I enjoy cooking & recently created a vegetable garden or 2 plots also a compost heap.
Looking forward to any replies.

I never went to university but I'm hoping to take a gap year, mainly away from the UK in 2022, Covid-19 restrictions permitting. Thanks to Brexit, strolling around the Schengen countries of the EU non-stop is no longer an option as the 90 day tourist rule applies accumulatively to those countries. My thinking is to do up to 90 days in Schengen countries, skip back to UK for a week or so and then 90 days non-Schengen countries, back to UK and repeat. Initially my thoughts were to do this alone, but if the opportunity arose to travel with a companion then I think that would be better. After all, with seven years of living on my own under my belt the conversations at home can get boring.

Do you mean February 2021? Are you sure we can travel any fear of COVID 19. ?
Charles
As for costs. I only reserve apartments with free cancellation and no credit card needed. So reseve now and only pay 1 week before arrival. So if no flights no cost lost.

Philippines still have curfue 10pm lockdown same for Thailand. Most airlines offer
2 year free ticket exchange. But won't book flight till say January as not sure when I will go February or March. I have a mate who lives in Philippines and done friends in Cambodia an Pattaya

I’ve not been on this site for a long time, but feel now we hopefully have a light at the end of the tunnel to be able to meet people and to travel again, I would see if there’s anyone like minded to me, that would like to chat, meet up and possibly travel as companions once we can again.
Abroad or this country is appealing to me, I think there are some lovely beauty places within our own country.
Anyway if you feel you’d like to reply, it would be nice to hear from you.

I have been fascinated by Chile for a while and making plans to visit towards the end of 2022. By chance, as I took a short rest after getting my 2nd covid vaccination, I listened to radio 4's From our own correspondent, reporting on the Chilean vaccination programme, which is well advanced. I see that as a plus.
So here's a tongue in cheek enquiry as to whether there is an intrepid adventurer who could accompany me on such a trip, or perhaps tolerate me, ha ha.
I fancy going to Chile, some fab wines and the dryest desert on the planet (I think) or is that the Namib?? Not sure.
I think I am the same age as you with not too many aches and pains so pretty sure I would be able to hack it!!
I am intrigued!!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the Atacama desert, the only moisture there is from sea fog, I believe. I hope to visit for 4-5 weeks round about October time next year, just coming into southern spring.
The plan is to start off in Santiago, staying for a couple of days, then onto the Atacama before travelling south to visit the lake district, wine country, and finish off in the south, Torres del Paine.
Early days yet but planning to arrange accomodation along the way.
Sound interesting?
Regards, Adrian, or Adie.
It does sound interesting indeed! The only problem possibly on my side would be that I don't drive if driving is involved on this trip.
Public transport is no problem, I have used trains, buses and various forms of what in some cases could be laughingly described as "taxis", around a good few parts of the world and had a lot of fun with it too sometimes!!
So, other than the driving (I am a good navigator though!!) I am all ears!!
Regards
Babs
I'm planning to use public transport to get around, though car hire could come into it, I've driven across Europe and around Australia but I do find driving long distances very tiring.
I think the most practical way to get to Atacama is to fly from Santiago, there are no trains north of the city and it's a very long way. Probably good to meander south from say, Arica on buses or driving, I don't think roads outside built up areas are all that busy, have to look into that.
I'll probably invest in the Lonely planet or Rough guide book to check things out.
Regards
Adie
I am definitely still interested in doing a trip like this. It's a long time since I went slightly off the beaten track travel-wise (South Africa 2009). Only Europe and Cape Verde (Jan 2020) since then.
I am not a big user of this site and sometimes it has been months without a visit.
If you are interested, I would definitely like to know how your plans are going forward. It may be better to keep in touch via email or phone (WhatsApp). Let me know, I will give you my number/email or you let me have yours.
Babs
I'm on WhatsApp, my number : 07512145683 / e mail: [email protected]
I'm planning a little every few days and keeping up with the covid situation with regard to travelling & possibly go on a couple of short breaks in Europe, I have arranged a couple in UK for later this year.
Regards
Adie.
My name is Susan, I live in South Africa, but have done a lot of traveling around the world. If you are looking for a travel companion to take you around, I am certainly the one you are looking for. I am 60 years old, healthy, but living in South Africa, our rand doesn't go very far. I am willing to show you around here and maybe the rest of Africa as well.

I read your post a few days back and found it very interesting. I travelled to South Africa back in 2009 and stayed in a place called Marloth Park on the south east edge of the Kruger National Park. I got to see a lot of the Kruger, the area around Blyde Canyon (gorgeous), a little bit of Swaziland and also I got on a trip from Marloth Park to Maputo, Mozambique which was an experience and very enjoyable too!!
The person whom I stayed with is very much an animal lover and a good photographer too and not very interested in seeing more of South Africa so Marloth Park is where she wants to stay and enjoy herself.
I myself would love to see a lot more of this country and your post on this website intrigued me. If you want to know any more about me, I would love to hear from you.

I will surely show you around South Africa and other countries as well. We have a wonderful, beautiful country and there is so much to see. Whenever you decide to come this way, you welcome to contact me. I love travel.
Have a great day
Susan
Thanks for your reply, I would definitely love to see some more of South Africa and also maybe Namibia - that country also fascinates me.
It all depends on when Covid restrictions allow. I have been fully vaccinated - two Astra Zenica jabs. The UK are doing very very well with our vaccination roll out but it all depends on how the rest of the world is coping as well! How are things going in South Africa? Are you in any sort of lockdown? I am really interested to know how you are coping/dealing with it all.

Babs
