Since my visitors left a few weeks ago, I've not had the 'urge' to get the paints out again - until today, when I spent ages 'resurrecting' my watercolour tubes.
Unlike Ness I have no dedicated place to paint - and have to do it on the dining-room table. Which, of course, means that all has to be packed away on a daily basis, which isn't good!
By the sound of things you have a very busy life and have done a lot of painting too. I see you do not live very far from myself - I'm in Co. Armagh.
I really started experimenting by watching various videos on YouTube and picking up some info from them on different techniques.
Most of these are more easily picked up through watching the videos - rather than by trying to explain them. Search for 'poured acrylics' or 'fluid acrylics' as a start, and the rest will follow.

Hi Anna. Like you I paint on the dining room table, but it all stays out unless I have visitors as I eat in the kitchen. I will look up those things you mention. I have never thought to watch things on UTube. At the moment I am making Christmas cards, not to sell, just for friends and family. I got into Zentangling about a year ago and love that, but haven't had time to do it lately, the garden keeps me pretty busy in the summer months. Its about time I found some new techniques with painting, I tend to get bored with doing the same thing and now winter is coming I will have more time.
I never expected to find someone else in Ireland and Co Armagh isn't that far from Donegal. I am near the border with Strabane. Did you know there is a donkey sanctuary in Raphoe? I started there 4 years ago mucking out, but now we have a couple of men to do it so I man the new visitor centre on Sundays now.

It's strange only the other day, I found a site that tells about watercolour techniques and one of them is salt to use it to make ice crystals effect in the paint.
I am looking forward to chatting with other Art lovers also I am horse lover,
sadly had to rehome my boy due to my illness, but am fundraising for them when health allows.
Back to the art, Hope to learn lots on here and have fun also.
Me again. I have just found your reply to me under Anna's message. I fundraise for our local donkey sanctuary and man the visitor centre there on Sundays in the summer. I started out mucking out there, but now we have a couple of men to do it and I have "promotion"! I paint to sell pictures there and make crocheted donkey key rings, which sell like hot cakes, the children love them. You must miss your horse such a lot.
I haven't been painting recently but will get back to it next week as someone has asked me to paint a picture of a farmhouse. I have made Christmas cards though. I must get round to finding different techniques. There never seems to be enough hours in the day,
Right: Intro (The painting I will start after lunch.) Proper name is Ken and I live in Wisbech, Cambs. I've been painting on and off for many years. Mainly landscapes in water colour. I've also dabbled in pastel, coloured pencils and just ordinary pencils. The cards I am about to start will be in watercolours.
Quite often I seek advice from other, but I have found that formal help has not been the type I like. Nice and easy and not so high faluting! I notice ther doesn't seem to be a place to post our paintings. Maybe have to set up a Facebook page.
Well, I must get lunch or else I'll not get my backside into gear with my cards this afternoon.
I make my own cards too, but I don't paint them. I draw and stick things on, googly eyes, fur, beads etc. I'd like to know more about this stamping that I see on Pinterest, but so far haven't found where to get the stuff from, also don't know how to do it! It makes the cards look professional, but mine are only for friends and family anyway, so they don't have to look professional! Its been 9 days since you wrote so I guess you have some made by now. Haven't been on the site for a while owing to a funeral to attend in Kent. I have to fly there! Yes, its a pity we cant show our work here. I also paint and use mainly watercolours, sometimes pastels or acrylics. I do have watercolour pencils, but don't use them much. I mainly paint pet portraits, but will do anything else if asked. I have a commission to paint a farmhouse next week, so good job I have my cards made as the painting will have to take priority. Am also addicted to painting the house!!! And have done murals on the walls. Good luck with the cards.

I have enjoyed painting and crafting all my life....and last year decided to try and do it as a job.
So far I've organised crafting sessions in my crafty cabin in the back garden.
We've done Mixed Media on Canvas and Paper Bead Jewelry
The next class is Watercolour & Salt...have you tried this?
I love using acrylics with stencils....have also discovered the Gelli Plate for printing....very addictive!
I also work twice a week with adults who have Cerebral Palsy.....quite a challenge finding crafts that they can participate in. It's a very rewarding job.....and we have such a laugh too!
What style of painting to you do?
Would be good if we could show work wouldn't it?

Added to that, have had a guest for the past 2 weeks and 3 more arriving on Monday for another 2 weeks - so I'm afraid no time to paint just now.
BTW, I DON'T run a guest house - these are family members who live overseas.
As to paint, for years I was strictly watercolour, but lately I've discovered a love of experimenting, mainly in acrylics.
I've been doing abstracts for the first time - some of which I love - others not. Yes, I've used salt, along with cling-film, bubble wrap, poured acrylics etc.
But I am so impressed with the things you are doing - your classes sound such fun and I'm sure your pupils love them. And yes, it would be nice to be able to share. I already do on a FB artist's page and it is so nice to see just what others are doing - and to receive the comments of others on your own efforts.

I am new. I was interested in what the main problem is for people doing art with cerebral palsy. would there be a reason for them not being able to paint for instance what is the main problem for them?
Hope you don't mind my asking, only I enjoy finding solutions to practical problems especially where illness is concerned. as I have been affected myself in the past and overcome. so it interests me to help where I can.
A bit quiet here so far. I'd like to chat with painters but it would be nice if we could post images for discussion. I dabble in painting for pleasure, mainly acrylic on any suitable surface I have to hand (canvas, plywood, slate...). I've tried watercolour and I'd really like to get to grips with it but I get kind of nervous with the 'looseness' of the medium. I know this is regarded as one of its benefits but I can't help feeling kind of insecure with it. I can make my acrylic do what it's told...kind of thing. What do you think this signifies? Control freak?
