend much time with my family as my husband doesn’t get along with them and I can’t visit as I would like as I can’t leave a blind man alone.
I got a kitten last Wednesday and she looks Siamese, but her father is a hairless Sphinx and mother calico. She doesn’t have much fur, which is good in my books…lol.
Look forward to learning about your life in Australia.
Jan
I haven’t heard from you. Hope all is well. My email address is [email protected] if you would like to chat directly.
Scotland and Ireland are in my bucket list, I love everything about them, foods, the country side, the vast lore that comes with the castles and the people. I would very much to find pen-pals to share life over the many miles...
I love to cook, travel, camping, making new friends. Please don't hesitate to drop a line.

I love letters. My 1st pen pal was in the 3rd grade, a literature assignment. I wrote for years with a teacher from island off Africa.
She actually came to Port Aransas, family vacation,,I met her family an we spent many hours at beach an pool side..
It's just great to write, share pics and just sometimes have someone to vent and listen to their advice and their vents.
Looking for that special friend thru the mail. Maybe even some day after getting to each other....Meet...
Nice profile!
Good that you write short stories and poems.
I've written some (very very short) stories for kids.
I live in Perth, Australia.
Please feel free to drop me a line should you feel so inclined.

James

There are several historical calligraphic letter forms to practice from ancient times before the printing press. Most are exotic and more suitable for greeting cards than the smaller forms for correspondence. For the Italic handwriting style look for a "stub" fountain pen. Pilot makes one that takes cartridges or you can add a "converter" that can draw ink from a bottle. The Plumix fountain pens are inexpensive and while not a traditional pen body is practical to use. The traditional body Pilot pen with the same medium pen point (called a nib) is the Metropolitan. Once again for that calligraphy look it a 'stub' ,medium, Bold, or Double Bold (if you can find one). The medium is fine for Italic calligraphy. Look for samples of the style with Google images...some have instructional value.
A traditional dip pen is near impossible to stroke up without catching on the paper, so letter are formed with 2 to 4 strokes per letter. A fountain pen is tipped with a rounded hard material that lets you create some letters with less strokes...still it's best to keep it traditional until you can speed write and find your own style.
Lamy and TWSBI make a stub version. They are more blunt, making less crisp strokes but offer different filling devices

will probably have to open a chat room with potential writers as you
will need to give your postal address and not so safe on this general
site. I used to have pen pals whilst in the Army, and more recently I
was writing to a lovely lady who lived in Florida USA, but I lost touch
with her a year or so ago. Like you I loved to receive letters, but now
only get bills. Good luck, take care and stay safe, best wishes, Terry.
about the letters but if you just want someone to chat to on this
site I will be here if you feel a bit lonely, I like live in Southampton
and only been here 7 months, and with the restrictions in place it
is difficult to meet others. I love to travel so am looking forward to
next year when I hope to go back to Cape Town in March or April.
Hope to hear from you when you want to have a general chat.
Until then, take care and stay safe. Best wishes, Terry.
