Big believer in living life to it's fullest. I like to travel to places less traveled. Not into cruises, I need stimulation. I'm based in Australia but as a traveler I'll meet with people from all over the world. My 2nd language is German for what it's worth. -

Are we alone in the universe? The universe may well be teeming with life but distance and time are the prohibiting factors. Think for a moment there could have been advanced life on some planet , say 2000 light years distant but they expired a billion years ago. Sure They lived and breathed then but not a trace of their existence remains now. The chances of both them and us being on an acceptable time line is remoteViewDate:

Seeking penpal & ChatHi, I'm in good ol OZ and I'm always up for a chat. Brisbane is currently going thru a hot spell. It hit 37 degrees today so I went to Southbank for a well earned swim. Santa never really comes to Qld, he'd die of heat stroke. Mark (the guinea pig tickler)ViewDate:

New to this group - Hello everyone 😄In 2025 my plan is to do a bike ride around central Queensland. I always find that if I put something on the agenda that's outside the normal it gives me a goal. This is quite the journey. It's around 650kms. Some climbing but nothing too hard. Rather than carry camping equipment I'll stay in cheap pubs and the like. I do enjoy the open road. What about you Heather, what does 2025 hold for you, aside from work Mark (the road warrior)ViewDate:

New to this group - Hello everyone 😄Hi Heather, I am kind of lucky to live where I live. For the most part our climate is benevolent, if a tad on the hot side but there's always the beach or rivers or pools to cool off in. Retirement isn't the shock you think it is. Let me clarify that by saying 1, the financials are good 2, Health is fine 3, you don't shut yourself off from social interaction. I find great satisfaction in fund raising for hospitals, my football club, cycling journeys and travel overseas: that sort of thing. I was in the medical industry for many years and it was good to me so I try to pay it back. The important thing is to stay positive cheers Mark (the guinea pig tickler)ViewDate:

New to this group - Hello everyone 😄Hello Heather, Does the 1736 part of your name refer to the French scientist Charles Marie de la Condamine's effort to measure the Earth's circumference at the Equator. Wow, I'm impressed. Few people pay homage to that date. Well done! Jokes aside, if you feel the compunction to start up a chat I'm always keen. As my hook states I'm from Brisbane Australia, most likely a very long way from where you live. Still. a chat is a chat. MarkViewDate:

Just joinedMy birthday just seems like the sword of Damocles Another year gone. We have been developing rail trails all over Oz in recent years. They are a terrific idea. Since getting back from South America I haven't done a great deal on the bike. I'd better shave and don the lycra before the really hot weather comes.. Good to see you like riding too. Nowadays I ride at leasure, no feeling the pulse then going he'll for leather. I enjoy the trip, the fresh air in what little hair is remaining, plus seeing places not experienced in a car. Shouts of "get off the road you Bastard " are chimes to my ears. Mark (road rage enhancer) WorrallViewDate:

Just joinedAustralia is starting to hot up. Some parts of Sydney will hit 39 degrees today.. Brisbane is always warm so for us it's breakfast as usual. All the shopping centers are festooned with over-the-top Xmas decorations and people are lighting their houses with Xmas lights. Funny thing is most people in the last census claimed no religious affiliation. Hey, a holiday is a holiday, right! Cheers MarkViewDate:

Solo TravelI traveled a lot by myself- advantages are you can make it up as you go along, flexibility to go anywhere (great) and there is ample opportunity to meet people along the way. But you're right, just occasionally you wish there was someone to bounce off. Everyone's ideal travel partner is themselves in a different body. A person like oneself is impossible to find in my experience but hope springs eternal, right? My next trip is planned for around October. Cebu in the Philippines and Palau in the north Pacific. This has an aquatic theme to it unlike the one I've just returned from. I traveled around Peru, Bolivia and southern Chile. That was high altitude. Nice chatting, hope to hear from you MarkViewDate:

Anyone tried "grounding" mats/sheets?I'll add to the wealth of hokum. Prepare for sleep by relaxing your mind. Any stimulus should be avoided. I have some tricks but they only work for me. Try something that puts you in a happy place. Count fluffy puppy pitches to a baseball batter (joking, put away the knife). cheers Mark (the guinea pig tickler)ViewDate:

New memberI was in the UK in the late 70s for the first time. It was in the era of Aussie expansion into Europe. I landed a job as a tour guide and basically visited most of the common countries. Because I spoke German I then migrated to specialisation of doing tours of the communist block. Now, that was an interesting time. After a number of years in Europe I transfered to the US and did tours all over. To say I've been lucky is an understatement. I doubt if I'll ever get back to Europe again. One main reason is the huge cost . The Australian dollar buys very little against the euro. Places in Asia are still affordable for my dwindling resources. Keep on trucking MarkViewDate:

Good morning, everyoneMuch as I'd love to scuba dive my nasal cavity always reacts badly to the pressure. A snorkel will have to suffice I'm afraid. While you are living in a deep freeze Brisbane remains rather balmy though wet. I might head down the Gold Coast on Saturday and do a bit of body surfing. OK, love you and leave you MarkViewDate:

New memberGood morning PuzzlerJan. I'm in Brisbane Australia. I've just returned from South America where I did Peru, Bolivia and Chile . My next travel contemplation is the north Pacific and the Philippines. Since retiring from the medical industry I've done a few really interesting trips . Three of which to Indonesia, not Bali I may stress. Bali is the true meaning of paradise lost. Ghastly place now. Hey please feel free to contact me anytime MarkViewDate:

Good morning, everyoneCharming to hear back from you. I'm sitting in my bedroom looking out the window as the rain comes down. It's a bit of a godsend as we need the rain, no so much myself but the farmers inland. I'm contemplating my next trip in 2025.. this time the theme will be aquatic as to .y last one which was high altitude . Palau is in the north Pacific and it has an amazing lake called, you guessed it, Jellyfish Lake. One can swim with these harmless creatures. Each day hundreds of thousands of them assend from the depths to the sunlight and you can swim with them. Then I want to go to the Philippines and see the huge whale sharks. This is all white beaches and swimming. Most likely October or March. Love to hear from you again MarkViewDate:

Just joined!Hi Carrie, I'm on the other side in Brisbane (AFL premiers 2024). Just thought I'd throw that in there. Anyway, come October 2025 I want to do a somewhat aquatic themed trip to Palau, Taiwan and the Philippine islands. In Palau swimming with the Jellyfish and in Cebu swimming with the harmless Whale Sharks. Bucket loads of other interesting stuff to do. Subterranean rivers and waterfalls. Worth a comment? Cheers MarkViewDate:

Good morning, everyoneGreetings from Brisbane Australia. I just got back home from a trip to Peru, Bolivia and Chile. Saw all the sites, Muchu Picu, Lake Titicaca, the Altoplano and the Salt Flats. Did the Death Road on a push bike and hiked the trails in Northern Patagonia. The days here are starting to warm up -we hit 33 deg today. Might head out for a swim later. So, Lady Rose, please feel free to correspond anytime, if nothing more tan chit chat Regards MarkViewDate:

TRAVELING SOLO AND LOOKING FOR A COMPANION?My name is Mark. I have just recently returned from Peru, Bolivia and Chile. I live in Brisbane Australia. I like to do things with an edge of adventure. In Bolivia I did the "Death Road" ride and hiked in Patagonia. October of 2025 is planned for my new adventure. This time around the theme is going to be far more aquatic. Qantas has recently opened up a direct flight to Palau. Palau, for the uninitiated is an Island country administered by the US. There are a number of things to do there but foremost is the jellyfish lake. One can swim with these harmless jellies (millions of them) practically every night. It's an experience I would love to partake in. There after it's planned to take an EVA Air flight to Taiwan as a stopover (perhaps three days) Why Taiwan - it really has to do with the flight destinations in the Philippines. From Taipei one can fly direct to Cebu rather than Manila (Manila is rather underwhelming) In Cebu one can snorkel with the harmless, yet very large Whale Shark. Not to mention waterfalls and subterranean rivers. Brilliant ! Short hop internal flights to perhaps White Beach on Boraquay brings to an end a very interesting trip, I'll throw it out there for anyone looking to do something different and not too expensive. -
