Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hya I’m 67 , just trying to pass my time
Enjoyable
In this lock down . I’m 3 weeks tommorow
On lock down .
Be nice to speak to some folk same age
I’ve got family who FaceTime
Me everyday
So I think I’m pretty lucky
I’ve got a Bichon dog prince 5
Who at the moment is my lifesaver
I watch tv, read Do housework
Normally be out walking
Sitting having a coffee
That I’m sadly addicted to
So anyone feel free to chat .

Hi. Just found this site and been reading and enjoying all the posts. I’m 68 and in lockdown with my daughter in law and grandsons while my son is isolating in my house because he is still working. Isn’t it a strange life at the moment and I wonder how long it will take to get back to normal. Don’t know about everyone else but I am writing a list of all the things I am going to do, all the people I am going to see and all the places I’m going to visit. And won’t it be nice just to think to pot with the housework, pick up your bag, jump in the car and go shopping even if you don’t really need anything. Until then everyone take care.

Totally agree with your Maureen its very surreal at the moment and like you i have a list of things i want to do when we are all allowed out of lockdown, top of my list is the family - FaceTime is just not the same. It will be so nice to just be able to go out as and when rather than just once a day for some exercise.

Hello celtwitch. I am new here, too, and not quite certain of where to post what and to whom and how. So hello to you. I'm married, husband retired, I'm still working as a weighbridge operator, a 50 hour week, one daughter, two grandchildren, and a very (apparently) irritating habit of being cheerful and positive and getting annoyed by the doom and gloom "we're all going to die tomorrow and there will be 15 feet of snow tomorrow and this time next week all 50 million gerbils will be struck down by gerbilitis"
So. I insist on being positive. It's still a beautiful world. Smile x

Hello all, Just hopped on here, guess like many others, just trying to keep connected. have managed to keep busy doing all the things that i never previously had time to do but that is coming to a close as most of it is getting near completion so will need to keep busy in other ways.

Such a surreal time right now, glad its an opportunity for the earth to heal however the cost in lost lives is very high and that's a very sad part of all of this.

Anyway please respond is anyone feels like a chat. this site has so much on it almost too much choice if there can be such a thing:-)

Take care everyone

My grandsons 9th birthday today and only get to see him by video link. So glad I kept up with technology now we are in this lock down. 70 yr old widow. Bit lonely not getting any hugs and kisses from family but at least we are safe. Glad I am not working . I would have been in the middle of the universal credit upheaval. I feel sorry for dwp and what they are trying to cope with. But all the frontline deserve our backing in this difficult time. Regards Jean jet55 or jettez. I use so many names on different sites.

Hello Celtwich, I just joined here cos I am all alone in the lockdown and it is kind of scary. What you say about not expecting to be isolated is so true and rang a bell with me. I have three adult children two of whom I am close to but right now with this lockdown can't see them at the moment.
Where you live sounds very nice I am in Kent right opposite a fruit farm so a different kind of rural.
I know this is a bit stilted but it is a first time for me not chatting face to face with a cuppa.
I am 69, retired from all sorts of jobs but not been to university. also looking for friends and maybe can meet up after this lockdown is done

Hello. My name is Jennie and I have just joined today. I am 68 years old, single and live in Wakefield. I am very family orientated and enjoy a laugh. I also love shopping and enjoy pottering in the garden, a little walking (when feeling fit enough),reading and Sudoku. I have lost my close 3 friends over the last 2 years and particularly with the current Coronavirus situation I am looking for some new people to chat to.

Hi celtwitch (and anyone else reading this). I'm new to this too. Have never joined a forum or chat room before, because I'm scared of it turning out to be just another dating site! I'm not looking for dates, by the way - I'm a happily-married 71-year-old with very few friends (long story) and no family at all (ditto). I'm not just another poor sad old lady, but a reasonably intelligent thoughtful person with wide-ranging interests and a lot of self-reliance!

But in this time of self-isolation, the stark realities of having no "support system" are starting to dawn on me. Not feeling sorry for myself, just trying to be realistic. I had an enjoyable life before the current Covid-19 crisis. Overnight it just disappeared (just as it has for many others, I suspect).

Like celtwich, I too went to university late and therefore didn't get a career out of it. I didn't expect to be isolated either, but the coronavirus apparently has other ideas.

Anyway, hello to everyone and don't hesitate to reply.

Hello .I am Kate , I am 80 and live in Ulverston.I was widowed 10 years ago and although I live alone, I do have family living in the same town so I am very lucky. I have a friend who lives further north up the west coast who visits when he can but of course the visits are on hold until all this chaos has finally cleared away. I am able to take the familie's dog for walks which gets me outof the house ,and I do see my family ....at a distance.....!
I only have a small garden and I guess I am a bit of a learner at gardening! but I'm improving.
This is the first time I have posted, so I'm feeling my way a bit but will keep looking in.
Response from Wilf made on 21st Mar 2020 21:43:30
Hello Kate-many of us Silversurfers get a lot of enjoyment walking our dogs. One of my daughters is cooped up in her London flat and she says that her dog relives all the tension and especially going out to walk him with some fresh air and exercise. Take care.

Hi

I'm Katherine, I early retired from teaching at 60 (I'm 64 now) but until all this hit, I was busier than ever. I volunteered at a local school, ran a Sunday School and did various other jobs at church, and have been running a large (1000 entries) local speech and drama festival, which couldn't have its grand finale, which would have been tomorrow. *Sob*

I'm setting up a virtual Sunday School, pacedly Spring-cleaning, sorting out and packing away the festival stuff, considering whether I will volunteer to still go the the school I volunteered at if they need an extra pair of hands. And if I get through all that, I will have no excuse not to start creating the website I keep being told I should set up!

Popping in here will definitely become one of my 'coffee break' treats.
