Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

I am down on the south coast..Dorset...was originally from London..but removed further south after retirement..Do miss the "old smoke"...well..the night life really. As I worked in the casino world,my social life was "upside down",as it were..totally opposite to "9 to 5ers"..
You sound as lively as your car..lol..I do hope we can get along electronically...If it suits..I am available(??!!) on [email protected].
..Hope to hear from you..either via here or email.
Take care,

People get lost on this site and so there are many old messages that go unanswered. There should be less categories and a better way to get around the site and find your way back to the messages you responded to.

Not sure if you were referring to Sandra 485 or Trillium to correspond with so I thought I would just write ....
I live in the heart of downtown Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. I am retired and enjoy the free time that it affords me to travel, except of course during the Pandemic. We have been in lockdown as long as I can remember, but thankfully we can travel within Canada and it’s a big country. Love both the west and east coast ... each very different and each absolutely breathtaking.
Cheers,
Anna

First time on here, I thought i would say Hi and see what follows. I'm 57 semi retired. Been at home for the last year with covid lockdown just like everyone else. Lucky to have family living with me so has been easier on me then a lot of others I know. Although we all caught Covid 19 and i had to spend 3 weeks in hospital. We have recovered thankfully. I am looking to make friends to open my circle of friends. You find that when you go out to work you leave the house early and return late so you don't really get a chance to chat with neighbours etc especially in winter you just want to get in and shut the door. Well I thought this may be the place to find like minded people, who have a little more time on their hands. It would be nice to have a chat over a coffee on here. I am happily married with 3 grown children and one lovely 8 yr old granddaughter. So please say hello next time your on and i look forward to making some new friends. I hope you all have a good week ahead of you.
Well I am now totally retired and have managed to stay fairly sane over the last 12 months ... I
Two super daughters, son in laws and grandchildren too.
Must have done something right!
It’s good to chat so whenever you have a few minutes.....
I don’t reply in minutes so do please bear with me..... I am usually on the run still
Thank you for saying hi, I look forward to chatting .
I'm married and semi retired living in Menorca. Been here for some 17 years and love life in the Mediterranean. Have 2 daughters living in the UK but unfortunately like so many haven't seen them for many months but hope that a light will be at the end of the tunnel soon. Keep active, love walking and volunteer at the local animal shelter a few times a week walking dogs, visiting cats etc. Have a dog and 2 stray cats that turned up on my on my doorstep. I am ex Royal Air Force so have travelled a fair amount and also lived all over the UK before moving to Spain.
Please get in touch if you fancy a chat.
Regards
Simbadog
Menorca lucky you, We have the North sea on our doorstep which is cold. We have to have a good few months of sun to warm our sea up. We had good weather last year and i did go swimming with our granddaughter last summer but will be a while longer before we do that again. I hope you have or will have the vaccine soon so normality does return. My family are waiting on our 2nd jabs by mid May we hope. I bet you have a lot of stories adventures you can talk about all the travelling you must of done in the Air Force. One of the reality tv shows was based in Menorca and it looked stunning, I haven't been there but my husband and i said we liked the idea of visiting it someday after seeing it. Well i had better get on with sorting out the Sunday Roast. I look forward to hearing from you again soon, Have a great week as best we can now a days.
Regards

We have had no where near the infection rate as the Spanish Peninsula.
Went into a nationwide strict lock down March last year for a couple of months and then went through the summer with relaxed restrictions to enable something of a tourist season.
We are still on restrictions, nothing as strict as the UK are now emerging from though. The UK are definitely ahead of the game with the vaccine the roll out here and around Europe has been much slower.
Stay safe
If you want to cycle but concerned about achieving any distance, had you thought of an electric bike? I bought one a few years back and enjoy the security of being able to start the motor in a headwind or going up hills. I also joined a local cycling club that does evening social rides - they can go faster on the flat but I am the champion on the slopes! Locally, there are a number of senior groups that go out during the day with differing routes for various levels of 'keenness'. They usually have a break at a cafe mid-way through.

Seems like a good place to stop if you ask me.
Apart from being a counsellor, clinical supervisor, coach, retired NHS pharmacist, husband, parent, grandparent, friend, opponent, stumbling block and general irritant to certain sections of the public and officialdom…I also enjoy all music except C&W & Opera, playing guitar, reading, cooking, eating, evading the washing up, doing the washing up, cinema, shouting at the tv during the news and sports, flying [ as in paying someone else to convey me from Point A to B ], holidays, hanging out with my church pals and other sundry mates, cars and driving round the lovely countryside where I live...Morayshire….in fact driving anywhere.. narrow boating, and lastly spending quality time with my wife, and family ie. two daughters + sons in law + three grandsons. Now 65 and counting, perhaps laid back to the point of indifferent complacency. Really enjoy my therapy career, and the folks I work with.
I would love to meet new friends and find new interests to fill the days ahead. My pets are great friends but I must admit it is a one-sided conversation. With Covid on the rampage getting out and about is not what it used to be. I must admit it is difficult to attract the attention of a potential new friend by holding up a sign that reads.."Hello, if you want to be friends~Please walk by and hold up a new message next time you pass by." The return messages were not what I had hoped for.
Enough of the nonsense..I will check in to see from time to time..
signing out~ SeaStar

So spread your wings and see what happens, lots of lovely people are waiting to hear from you
Sounds like you have had an interesting life so far, so what’s next?
Hope to speak soon
Cannot guarantee finding a BFF or even a BFG, but I suggest you cast your eye over Speakers Corner. Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's and it IS interesting reading other viewpoints, sometimes it confirms yours and sometimes it encourages you to revalidate. There are no taboos and providing you stay within very generous limits on decency and legality, rant to your hearts content or absorb others ranting.
Coming out of lockdown is a real prospect. Some people have had a much harder time than others but it has highlighted that tomorrow is unknown and unknowable, especially if you have far more years behind you than in front of you. My philosophy now is: if you think it now, say it; if you want it now, get it if possible; if you fancy it, do it.
Loneliness is cruel and with modern media more easily avoided.
Good luck getting what you seek.
From another retiree
I retired a few years ago and after filling my time with volunteering opportunities, due to COVID the activities have basically ceased.
However I am still with a lovely group and we visit/phone whatever we can currently..... lovely old folk who are isolated for various reasons.
This has been a real boost for me and I am looking forward to developing these friendships soon.
Hope you have managed to find things to do too?
Lovely to hear from you
My retirement was really bad timing as we went into a Tier 4 lockdown, so not seeing family, friends or anything. As of the this week we are allowed to meet in groups of 6 in the garden or parks etc., then on the 12th we can move more freely round the country and all the shops that have not been open will do so and you can meet in a pub garden
I’m seeing my eldest daughter tomorrow, the first time in months, I can’t wait.
I have managed to fill my time reading, quizzes, music and watching TV, dramas, true stories and films
I did some volunteer work before, I befriended a 90-year-old gentleman and that was lovely, so I’m hoping come June if things go in the right direction, I can think about doing something like that
If ever you fancy a chat, I’m here, I love chatting
Regards
Jocelyn
You have a fascinating username… I love it. Where does it come from? I would gladly be your friend. I’m slowly finding out in my Covid world, that my online friends are starting to mean a lot to me.
I am 70, and I am very happily divorced. I’m a very positive person for the most part… I could probably lift your spirits in a few minutes… Have social worker to my career, there’s nothing I haven’t heard… You can tell me anything… If you’re interested…
