I live in North Yorkshire and I am happily retired after working nearly 40 years for the NHS – initially in A&E reception and then as a Practice Manager for a surgery in Leeds. I am an active member of my local U3A – and a member of various groups including a Book Group, Singing for Fun, Gardening and Science & Technology to name just a few. I love photography – mainly landscapes, seascapes, architecture, especially churches and cathedrals, and plants. My cameras tend to stay on fully automatic because my mind goes blank when the experts start talking about depth of field, white noise - what is that all about for heaven's sake, and other technicalities! I am also interested in genealogy and have compiled many family trees for relatives and those for the men commemorated on the local war memorial – that was an interesting project for 2014 and updated in 2018; not sure that I shall be around for 2045 to update the WW2 details! -

Renewal of Blue BadgeIt sounds a bit odd that your GP will give you documentation (for £35!) and wants you to tell him/her what to say. When I worked in a surgery all the doctors examined the patients requesting a Blue Badge and then provided the documentation for a small fee. Valentines cardI love donkeys as well, Sally, and some of the rescue stories on The Donkey Sanctuary's website are heart-breaking when you read about the neglect and ill treatment they have received. I cannot understand people who ill-treat any animal.ViewDate:

Loan from daughterHi Brinny, First of all, I am not a legal expert so my comments are purely from a common sense point of view. I'm assuming that you are a widow and that your daughter is your only child. If this is correct then I would write down that she has loaned you £20,000 for your life-time and that this will be repaid to her, from your estate, when you die, before any other legacies are paid out. I think that you should both sign and date this document in front of an independent witness and both of you keep a copy. If your daughter is not an only child, then her siblings should be aware of your arrangement so that they understand that this daughter has a prior claim on the first £20,000 of your estate. Does your daughter have children and are are they legatees in your will? If your daughter died before you, then they should be aware of this arrangement. Also, if your daughter's financial situation changed and she needed an immediate repayment, how would this work out for you? Hopefully, other members of SS will add to your post and you will be able to make a decision re the benefits and the pitfalls of this generous offer from your daughter. CaroleViewDate:
