Relocating to AmericaAJDallas … You would be wise not to relocate to Knoxville, Tennessee. It’s a different world from anywhere you might live in the UK. Have you spent anytime in the USA? Very different mindset than anywhere else on this earth, especially in Tennessee. If it was NYC, I might suggest you give it a go, but Knoxville, Tennessee, don’t even entertain the thought. I was born in Rotterdam and my family left Holland when there was a mass exodus of Nederlanders leaving for the USA, Canada and South Africa hoping for a better life. We were the only ones in the whole family that immigrated to Canada. I have many cousins living in the Netherlands that I’ve had the pleasure keeping in touch with. New Member from CanadaKareney I am also a fairly new member and a resident of Ontario and in the past have enjoyed long distance sailing and more recently motoring along the Trent system with friends. On a whole just love being on the water. I am similar in age and enjoy cycling the Martin Good Trail and the Toronto Islands. I am retired from Education and I also love dogs of mostly any variety as long as on a whole, they’re well behaved. I enjoy a good movie, book and good coffeeViewDate:

It is rather cumbersome and certainly could be improved upon but if you hope to strike up some friendships sometimes you have to work a little harder to be able to accomplish that. Your experience of retirementHang in there ecarg. It will improve over time. You just have to be patient. I know it’s difficult the longer the restrictions stay in place and we’re required to wear masks here in Ontario whenever we’re indoors sharing space. I even have to show proof of vaccination to have my latte in a wonderful, light space across the street from where I live in Toronto. Leaving for Vancouver shortly to celebrate the holiday season with family. I’m looking forward to that.’ Take time to think of all the good things in your life in your life …. I am a senior but by the looks of things, younger than most on the Silver Surfers website and female. I’ll make this short since I am currently enjoying our place on Savary Island, BC. Could you give up your car?I gave up my car a number of years ago but I live in the heart of the City and public transit is good so most days, I make my way around on public transit. I do rent a car a number of times through the summer to get out on the open road. It always feels good to be behind the wheel again and driving with the windows down.ViewDate:

Are trick or treaters welcome at your door this weekend?I enjoy having the little ones at my door …. with the parents waiting for them at the end of the driveway. Hi to everyoneHi there Tom I live in the heart of downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada so a long way from where you live in the NW of England. I very much enjoy the great outdoors, cycling, hiking and have travelled as far as Australia and Thailand. I am lucky enough to just be a stone’s throw away from the Toronto Island Ferries which take me away to the Islands situated on Lake Ontario. I love to cycle the Islands and the Martin Goodman Trail which follows the Lake. If you’re looking for someone to meet up with on a regular basis who lives nearby, I’m sorry to have wasted your time. Husband with DementiaHi DeeDee Sorry to hear that you had to put your husband in an assisted living facility after many, many years. I am sure it was one of the most difficult situations that you have had to face in your lifetime. My husband passed away a while back and although it’s not quite the same situation for you, your husband that you once knew and loved is no longer there …. I hope you find others on this forum that are in a situation similar to what you’re experiencing … it can be quite lonely out there …. You may want to try and connect with other woman coming to assist their loved ones in the facility, women in your neighbourhood that you can join for coffee or join a book club. Fortunately or unfortunately, I am assuming he will not miss you and staff will feed him if you are not there. Above all, be kind to yourself …. TrilliumViewDate:

Guidance to recovery lonelinessHi There I have travel on my mind and I will be on my way shortly with a trip planned to Alberta and BC. We have been in lockdown here in Ontario for almost a year non-stop. The children are still learning remotely and will not return to the classroom this year. Rather sad, all in all. I have travelled all over the world and understand that each culture has something different to offer. I love the Beach neighbourhood along Queen Street especially the boardwalk, the Leuty Lifeguard Station and Kew Gardens. Feels a little more like a neighbourhood than the Harbourfront area which during the summer is packed with tourists. Another gorgeous day here ... hope you enjoyed the same. Cheers, TrilliumViewDate:

I live in the heart of downtown Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. I am retired and enjoy the free time that it affords me to travel, except of course during the Pandemic. We have been in lockdown as long as I can remember, but thankfully we can travel within Canada and it’s a big country.
