Margaret Hart's bio
I am very limited in my mobility but I am a keen crafter who makes jewellery, cards and pictures and both knits and sews. I now watch some sport in particular tennis and most winter sports and Formula 1. I am an avid reader and am part of a book club who meet once a month all. Having read a book which we discuss. My life used to be full of activity but I’m afraid that isn’t possible now. I have 2 young Jack Russells who are the love of my life and I am married with one son who has an excellent job and keeps in very close contact. For holidays we now prefer cruises where we can see many places with a lot of travelling. When I worked I was a qualified accountant but I hated that and I at first managed a Travel Bureau and we had our own model shop (trains and boats and planes) which we eventually sold due to my health. The one thing I did enjoy 8n accounting was doing Business Plans Which was very varied and interesting. -

Win ONE of THREE £50 Vouchers to spend with Ivel Valley Bird Food!I love watching the birds in the garden and my youngest dog is determined to learn how to fly so he can follow them into the trees but all the effort he puts into trying is wasted as he’s the wrong shape and weight but it’s very amusing to watch. We feed them well and are rewarded by them paying regular visits. One year we had a few famines of Woodpeckers and boy were they noisy but really beautiful and we could watch the parents feeding the young.ViewDate:

Do you feel that freedom of speech is becoming restricted in the UK?I don’t think we have any freedom of speech in England? Every time we get any group complaining about anything or working towards what the majority of the people don’t want after a very footy time it is the majority who are told not to speak out. against what they want. I didn’t used to be prejudiced against any organisation other than things like the Klu Klux Klan Or terrorist organisation but since all the trouble over that black criminal being killed by a policeman although what he did was wrong they should not of made a martyr of - Stephen Lawrence would have been a far better choice and instead of Black Lives matter they should have had all lives matter. When the Gays wanted to be made legal as soon as they got that it went on and on until they could eventually get married and have children even though it changes the natural world altogether and one care what affect it might have on the rest of the world and or their children. Other people are bound to get annoyed that the ordinary way of life was being turned upstaged down. Everybody has a right to their own opinion not to the change the world as we’ve always known it. world beyond recognition,ViewDate:

Are you deterred from going on a cruise or happy to keep sailing? We have done nothing but cruise in the last few years but ,this pandemic has put me off travelling of any kind other than our own car. Once this pandemic has past and they have discovered a vaccine for it I may change my opinion but I think we have a long wait. Wherever we have seen slackening of rules there’s always some people who have to spoil it by going wild or acting stupid. Tomorrow night I think will be a real eye opener for us all. Everything which can be done to keep things in order has been done but now all age groups have to act responsibly and not get drunk and spoil things. Many people will manage that really well but there are always the few who spoil things for everybody else. I think it will be days out for us this year and perhaps sometime at our sons in York.ViewDate:

Will you be visiting your local pub this weekend?I am still in lock down but in any case nothing would get me to a pub when they have been shut for 3 months. Just a tiny bit of thought would have made it 6th July a Monday night when many have work the following day not Saturday which is one of the craziest nights of the week anyway. I fear this country will pay a high price for this. People. Ware going to have to wait to be served and have patience while doing so. I also think that spare time will give the drug sellers time to do there business. I hope. I’m wrong but I think a lot of people and ptremises will be badly damaged this weekend. Everything has moved to fast.ViewDate:

Would you eat lab-grown meat?Definitely not and I am also against any GM foods. The more our food is messed about with the less good for us it will be. Years ago when we ate good fresh food he healthier we were and much of it we grew ourselves. We didn t have takeaways every half a dozen shops and the thought of ringing up for someone to bring one would never have entered our heads. Other countries like the USA and us are not as healthy since we changed to the more rubbishy diets we eat now and we are generally too heavy or even obese and many more people suffer from diabetes. I would rather become a vegetarian than eat lab grown food.ViewDate:

Keeping older voices healthy through songI haven’t actually heard that comment generally but ve been aware for a long time of the value of singing of old songs with those who have Alzheimer’s or other form of dementia as it takes them back quite naturally to words they knew really well and have a good chance of being stuck in their brains. The same goes for reading books to them which they used to read think singing is the one thing to be OST useful of any.ViewDate:

Are we on a countdown to chaos?I couldn’t believe what I saw on the television last night, how can people be so senseless. I am still on full lockdown. So I’m well away of how tedious it is + boring. And lonely but if we want rid of this COVID 19 we have to do what is required which is definitely social distancing and even that is being changed to one metre in 8 days time to enable more businesses to open particularly the social scene. I know it was hot yesterday but it was hot on the beach as well although we couldn’t see the beach for the people. Then there was the Liverpool supporters who were told to stay at home and watch it on the television set but once they were winning that instruction was ignored and many ended up outside the stadium but they didn’t make a lot of trouble like there had been in Bournemouth And Sandbanks together with cars everywhere including illegal parking. I doubt if any of them will be back to clean the beach today as it’s too much to ask that visitors should take their rubbish home. Some people even bury dirty nappies in the sand. - how disgusting have they been dragged up. Nearly 45 thousand people have died in the U.K. but it seems people have very short memories or they just don’t care. Apart from the loss of life the economic cost to this country has yet to be realised but it will certainly be equal to the full years expenditure for the U.K. so Government will have to borrow an enormous amount f money and if we get another spike I don’t know what will happen as the country will most definitely be bankrupt.. I’m bothered for my son and Granddaughter as I am 73 so it’s not really going to have much to worry about for my myself but young people will be paying for this for the rest of their lives. However we don’t want another spike we want this one shut down and enough time left for a vaccine to be found to save literally the world!ViewDate:

Are you hoping to go on holiday this summer or are you feeling hesitant?I would have liked to go on holiday this year as it is 3 years since we went away for our Golden wedding anniversary and at our age you should get away when you can but nothing will get me on a plane or a ship until they find a vaccine for the Covid 19 virus.. However finding somewhere nice to stay here can be a lot more expensive than going abroad and there is all the travelling. On top of that we have 2 Jack Russell and to put them in a good.kennel is the same as taking a third person on holiday.. therefore i think it will be just days away again this year.ViewDate:

Most of our people have behaved as has been asked but there are always the minority who think they can do as they like and make it worse for everybody. At the moment too many people are ignoring the social distancing which could cause the whole horror to flare up again. I haven’t been out since March as I have other issues and I would. Perhaps it would be better to stop them being used in many places so sensible people can still use them.ViewDate:

Should Dominic Cummings resign?I was annoyed with him until I saw him give his own account which possibly should have come first so that the lies would have been wiped out before they took hold. The press who are causing the anger no they are supposed to be 2 metres a way from anybody but they swarm round people like wasps and just as vicious and the all could catch the virus in one long interview but obviously they don’t care that they really are breaking the law and could take it home to their families. He put his sons welfare first but the bemoaners have taken the chance to try their best to get revenge for him being involved with the Brexit vote. They got their vote in parliament when will they accept the result and get on with living with everybody else.ViewDate:

Which do you miss not being open the most - your local pub or your hair salon? If I could afford it I would go to the hairdressers twice a week but as it is I can only go once as I’m retired on a small pension. I can’t set my own hair as I used to as I fell and broke my arm a few years ago and it didn’t set well so I can’t get one arm up my back. Also since my late 40s I’ve had my hair coloured (just my own colour) so now I have too long hair with obvious grey roots and my hair is dark brown. Drink has never bothered me as I don’t need it to enjoy myself. Anyone who does drink has been able to buy it all the time so really missing the pub is just like me missing seeing family and friends it doesn’t compare with the hairdressers which keeps one looking smart and feeling betterViewDate:

Should Dominic Cummings resign? He is a very bad example for everybody particularly teenagers and other young adults. He helped make the rules yet thought it okay to break them. Everybody is getting sick now and some are lonely and depressed so if they try to make more rules people are going to think what’s the point and go their own way. You only need to look face book and see what some stupid people are saying to see that they will go their own way People should always lead by example. Dominic Cummings is an extremely arrogant man who thinks he can do as he likes and it’s time the realised that’s the rules and laws of our country apply to him as well. He also looks scruffy and untidy as though he has no self respect and certainly doesn’t earn any.ViewDate:

Is it sensible to allow specified year groups back to school?I think the decisions they have to make at the moment are very difficult and they have to start somewhere but Whether starting with the youngest ones is correct I have my doubts as they will find it tiring after being at home all the time and possibly having more rests and being the least able to understand the idea of not being able to touch each other. The ones who go up to seniors next year and the ones who take there first set of O levels or whatever they are called now seems a better idea. I would have said first year A level students but as they won’t have got their results by then. Whenever the schools go back the children are going to have to be much better behaved or the keeping apart will be impossible and the loss of teachers will become endemic.ViewDate:

Would you feel confident taking a holiday flight from 1st July?I don’t know whether I’ll ever feel safe flying again - nearly every time we fly on the way home we always say the same we end up with at least a cold and we blaming air conditioning or pressurised air going round the cabin. It only takes one person with a set of germs to infect a whole plane load of passengers as everybody is breathing the same air. I am nearly 73 and have travelled quite a lot so i will be happy to holiday in England in future although the I will miss the sun. ,I have serious chest and kidney problems so it is not worth risking the risks. Dating during lockdownI’ve been married nearly 52 years d that really takes some doing. If someone tells you that they’ve never had a wrong word then they’ve never lived. There may such a thing as a perfect marriage but if there is I’ve never seen one. There always has to be give and take not one person ruling the roost or getting all their own way. When you get married you aren’t worth strangers moving into one dwelling and you have to learn to live with another person and each other’s faults. It’s not easy but if you are both want if you work it can be great fun. All through any marriage there can be problems but you must work them out together.ViewDate:

Should WW2 veteran NHS fundraiser Tom Moore be knighted? It would be great for someone who has really done something worthwhile for other people rather than just a famous name or blessed with a natural ability. He is a lovely old man who is doing something to the best of his ability for our National Health System I wish I had the ability to do the same. If they had made patterns available for all sewers to make scrubs or anything else that was wanted I could have helped as could thousands of others but nobody thought in such a small way for all it would have turned into a very large contribution. Should the Government launch a food-rationing scheme? Our bin men said that last week they had more wasted food than they had ever had before while many people have nothing as they had no money to stock up for themselves or their children. Why are people so silly and greedy. I’m in the very high risk group so not allowed to go out and so is my husband so we have to rely on the kindness of people to do it for us and we are lucky. However since the virus started I have started to need incontinence pads and have spent from 8 this morning until now to try to place an order with Boots but I did not know my password so that added the second 5 hours aNd then it said I had run out of time for a change in password. I have had to email Boots as the size I need are like hens teeth to find. Declutter your home for springIt would take me from one Spring to the next to declutter our house. We both have hobbies but on top of that my husband is an inveterate hoarder and I don’t know where to start to get rid of everything. The easiest way would be to have a skip in the front garden and just throw everything in it but when you look and see that many of the things are pre First World War how can you just throw them out. I’ve sorted my wardrobe any times but my husband thinks theyll come back in to fashion - if only he could still get into them. How to stay in contact with friends and relativesI am feeling quite depressed about it all now as the thought of not going out for 4 months is quite grim. We don’t go out a lot but we have a few monthly meetings like car club and book club + coffee with friends. My husband has had 3 heart attacks - 2 at the end of 2019 and I have Asthma, COPD and very underactive kidneys and thyroid glands. Also in general winter to me means chronic bronchitis so we both have to be very careful not to catch this virus. The greed of people stockpiling everything has shocked me as if they had carried on as normal none of us would be short now but it’s a case of some having everything and others very little and we’re in the latter bracket as when we went shopping the shelves were bare. Please everyone think of the old and frail when your stocking up again.ViewDate:

Over-70s will be asked to self-isolate for up to four monthsTh3 people who have stockpiled to such a ridiculous extent are he ones who are shouting the loudest that they are going to carryon as they want. That was not the way in the war everybody cared and helped wherever they could. Us elderly people really must have that attitude again as we are most at risk together with the people who are already ill and must take even more care. Most of us could not do the early shopping and many have no hand sanitiser and could be very low one loo rolls and other necessities including food. There are quite a few groups of kind and helpfUl people who are getting together and organising shopping and visiting rotes to try to help the at risk groups and they will be thanked forever. You only have to read the comments on Facebook to see how uncaring some people are but also look for the many kind hearted people.ViewDate:

My husband and I want to go but as we are the 2 in the at risk group he won’t say come as he feels we have to decide. I do wonder if those being asked to take 2 months unpaid leave will also be informed that they are not required to pay their mortgage for the same length of times. We’ve been shopping today as it has been a couple of weeks since we did a proper shop but many of the shelves were bare due to people going mad on certain items. No mention has been made of anybody needing extra but imagination runs riot. Let’s see who can keep us amused or at least informed and interested.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? If you have visited anybody over 70 in hospital in the last few years you will know that we are most definitely a nuisance and must be sent out of hospital as quickly as possible whether or not we have care. we get blamed for everything which is wrong with this country and the young people say we have made all the problems when in actual fact some may to blame for discovering them but our lives began during or just after the war when nothing was easy and we made our own fun without bothering anybody and helping each other. we’ve worked very hard and if we’ve saved now appear comfortable but as we have to replace anything our money cannot be replaced. i most certainly will not be staying i for four months but hopefully we will get some good weather which we can spend in our gardens. -
