Newcomer even though I’m olderHi there and welcome - Forever 16 - yes, me too!!!!! although my body tells me I'm not, my brain is definitely still youthful. Lots of things of interest on here - we've just discovered the games - a great way to pass a winter afternoon. Would love to have a chat.ViewDate:

Just JoinedHi Kath. You are so lucky to have them all living close by! How exciting to have little ones - bet they loved the train. Christmas is so magical when they are young. I remember it well - packing up stockings and taking them to the panto......... I think I shouted louder than they did.....lol. Hope the gala went well. It's good for them to be able to swim. No, unfortunately we don't get to Holland now. They live in a village outside Rotterdam and the coach trips all go to Amsterdam which is a good couple of hours on the train and then a second train to their village. For the last few years, they have come over once a year for a few days and we get allocated one day of their visit! Of course it involves a lunch-time..........lol. They are actually coming over at the end of January - very brave to do the Calais-Dover ferry crossing that time of year!!! Have you done much travelling? We have been lucky enough to do a lot of coach trips in recent years - both to Europe and the UK. Tend to stay a bit nearer home now although we are hoping to visit Ireland and the Scottish Highlands next year which are on our 'bucket list'. What about indoor hobbies? Do you read, like crafts etc? I love baking cakes too! Always up for new recipes.......... though they are not always successful!!! Well, thats enough rambling for now............ hope to hear more about you soon. All the best JanViewDate:

Just JoinedHi there. Yes, I know what you mean about winter - but lots of time for hobbies!!! We read a lot (thank goodness for a good library!), do crosswords etc and I knit little tiny clothes for the Special Care Baby Units. How old are your grandchildren? Mine are quite grown up now. My elder daughter lives in Holland with her partner and they have two children - a boy of 23 and a girl of 18. My younger daughter lives about 45 minutes drive away with her hubby and their two boys - one of 17 and the other 15. We don't see much of them as my daughter makes celebration cakes for a living and is always up to her eyes in cake mixture......lol. Where does the time go? It seems like only yesterday I was walking my two to junior school.............. Anyway, always up for a natter. Hope to hear from you again. All the best JanViewDate:

New to this group - Hello everyone 😄Hi Heather. Hmmm - families are a problem sometimes - especially when they are not your own! Yes, its difficult to avoid issues that belong to someone close to you. You are sensible to try to stay 'neutral' as much as possible - taking 'sides' is always a bad idea.. At the end of the day, you have to look after your own needs. Good for you to be determined to make your own friends, certainly before you retire. Definitely recommend voluntary work. Very rewarding. Take care xViewDate:

New to this group - Hello everyone 😄Hi Heather. Nice to hear from you. Happy birthday! Yes, I know what you mean about retirement looming - I remember it well. I too retired (from office work) at 58. Yes, do some charity work - I volunteered in our local Cancer Research shop. It is very rewarding and you get to meet some lovely people. It is important to keep busy while you can. We do travel quite a bit if that is your thing? Presume you are single? Lots of coach companies do trips for single people and you can also of course get to see a lot of lovely places. Anyway, take care. Look forward to hearing more about you if you would like to share! All the best JanViewDate:

New hereGreetings fellow puzzler! We have a lot in common! I am 72, married and live in Sevenoaks, Kent. I too love all sorts of crafts (though not especially good at any of them......lol). I do a lot of knitting for the Special Care Baby Units. We have a small plot of our own in a communal garden which we like to tend (in the warmer weather!!). We love to travel too, and have been lucky enough to do most of Europe and the UK. We do mainly coach trips now. The day to day cooking I must admit I leave mostly to my husband Allen - I make cakes, and also quiches and pies of various concoctions!!........ What type of jigsaws do you like? Have you tried Wasgijs? Our favourite!! We also love crosswords, I like codewords and Allen does Sudoku though I must admit I can't get my head round them........lol. Do you read? We love a good whodunnit though very rarely guess the culprit correctly! Anyway, would love to find out more about you (and your hobbies) if you would like to keep in touch. All the best JanViewDate:

New today!Hi Terry. Nice to hear from you. Ah, yes, the music in the 60s was the best ever! Have seen lots of 'tribute' groups and a couple of original groups in concerts like 'Sounds of the Sixties'. You forget they got old (like us!!).......... you tend to think of them as they once were. Do you listen to Boom Radio? They only play music from our era and its lovely to reminisce........ Do you too find yourself singing every word but can't remember what you did yesterday?.......... lol. I feel very sad for the youngsters of today - they have none of the freedom we had in our youth. Do you remember making things out of boxes, and Blue Peter with sticky backed plastic? Ah, those were the days. Anyway, would be nice to have a proper chat. Maybe we (and hopefully Norma too) could have a chat on here sometime? Early afternoons are the best time if you're around one day? Take care JanViewDate:

New today!Hi Norma. Lovely to hear from you. Would love to have a chat on here if we can sometime. Are you free in the early afternoons? You and Terry (soloman) too. Would love to make new friends. Where do you live now? As I said, I married at 19 which lasted 31 years too long!!!!! Still, I did have two daughters, one of whom now lives in Holland. I was 52 when I met Allen and we have now been married for 19 years. Hubby was born in Barrow-in-Furness and still has his accent which I still have trouble understanding sometimes!!. Unfortunately of course I was too old when we met for us to have our own family. Living more in a town, the only time I got to play out in the woods was when we visited Mum's family but, yes, that was a fun time. Feel sorry for today's generation - they have missed out on so much of that type of freedom. Remember making things out of boxes? And Blue Peter with the sticky backed plastic??? I also well remember Watch with Mother on the tele. Loved the Woodentops! Anyway, lets see if we or the three of us can get into the 'chat' sometime. Take care JanViewDate:

New today!Hiya. I was born and spent my youth and teen years in south east London (Plumstead/Woolwich). I left there to live in Kent when I married (badly!!!) in 1971. I have very fond memories of going to a disco in the Woolwich church crypt. Saturday morning pictures (those were the days!!) and then a swim in my local baths followed by a visit to the chippie for some 'scraps' on the way home was a regular thing.......... Ahh life seemed so much simpler then!!!! Love to hear your memories too.ViewDate:

New memberHi there. Wow - would love to see Niagara Falls. Unfortunately we have never travelled outside of Europe. We do a lot of coach trips now we are well into retirement and have been lucky enough to do most of the UK too. Have you ever been to the UK? There are some really lovely places here (and some not so lovely ones!). We are heading (amongst other places) to the Scottish Highlands this year - there are two coach trips - one is a wildlife trip and the other train journeys right across the country. Really looking forward to those. Do you travel at all? Hoping to make some friends on here to meet in the chat room sometimes but guess the time difference between our countries would make that unlikely. Still, happy to mail you sometimes if you like. Take care JanViewDate:

New memberHi there. Wow, I thought we had travelled well.....lol. We do a lot of coach trips (easier now we are well retired!) and have been lucky enough to have done a lot of Europe and the UK. We now tend to stay a bit nearer home. We have booked two trips next year to the Scottish Highlands which is somewhere I've always wanted to go. We have never been to Australia - too long a flight! Have you ever been to the UK? If you ever do, can probably give you some helpful tips!! Take care JanViewDate:

I don't want a Smart phoneI whole heartedly agree! Its okay for the younger generation who grew up with all this technology but to someone of my age, its all a total mystery! When I started work we didn't even have electric typewriters! I will carry on being a luddite as long as I can! -
