Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

I Have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century and I finally took the plunge and purchased a laptop.
I am 56 years old but younger than my daughter. ( I believe age is an attitude)
I am a busy lady I don't have much time to socialise but I am passionate about changing things for the better in society. For me, a computer is a learning tool and the internet an amazing communication device. I am hoping to learn more from anyone out there who has positive suggestions for improving things for self and others.
I am English so I will be spelling words like socialise with an "s" and not a "z" despite my computers insistence that this is wrong.
I am a Course Supervisor ( a Study Technology specialist ) for the Church of Scientology and I am currently writing this post in a quiet moment.
P.S. My post means I am able to assist others in their quest for knowledge it does not mean I am a purrfect student and no evryfing.
I've found I have become lock into a bit of a rut so I'm looking for an out. I drive and enjoy driving and getting out and about. I use to like walking unfortunately I can't walk very far at all, that may improve with time. I have a creative flare I have a keen interest in anything creative be it photography arts and crafts, old buildings, churches, villages and music.
The few friends I had have moved away, I'm hoping to find and make new friends for my own sanity if nothing else lol. I have looked around other sites for my age group and also for people with a physical disability but most of them either don't fit the bill or they are dating sites which I'm not really looking for at this moment in time.
So here I am ready to take a slice of life and venture out in to the big wide world and see where it takes me.

There's a lot of people here who probably share a lot of your interests 🙂
I'm sure that you will find lots of topics of interest on this site. I'm interested in photography and churches - the older, the better although I do love Coventry Cathedral, which is relatively new having been opened 55 years ago. I remember going on a school trip to stay in Stratford and see two Shakespeare plays (have to admit I haven't a clue what they were as I dozed through both of them!) but the highlight for me was having a guided tour round the cathedral - think I must have been an odd 15 year old ............ and have I changed much over the years - who knows 🙂 Hope to see some of your photos in the Showcase soon.
If you would like to private chat id be pleased to hear from you.
Not sure what to say but I had some health scares for the pass 9 yrs and now coming out of the rot
decided its time to start living again. Making new friends is the 1st step . I live in Northampton but
friends can be from anywhere just be genuine.
Hope to start some friendships soon.
You have had a well traveled time and you would sure miss it in retirement. You would have wonderful stories. You can still live and relive those stories in conversation. Hopefully you still are in contact with some past sailing buddies.
Do chat away on here. Some people will pick up on your pieces you put on.
Reserve in people can cause hesitation in responding.
Take life by the tail and shake it. It does not matter what age any of us are.
Enjoy everything, even that which is under our noses.
I hope my message reached you....
But not sure....
I have not got the hang of this site yet....
You are not far from Wigan
I'd be really happy to chatter with you....

Welcome to Silversurfers. I'm sure that you will find lots of interesting topics to join in with and, if you don't fancy any of the current subjects then you can always create one of your own for others to comment on. Speakers Corner is usually interesting and if you like photography there are some super photos on the site.
New to this group. Thought I would post to see what might result.
I'm a widower - senior (don't knock it!) - but very fit and active. Any senior, preferably a widow, interested in corresponding with a Canadian regarding making friends (of the opposite sex) while still not over your loved one.
I would also love to find a travelling companion, preferably a widow ( but doesn't have to be) - for cruises or cycling holidays or month long trips to souhern European countries.

I live in North Wiltshire so not too far away. You are the first i have seen from Wiltshire.
Feel free to have a chat anytime.
Just hope you are getting along on here...
Would be pleased to send a message....

I'm new to this so please forgive me if I appear to be a bit dozy and do things wrong.. I am 68 and retired almost 2 years ago. I had been a sociology lecturer in my local university and I loved my job but have to admit to it being a tad stressful. I am interested in national politics, women's issues and my family.
I have 2 daughters, one who has a lovely husband and 3 children of her own. She lives about 40 miles away so I don't see them as often as I would like. My afterthought child, born when I was in my late 40s is currently 20 and studying zoology at university. She has just returned to uni after the Easter break. I'm happily single but would love to make new friends.
I love cooking, reading for pleasure (after so many years doing work related reading) and arts and crafts. I work voluntarily with people with mental health difficulties where I run a craft group and also a creative writing and poetry group. When I retired I decided to start painting and (think) I'm improving although I'm no Renoir. I use either acrylics or pastels although I did try water colours when I first began.
These kinds of activities suit me as my health isn't brilliant. It isn't bad enough to stop me getting out and about though. Originally from Cheshire, I now live in Staffordshire with my 3 cats Bramble, Thistle and Willow.
That's about it for the moment. If I don't sound too off-putting then please respond. I love to laugh and to chat so am looking forward to whiling away my spare time engaging with you on this site.
Best wishes Sandie
A busy person, as you know that will lead to striking up conversation on many topics.. I am in Northern Ireland and try to interact when something catches my interest or has a bit of a bite to it.
Enjoy Silver Surfers.
