Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

How are you doing this weekend? I have been to England and many other cities in the UK for business and vacation many times in the past.
I hope we get to communicate more before my next trip after this global restriction has ended.
God bless you my dear.
Best Wishes,
David
I've just joined, having been thinking for some time about expanding my friendship circle in a completely different direction. Wey hey! Done it!
Your 'post' caught my eye. I live in rural Buckinghamshire surrounded by fields.
I was walking today with a friend. We did about 5 miles and in the past that would have set off my hip but I've been doing a lot of exercise during lockdown - (which has kept me going the last few months as I've been feeling in need of .... something..... ) and my pain has essentially gone, by strengthening and stretching muscles around hips and lower back. And stomach. And shoulders. It gets me everywhere - thankfully! So I'm feeling stronger and fitter at 66, than I have for a while. Wanting to do more short walks and seeking new friends to chat with along the way.
Re. cycling - well, I have a bike and I bought a go faster cycling helmet recently. I've been out twice, the second time I sort of collapsed at the very end of 12 miles into a shrub while trying to get off - exhausted. Now contemplating an electric bike. Being a bit of a procrastinator though that won't happen any time soon. And I do so love my car.
I've all sorts of other interests plus I'm a bit of a radio 4 wall to wall listener when not out in the garden. It's late and I've just heard Jane Garvey - ex-womans hour - in another slot which is pleasing.
I've no idea how this all works. I guess this is all public to members who are signed in?
If anyone feels like contacting me ? - also ?

Greetings to you from Georgia, United States of America. I am 65 and will be 66 soon. I have been to London and several other cities in the UK. Bristol, York, Leicester,Birmingham,Cambridge, etc.
I lost my only daughter wife on the same day in 2018. That was the hardest year in my life. But I have a grand son. His name is Rickey. He's my buddy. He lives with his dad and grand mother. Not very far from me. I used to live in Texas. But after the death of my wife and daughter, I had to move back to Georgia where my wife and I have our home we bought here during the early 80s. Now I am more closer to my grand son.
Have you ever been to the United States before?
I would like us make contact and get to communicate better and hopefully become friends.
I hope your weekend has been a great one and that this week started off with you better.
Please write back when ever you can.
Blessings to you!
David
My name is Suzanne Hughes ( nee Mason). I now live in Brisbane Australia.I have tried for a long time to locate a very old friend of mine from Barry Glamorgan. Her name is Diane Peacock. I think her married name could be" Baker". She is the sister of Stuart Peacock MBE. who as far as we know still lives in Barry .If anybody knows her whereabouts I would be much appreciated.
Kind regards Suzanne

I'm 64 and I live in The Peak District.
I'm a semi retired psychotherapist and to be honest I'm a bit lonely so talking and chatting would be good.
Like the original poster says it's a bit of a surprise how you suddenly realise you have become isolated.
Anyhoo...here goes
