I love to travel and embrace other cultures. Probably not the best time at the moment due to the ever-changing traffic light scenarios but once it gets a bit more stable, I'll be straining at the leash. Anyway, once it happens, it would be nice to have a travel buddy.

Hi Zaktab

Similar mindset to mine I think. Can I ask where you are based? I live in Manchester, UK.

I'm looking for a travel companion. I'm married, but my wife is a good bit younger, still working full time, and not able to join me. She has no problem whatsoever with me traveling without her, given the circumstances. I'm 72, going on 73, live in NC, and am a retired professional. I'm very fit (run 5-1/2 miles every other day) and love exploring new places. I enjoy hiking, wouldn't be opposed to camping, or other similar activities. On my future bucket list is a well priced transatlantic cruise from Southhampton, UK to NJ in October 2022. I also would like to get back over to Amsterdam and spend perhaps a month or so in a rented apartment. I've utilized La Compaigne as my airline, which flies out of Newark, and offers business class only seats to Paris (Orly). I've been to 27 countries thus far, so I am a fairly well traveled individual. Incidentally, I'm politically more progressive, so I'd like someone who is compatible in that respect.

Hello everyone, I've just joined and this is by way of an introduction and maybe discussion kick-off. I'm 69 next year and I'm about to retire from full time work later this year. I like food - cooking and eating - and drink. Gentle exercise is fine although a long walk needs to have some refreshment stops en route. I enjoy a good book and thanks to kindle have read a lot without the weight of the books to worry about. I'm an armchair sports fan - aren't most of us at the moment - but soccer and F1 are my favourites. I've recently taken up photography as a hobby in an effort to force myself to get more and walk off some weight.
I never went to university but I'm hoping to take a gap year, mainly away from the UK in 2022, Covid-19 restrictions permitting. Thanks to Brexit, strolling around the Schengen countries of the EU non-stop is no longer an option as the 90 day tourist rule applies accumulatively to those countries. My thinking is to do up to 90 days in Schengen countries, skip back to UK for a week or so and then 90 days non-Schengen countries, back to UK and repeat. Initially my thoughts were to do this alone, but if the opportunity arose to travel with a companion then I think that would be better. After all, with seven years of living on my own under my belt the conversations at home can get boring.

Do you mean February 2021? Are you sure we can travel any fear of COVID 19. ?
Charles
Response from DavidV3 made on 22nd Jun 2020 12:09:32 > @Charlesb
2021 should be ok. Same as most countries avoid large crowds and large apartments.
As for costs. I only reserve apartments with free cancellation and no credit card needed. So reseve now and only pay 1 week before arrival. So if no flights no cost lost.

Flights. Won't book till international flights back on. Looks like end of August.
Philippines still have curfue 10pm lockdown same for Thailand. Most airlines offer
2 year free ticket exchange. But won't book flight till say January as not sure when I will go February or March. I have a mate who lives in Philippines and done friends in Cambodia an Pattaya
Response from DavidV3 made on 18th Aug 2020 11:51:13 > @Charlesb
Looks like Thailand could reopen in September. But I have booked my flight with Qatar from Manchester this time as cheaper by a £100 and does not have a long stop over in Dubai. Qatar offer a 2 year extension on tickets free of costs if virus stops flights. Rooms booked with free cancellation with no credit card used.

Prices will rockit for next year as airline need to coop losses

Hello, I’m Donna, a retired teacher from Canada, 60 years young and love riding horses and hiking. I’ve travelled in South and Central America, Spain, Portugal, Mexico. I’d love to explore more of eastern Europe and Asia. I travel on a budget and enjoy monthly rentals, which gives me the chance to really get to know a place. Interested in finding a buddy to explore with. There’s safety in numbers!

I’ve not been on this site for a long time, but feel now we hopefully have a light at the end of the tunnel to be able to meet people and to travel again, I would see if there’s anyone like minded to me, that would like to chat, meet up and possibly travel as companions once we can again.
Abroad or this country is appealing to me, I think there are some lovely beauty places within our own country.
Anyway if you feel you’d like to reply, it would be nice to hear from you.

Hi Paula. Like you I am new to this site. I am a male from New Zealand My intention before this Covid thing raised its head. I was about to book a cruise starting from Florida or similar to the Bahamas and the Panama Canal and would like to meet an other person with a similar interest. I see from above you are from North Carolina so this may be of interest to you as it's not far from where you live. I have travelled much of the Pacific, Australia and parts of Asia. Eighteen months ago went to San Francisco and Reno in Nevada then Covid happened. I don't intend travelling while the threat of spending time in isolation is with us, so I am using this time to find a like minded potential travel companion.

During my working years as a trainee pensioner, who has now reached that wonderful stage in life, I spent a lot of time working long hours to finance my travels to such far flung countries as Iceland and Australia ( 5 visits,) Costa Rica to Vietnam and other places in between, always travelling solo except on 1 or 2 occasions. Although I have at times struggled with osteoarthritis for over 30 years and more recently rheumatoid ( as the osteo needed a companion,) I never let it deter me from getting out and about. I have been shielding during lockdown and in that time my arthritis has eased somewhat, thanks to the wonders of modern medication and the care I have recieved and exercise of course, so hoping to travel again when it's safe to do so.
I have been fascinated by Chile for a while and making plans to visit towards the end of 2022. By chance, as I took a short rest after getting my 2nd covid vaccination, I listened to radio 4's From our own correspondent, reporting on the Chilean vaccination programme, which is well advanced. I see that as a plus.
So here's a tongue in cheek enquiry as to whether there is an intrepid adventurer who could accompany me on such a trip, or perhaps tolerate me, ha ha.
Response from Baileybird11 made on 7th May 2021 15:11:06
Hi Whiteeagle17,

I fancy going to Chile, some fab wines and the dryest desert on the planet (I think) or is that the Namib?? Not sure.

I think I am the same age as you with not too many aches and pains so pretty sure I would be able to hack it!!

I am intrigued!!

Response from Whiteeagle17 made on 7th May 2021 22:57:07 > @Baileybird11
Hi Babs,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the Atacama desert, the only moisture there is from sea fog, I believe. I hope to visit for 4-5 weeks round about October time next year, just coming into southern spring.

The plan is to start off in Santiago, staying for a couple of days, then onto the Atacama before travelling south to visit the lake district, wine country, and finish off in the south, Torres del Paine.

Early days yet but planning to arrange accomodation along the way.

Sound interesting?

Regards, Adrian, or Adie.
Response from Baileybird11 made on 8th May 2021 09:56:20 > @Whiteeagle17
Hi Adie,

It does sound interesting indeed! The only problem possibly on my side would be that I don't drive if driving is involved on this trip.

Public transport is no problem, I have used trains, buses and various forms of what in some cases could be laughingly described as "taxis", around a good few parts of the world and had a lot of fun with it too sometimes!!

So, other than the driving (I am a good navigator though!!) I am all ears!!

Regards

Babs
Response from Whiteeagle17 made on 8th May 2021 21:52:13 > @Baileybird11
Hi Babs,

I'm planning to use public transport to get around, though car hire could come into it, I've driven across Europe and around Australia but I do find driving long distances very tiring.

I think the most practical way to get to Atacama is to fly from Santiago, there are no trains north of the city and it's a very long way. Probably good to meander south from say, Arica on buses or driving, I don't think roads outside built up areas are all that busy, have to look into that.

I'll probably invest in the Lonely planet or Rough guide book to check things out.

Regards

Adie
Response from Baileybird11 made on 9th May 2021 10:51:03 > @Whiteeagle17
Hi Adie,

I am definitely still interested in doing a trip like this. It's a long time since I went slightly off the beaten track travel-wise (South Africa 2009). Only Europe and Cape Verde (Jan 2020) since then.

I am not a big user of this site and sometimes it has been months without a visit.

If you are interested, I would definitely like to know how your plans are going forward. It may be better to keep in touch via email or phone (WhatsApp). Let me know, I will give you my number/email or you let me have yours.

Hi Susan,

I read your post a few days back and found it very interesting. I travelled to South Africa back in 2009 and stayed in a place called Marloth Park on the south east edge of the Kruger National Park. I got to see a lot of the Kruger, the area around Blyde Canyon (gorgeous), a little bit of Swaziland and also I got on a trip from Marloth Park to Maputo, Mozambique which was an experience and very enjoyable too!!

The person whom I stayed with is very much an animal lover and a good photographer too and not very interested in seeing more of South Africa so Marloth Park is where she wants to stay and enjoy herself.

I myself would love to see a lot more of this country and your post on this website intrigued me. If you want to know any more about me, I would love to hear from you.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your reply, I would definitely love to see some more of South Africa and also maybe Namibia - that country also fascinates me.

It all depends on when Covid restrictions allow. I have been fully vaccinated - two Astra Zenica jabs. The UK are doing very very well with our vaccination roll out but it all depends on how the rest of the world is coping as well! How are things going in South Africa? Are you in any sort of lockdown? I am really interested to know how you are coping/dealing with it all.

Regards

Hi, sorry, I don't come on this site very often so missed your message. Where are you from?

Great....worked there for a while back in the late 70's for a firm of consulting engineers, Kennedy & Donkin, King Street, I think it was. Hope weather & life are treating you reasonably well in these difficult times.

I am well thanks. Things here are OK. Weather - mild, crocus everywhere. Had my first jab on 12 Feb, I turned 66 last November but got my invite slightly early probably due to having worked for 8 years in a local GP Practice -admin/IT stuff, I got my invite via text from the local Clinical Commissioning Group. The only bit of Surrey I am familiar with is around Addlestone and Weybridge where an aunt of mine lived - passed away in the late 90's, fabulous lady, I miss her.

Pleased to hear that you've had at least one jab, as have I, at McLaren admin' HQ in central Woking....sadly no drivers or cars in attendance. I'm not too far from Addlestone/Weybridge, but not a Surrey lady....born in Oxford, 'town' not 'gown'. Loads of trees in Surrey, prefer open rolling countryside.....each area has its' plusses.....
