The Internet
Watch this postIt seems incredible now but I can remember a friend of mine explaining the internet as "some American invention for their military" back in about 1996 and I really did not have a clue what he was talking about! Fastfoward about two years to the late 90s and everyone was talking about the www and I can remember our connection on our home computer that was hissing and spluttering as it connected up to the web. Incredible times and it seems amazing that only about 17 years later we have such amazing websites and its on our phones etc

or bus pass yet so the internet has opened up my life tremendously
but using skype is fantastic too, as my family and I regularly skype our friend out in new Zealand , where my wife can show her anything she has made, or bought in the shops ,and they can talk as long as they want for free,
so being able to see, and speak to some one, twelve thousand miles away
is fantastic, so yes I too value and appreciate the internet very much so,.
yes its a far cry from 50 years ago when if we wanted to phone some one you had to know where the telephone boxes were
and hoped that they were working,
my mother never had a phone so when I did eventually get one which was a party line having a chat was not only expensive but awkward as then you never knew if some one was listening in on your conversation,.
today mobiles are a blessing for all sorts of reasons,

Having Wikiworld at my fingertips is heaven for an info-magpie like me.
It's the printing revolution all over again.
But, it's as negative as it's positive. We will struggle to control the darker aspects but it was ever thus. We must also beware of control by the powerful in terms of access and information "permitted". The possibility of two-tier net is a concern as is the dark net.
But, overall the internet is amazing.
