Daily diaries of those who are self-isolating due to Coronavirus

A place where, if you are self-isolating due to worries about Coronavirus, or if indeed you have contracted the virus, you can stay in touch with our community, to tell us how you are coping, share your experience and perhaps lessen your feeling of isolation

We live in a small village in the Midlands, no bus services, and no complaints this is where we chose to live. Sat in the lounge watching a wren and Robin building their nests, life does go on.

Hi Everyone did pop out this morning for some loo roll shops are letting people stock up went into 3 different shops not a single roll in sight what's wrong with these selfish people .I was told in one shop "we are open at 8.am in the morning if you'd like to come then" Oh well what can we say greedy shop owners for letting them do it !!Rant over enjoy the rest of your day folks xx
Response from Kes made on 17th Mar 2020 12:37:34
I just don’t get the thing about toilet rolls. Panic buying helps no one. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if crowds of shoppers are already waiting for stores to open in the mornings. I also wonder, if a lot more people are laid off work and the schools are closed meaning parents are also at home, will that mean there will be more and more people cramming into the stores to deplete shelves. Madness breeds madness. Hope you will be ok Goldie22. Take care.

Well it looks as if we are being locked down......... For at least 12 weeks? Funny really was out this morning....... Picked up a few bits and pieces. I tend to use a small independent shop for quite a lot of things.... My daughter usually takes me to the supermarket now and then or gets things for me. I live in a 3 generation family. There's me, daughter and son in law and two grandsons 7 and 11. We bought this rambling old house together a few years ago when I became unwell and they decided that I shouldn't live alone. My daughter works from home so has her office here...... I only see her during the day if we meet in the kitchen both making a drink at the same time. She is there if I need help... Which I usually don't. I do spend a lot of time with the boys.... Or them with me. I guess if I stay within the confines of the grounds I shall be ok. Plans are afoot in case anyone gets symptoms. At least the house is big enough that I can be shut away if nescessary. They can self isolate together...... Whilst shielding me. What fun lies ahead..............

Seems you and your family are well set up to deal with things, which is great. We all just have to trust in our fellow humans now to do the right things. Take care ElisabethR.

Hi, anyone out there in a similar position? Had a knee replacement just over two weeks ago, seem to be recovering quicker than I did from my left knee last June. My quandary is, what do I do about hospital reviews and physi0.?

I am 80 years old, happy with the progress I'm making and have been staying in my own home hoping to stay safe. Look forward to a response
Response from Wilf made on 16th Mar 2020 17:51:54
Glad you are feeling better MaddieW and that you are out of hospital. We worry that they are soon going to be full up. My father who is 91 was ill a year ago and he was in a corridor for ages but I must say the care he received from our NHS doctors and nurses was just incredible-They are all angels!
Response from ElisabethR made on 16th Mar 2020 20:37:30
Just get in touch with the hospital...... They will arrange things for you. Physio etc. If you are doing your exercises all should be well. I have had one done the other is not happy supposed to see the musculoskeletal team on Wednesday............ Someone somewhere is having a laugh. Having to lock down as well. At least I wouldn't have been able to do Glastonbury this year..... Even if it was still on. You have to laugh.

I’ve had both knee joints replaced, one is nearly five years old and the other is nearly two. Best thing ever. Glad to hear your recovery is going well. I’m sure if you contact your hospital they will be able to advise you on what to do and out your mind at rest. Post surgery follow ups would proceed I’m sure. Take care.

I expect this will give some of us something to do when we are extremely bored and help us to know what to expect although many of us have been through hard times before. I do wonder if those being asked to take 2 months unpaid leave will also be informed that they are not required to pay their mortgage for the same length of times. We’ve been shopping today as it has been a couple of weeks since we did a proper shop but many of the shelves were bare due to people going mad on certain items. No mention has been made of anybody needing extra but imagination runs riot.

Let’s see who can keep us amused or at least informed and interested.

We have decided to "self-isolate" for the next few weeks. We go out to the local pubs at least once a week but we have noticed a real change in the number of locals who are thinning out and last night there were only about 6 people in there for lunch and all the talk was about this virus. What a pain-literally.

I’m sure this will be really useful for our community Sally. Thank you for setting it up. Things are going to keep changing day to day for all of us. Food and other household provisions are already a huge concern for many older people. Sadly, the shopping actions of the many, not the few, in the last few days, has added to the scary times we now face. Social distancing is now to be the norm for the foreseeable, so social media, in its many forms, will become vital for many. Take care everyone.
