Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Such a surreal time right now, glad its an opportunity for the earth to heal however the cost in lost lives is very high and that's a very sad part of all of this.
Anyway please respond is anyone feels like a chat. this site has so much on it almost too much choice if there can be such a thing:-)
Take care everyone

But in this time of self-isolation, the stark realities of having no "support system" are starting to dawn on me. Not feeling sorry for myself, just trying to be realistic. I had an enjoyable life before the current Covid-19 crisis. Overnight it just disappeared (just as it has for many others, I suspect).
Like celtwich, I too went to university late and therefore didn't get a career out of it. I didn't expect to be isolated either, but the coronavirus apparently has other ideas.
Anyway, hello to everyone and don't hesitate to reply.
I hope you enjoy being part of our community.

I have just coined and this is my first post, thank you for reading xx
I only have a small garden and I guess I am a bit of a learner at gardening! but I'm improving.
This is the first time I have posted, so I'm feeling my way a bit but will keep looking in.
I'm Katherine, I early retired from teaching at 60 (I'm 64 now) but until all this hit, I was busier than ever. I volunteered at a local school, ran a Sunday School and did various other jobs at church, and have been running a large (1000 entries) local speech and drama festival, which couldn't have its grand finale, which would have been tomorrow. *Sob*
I'm setting up a virtual Sunday School, pacedly Spring-cleaning, sorting out and packing away the festival stuff, considering whether I will volunteer to still go the the school I volunteered at if they need an extra pair of hands. And if I get through all that, I will have no excuse not to start creating the website I keep being told I should set up!
Popping in here will definitely become one of my 'coffee break' treats.
