Winter fuel allowance

My friend retired to southern Spain and lives in a nice villa with a large swimming pool, he was upset to hear the winter fuel allowance was being withdrawn he said it paid for the yearly service on he's swimming pool. He told me last night that although pensioners living in the UK will no longer receive the allowance he will still get it every year, so he's pool will stay nice and clean and sent me this link. British pensioners living in the EU will keep their winter fuel allowance thanks to a Brexit catch | This is Money He also had a theory that this is a win win for the government, inevitably more pensioners will die of cold related illnesses because they can no longer afford heating, so not only do the government save on the fuel allowance they also don't have to pay the pensions to those that don't survive the winter.

Cunning plan Mr. Starmer but freezing pensioners to death is a Tory strategy.

The winter fuel allowance was announced by Gorden Brown (Labour party) in 1997 after many years of Tory government cut backs.
The aim being to stop pensioners freezing in the winter months.

Odd comment that freezing pensioners to death is a Tory srategy when it is a Labour government that has withdrawn the payment!
