In 2025 my plan is to do a bike ride around central Queensland. I always find that if I put something on the agenda that's outside the normal it gives me a goal. This is quite the journey. It's around 650kms. Some climbing but nothing too hard. Rather than carry camping equipment I'll stay in cheap pubs and the like. I do enjoy the open road.
What about you Heather, what does 2025 hold for you, aside from work

Hi Mark,
I’m not too sure. I have responsibility for my elderly mum so am quite tied down right now. My time will come I’m sure. Your goal next year sounds really exciting and I look forward to hearing about your journey.

Hi Heather. Welcome! I am quite new to this too. I am 72, married and live in Sevenoaks, Kent. I love crafts, jigsaws, crossword puzzles, reading and travelling. Maybe we share some interests? If so, hope we can become friends. All the best. Jan

Hi Jan,

Thank you so much for the reply. I am 58 this week and still working full time. I love my job but am terrified of retirement which looms because of the sheer loneliness. Aside from that I keep myself busy and am contemplating doing some charity work at some point. I do like crossword puzzles and jigsaws and I was once an avid reader but can’t concentrate long enough to read a book these days. Hopefully I will regain that once I retire.

Hi Heather. Nice to hear from you. Happy birthday! Yes, I know what you mean about retirement looming - I remember it well. I too retired (from office work) at 58. Yes, do some charity work - I volunteered in our local Cancer Research shop. It is very rewarding and you get to meet some lovely people. It is important to keep busy while you can. We do travel quite a bit if that is your thing? Presume you are single? Lots of coach companies do trips for single people and you can also of course get to see a lot of lovely places.
Anyway, take care. Look forward to hearing more about you if you would like to share!
All the best
Jan

Hi Jan, I do like to travel although I’m not the best traveller tbh. I suffer with anxiety quite badly but I am determined to make some friends and get out a bit. I am single although have a boyfriend, although there are loads of problems there. I may share sometime if you want. These are not my issues and I try to keep out of them but inevitably get dragged into them from time to time. These are his family not mine, hence why I feel the need to make some friends if my own.
Take care
Heather

Hi Heather. Hmmm - families are a problem sometimes - especially when they are not your own! Yes, its difficult to avoid issues that belong to someone close to you. You are sensible to try to stay 'neutral' as much as possible - taking 'sides' is always a bad idea.. At the end of the day, you have to look after your own needs. Good for you to be determined to make your own friends, certainly before you retire. Definitely recommend voluntary work. Very rewarding.
Take care x

Hello Heather,
Does the 1736 part of your name refer to the French scientist Charles Marie de la Condamine's effort to measure the Earth's circumference at the Equator. Wow, I'm impressed. Few people pay homage to that date. Well done!
Jokes aside, if you feel the compunction to start up a chat I'm always keen.
As my hook states I'm from Brisbane Australia, most likely a very long way from where you live. Still. a chat is a chat.
Mark

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for responding. I’m not that clever to have thought of the reference you refer to in my name but it made me laugh anyhow!
Wow! Brisbane sounds an amazing place to live when I live in rainy Manchester, England. Oh to have some sun would be rather wonderful at any time of the year here…

Hi Heather,
I am kind of lucky to live where I live. For the most part our climate is benevolent, if a tad on the hot side but there's always the beach or rivers or pools to cool off in.
Retirement isn't the shock you think it is. Let me clarify that by saying 1, the financials are good 2, Health is fine 3, you don't shut yourself off from social interaction. I find great satisfaction in fund raising for hospitals, my football club, cycling journeys and travel overseas: that sort of thing. I was in the medical industry for many years and it was good to me so I try to pay it back. The important thing is to stay positive
cheers

Hi Mark, ( the guinea pig tickler)
That made me laugh…
I’m always worried I won’t have enough to retire on. I’ve worked all my life but it doesn’t seem enough. I have a good job in Local Government and love what I do. I’m a natural healer also but my group of people broke up with Covid and don’t seem to want to get together anymore. I would like to volunteer at some point. I think the good works on both sides of the coin and would keep me busy. I may even take a small part time job we shall see.

See, you do have some contingency plans. Life has a way of working itself out.

I haven't filled in my profile yet so I am 67 female, single w/no children and I live in Wisconsin.

I am retired, and have a cat!
What about you?
Response from Brisbaneoutbound made on 4th Dec 2024 01:24:50
I'm retired too but I don't have a cat. I'd like a capybarah as a pet. They are a South American rodent. They look cute

Hi,
I’m single, sort of, I do have a boyfriend but we see very little of each other. No children of my own but my boyfriend does (lots of issues). I live in the UK, no pets, am 58 at the end of this week and still working full time.
