New today!

Hello. Literally just joined today. Bit daunted by the massive amount on here to read. So probably my first reason for joining is to meet some virtual friends. I was born in '51 and my teens and beyond were in the wonderful sixties an seventies. A lot of mad (and bad?!) memories to look back on. Now, after a terrible reaction to my first Covid vaccination, walking is a challenge but at least the brain still functions! Hope to chat with some other sixties survivors soon.

Hi there - saw your post & noticed you were born in '51 - me too. How did that happen? I don't think I'm 73 - my body does, but I don't! Don't know if you're male or female - not that it matters. If you feel like a chat just let me know. Best wishes to you.

Hello there. Yup, know what you mean......... still young in my head but the body is ageing....lol.
I was born in '52 and would love to connect with someone who can share memories of the 60s.
All the best

Lots of memories from the '60's (& 50's - as a child of course). I was born & brought up in Rochdale, Lancs., but left when I was in my early 20's. Where are you from?

Hiya. I was born and spent my youth and teen years in south east London (Plumstead/Woolwich). I left there to live in Kent when I married (badly!!!) in 1971. I have very fond memories of going to a disco in the Woolwich church crypt. Saturday morning pictures (those were the days!!) and then a swim in my local baths followed by a visit to the chippie for some 'scraps' on the way home was a regular thing.......... Ahh life seemed so much simpler then!!!! Love to hear your memories too.

Morning to you! I'm guessing you're Jan (can't keep typing puzzlerJan) 🙂 I also remember Saturday morning pictures. I grew up in what was then a small village (Castleton) on the outskirts of Rochdale. Believe it or not the village had 3 small cinemas. None now of course. The village was semi-rural then but now it's really just an extension of Rochdale. So my 2 siblings & I used to do quite a bit of roaming around - making dens etc & getting up to mischief. Funny you mentioned Kent - that's where my husband was from. I didn't marry until I was 50! Also not too well. We separated after about 7 years but he sadly died a couple of years later. Life doesn't always give us what we hope for does it?
Keep in touch
Norma

Hi Jan and Norma, I too remember the Saturday morning pictures, I was
born in Reading in Berkshire in 1948, we had 4 cinemas in those days, but
there is only one now a multiplex on the outskirts of the town. I now live
in Hampshire, but have siblings still in Reading. The thing I liked most about the 60s was the music, I used to enjoy the Mersey sounds of groups
like the Beatles, the pacemakers the Hollys and the rest of them. I still
think it’s the best music ever.
Well take care both of you, and I am always ready to chat, all best wishes
Terry.

Hi Norma. Lovely to hear from you. Would love to have a chat on here if we can sometime. Are you free in the early afternoons? You and Terry (soloman) too. Would love to make new friends. Where do you live now? As I said, I married at 19 which lasted 31 years too long!!!!! Still, I did have two daughters, one of whom now lives in Holland. I was 52 when I met Allen and we have now been married for 19 years. Hubby was born in Barrow-in-Furness and still has his accent which I still have trouble understanding sometimes!!. Unfortunately of course I was too old when we met for us to have our own family.
Living more in a town, the only time I got to play out in the woods was when we visited Mum's family but, yes, that was a fun time. Feel sorry for today's generation - they have missed out on so much of that type of freedom. Remember making things out of boxes? And Blue Peter with the sticky backed plastic??? I also well remember Watch with Mother on the tele. Loved the Woodentops!
Anyway, lets see if we or the three of us can get into the 'chat' sometime.
Take care
Jan

Hi Terry. Nice to hear from you. Ah, yes, the music in the 60s was the best ever! Have seen lots of 'tribute' groups and a couple of original groups in concerts like 'Sounds of the Sixties'. You forget they got old (like us!!).......... you tend to think of them as they once were. Do you listen to Boom Radio? They only play music from our era and its lovely to reminisce........ Do you too find yourself singing every word but can't remember what you did yesterday?.......... lol.
I feel very sad for the youngsters of today - they have none of the freedom we had in our youth. Do you remember making things out of boxes, and Blue Peter with sticky backed plastic? Ah, those were the days.
Anyway, would be nice to have a proper chat. Maybe we (and hopefully Norma too) could have a chat on here sometime? Early afternoons are the best time if you're around one day?
Take care
Jan

Hi Jan ( and Norma ) yes I do remember the things you mentioned, we used to go to our local park with a transistor radio and listen to the music.
We had several of the groups come to Reading, I remember going to see
the Hollys and having a girlfriend from school on my shoulder as she was
in love with the drummer haha, I then joined the Army in 1965 and was
posted abroad, so missed a lot of the late 60s.
Yes it would be nice to open up the chat room, you get a bit more privacy
there, as only the members can read the messages.
I am around most of the day, but sometimes go into the City to do a food
shop, but am usually back by lunch time, so I am up for the chat, and look
forward to it, enjoy the rest of your evening, all best wishes, Terry.

Hi Soloman & Jan
I'm up for a chat with both of you & afternoons suit me too. You've both mentioned 60's music - what was not to like? I loved it too inc. all the groups you mentioned. It was nice to know where you both live & Jan I'm not very far from Barrow-in-Furness. I live in Clitheroe which is a small & very pretty town not too far from Preston. I've lived here 9 years having lived in Yorkshire & latterly in Shropshire where my husband & I moved to when we got married. A lovely part of the country.
When I think of the 60's I do associate it with freedom & good times although I remember my late mum not being overly keen on it. I think she thought that every time I went out the door I was going to get drugs! (Something I never did in fact)! The trouble was she read the News of the World & the Sunday People & every headline seemed to be about drugs! Like most girls of the time I wore mini skirts & she used to say she had 'wider belts'! She was born in 1928 when fashions were just a tad different! I suppose each generation thinks the new one has things wrong. I try not to do that if I can help it although I do worry for youngsters now about social media.
Anyway, if I'm not careful I'll be writing War & Peace here so, hope to hear from you both soon.
Best regards, Norma

As another 1951er I would love to send you emails about my boring days in the midlands! I presume you are in the UK, but what does it matter? You must be so fed up after that vaccination reaction so do feel feel free to write whenever you want until you are 100% again and filling your days more.
Like many others I am unsure how this works, but presume we log on every so often to see if we have messages.

Warmest wishes Vanessa.

I joined today as well and am trying to get the feel of everything. Trying to get to the newer comments. So glad I stumbled upon you. Hope I can find you again. I certainly hope your mobility can improve. Covid was and still can be really rough but so much about vaccines and the virus itself they don’t know still. I had Covid twice. First time I developed Covid pneumonia and was hospitalized. My oxygen saturation levels drop when I am pretty active. They say it’s a long term Covid complication.
