Doggyvonne's bio
I am always making something out of nothing. Last week i made a beachhut doorstop/bookend from a house brick and an old striped shirt. Most days I walk or bike a mile or so to our beach and shop daily for fresh food at nearby Lidl and Waitrose plus COOP, Tesco and Spar - always scouting for bargains. I paint, draw or photograph all of my profile pictures myself and when inspired I write a poem about my environment. I go for long walks almost daily to the beach . My husband likes making mini robots and electronic devices and would like to hear from anyone in Exeter with same interests. We are really enjoying his first year of retirement in Sidmouth and never been so happy in our lives. -

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? The idea of caring for your own parents is fine but some people dont have adult children who are in a position to do this? Consider, disability, incapacity, location and aptitude as well as when your parents first had kids - you may be too old to care for others yourself! I dont think many 75 year olds can care well for a 95 year old parent especially if there are also spouses still alive! Whilst i could believably care for my mother right now at 60 if she lived with us I cannot travel 5 hours on buses and trains to do it and she is unwilling to move! What if you have 2 or more parents and inlaws with longevity???? My sister is only 45 but she has a family, mortgage and has to work. Think again Theresa! People all ready paid taxes to pay for their end of life care.ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? The idea of this dispassionate and greedy state leadership being responsible for elderly care provision when they stand to inherit a massive portion of their life savings and property is completely unethical. Think about it...want more money -let more homeowners die sooner???? This could also be leading to the nurse (state) saying we cannot provide the standards of care you all need with the present NHS and only private medical care can manage it all. The younger people of the country will then be saddled with paying for private health care. The Tories are looking for a reason to dismantle the welfare state and NHS. They have contrived a failing care system so people demand better then they will do what they want in first place and privatise it all. The elderly with capital and property and their loved ones will demand higher standards if the estate is to pay for end of life care and the 'nurse' will then reply she cant afford that so we all all people under retirement age need to pay for private health insurance. Not everybody has Mary Poppins for a daughter either!ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners?there should be more positive measures like incentives for generations to live together -suggest grants to add annexes or attic rooms to make a house big enough for granny to move in and then both generations paying a sum back over time instead of paying exorbitant fees to a care home!ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners?I spoke to a long term Tory voter age 89 today who feels the same as i do. Both she and I dont have a passport or a driving license and according to another headline today we may not be able to vote in future without them? As so many older folks dont drive or go abroad it means millions could be denied a vote unless they shell out for a passport.ViewDate:

Has Theresa May got the right financial balance for pensioners? My husband and I have earned, saved and planned wisely to retire in Sidmouth having accounted for various needs in our family. We downsized from a detached home in Cambridgeshire plus used some small shared inheritance to purchase a 1 bedroom flat in Essex for my bachelor son then 35 who wasnt a high flyer and needed support. The seedy rented room he had in a shared house was not suitable to accomodte his small son on custody weekends. I was sleeping easy thinking my husband and i would be comfortable but not well off in retirement both even though I have been a housewife working very part time for just a few years. We are just managing at present on Paul’s private pension as we both are still under 65 without state pensions. Not getting my pension and bus pass was a blow but we calculated we could manage if we are careful. Now i am unable to sleep after the announcement concerning elderly care and paying with proceeds of ones home or homes? My first question is has the government considered what happens to anyone else left living in the house after death and care expenses? Whether it be a partner, spouse, son, daughter, sister, brother unemployed, disabled, mental health patient etc what rights would they have to retain the house ? The second question is relates to our own second property housing my son now over 40 and still single and struggling on minimum wages and paying us a below market rent for maintenance and bills to be paid . If this is taken in process of paying care fees for us later he will be homeless again . We have only just managed to stabilise his life and get him some security? Not only that we may one day consider taking in my own mother now 83 and the same situation could apply to her if we both died before her. My brother has all ready died. My third question is about the £100000 cap - is this after the pension pot is spent too ? I have no pension of my own above a reduced state pension so if my husband needs for instance dementia 24 hour care for many years will the pension he planned for us/me still be set aside untouched? I am very worried.ViewDate:

Dangerous Dog related safety for the public and environmentWe live in relatively sedate Sidmouth with beautiful manicured and natural dog walking areas. The main problem is people who dont watch their dogs (and kids) and who are often switched off, lacking in awareness or on their mobile phones. All ages are guilty of this it isnt just young mums. My small dog is nervous and generally on a lead and if larger or exciteable dogs approach him I have to shout or wave to wake the other owner up ..they often say 'Oh my dog's OK ' or ' she'll follow me' but yes if that chilled out dog or bouncy child comes near my dog wont like it and can they gt to their loose anumal before there is a fracas? I dont want to have to carry my dog a mile to the vets or pay the vets bill if there are injuries! Older folks in the parks have said they have been knocked over by large dogs. Owners should stay close and vigilant with their pets at all times. It isnt about the breed of dog it is about the maturity of the owner.ViewDate:

The InternetI spoke to a couple older than us yesterday in park both ex graduates in science and the chap was very enthusiastic about internet but the woman snapped 'Oh no I dont like it I think it is wrong!'. The internet and FB are only as wrong or right as you make it...my mother unfortunately has the same closed mind and yet I know it would save her from a lot of loneliness and depression in winter..she doesnt want to know..it's her loss.ViewDate:

Should terminally ill patients have the right to die?The amount of people here voting yet implies they have great faith in the British authorities to make sure that pressure is not placed upon patients to end their lives. I hope that faith is justified. Yes I would want the choice myself but not sure i would choose an early death..ask me later.ViewDate:

Should there be a legal age limit for leaving a child home alone?it isnt just about how responsible they are for their age it is about how stressed they might feel inside being left in charge of the house and themselves for long periodsViewDate:

Should Britain agree to take more refugees? This poll seems to be a good marker for the feelings of the entire UK on this matter. Thing is we all ready have homeless, displaced people and they are not moving in with Bob Geldof or some social minded big wig.. I know an unemployed man of 55 been living in seedy hotel rooms for many many years and the number is rising with divorced men left without funds to buy or rent a house. If we were sorted here and nobody in huge need i would feel more generous towards refugees but let's be honest we have too little housing for the people all ready here.ViewDate:
