Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hello,

I have just joined this forum. I am 60 years old and live in a small town in Yorkshire. I work from home and care for my 19 year old son, who still lives at home, and his 21 year old brother, who has just moved into supported lodgings. Both sons have mental health difficulties.

I also have three fantastic indoor cats, so you might find me lurking on the 'Pets' forum, and I enjoy walking and reading.

I am quite used to online forums, but this one seems much friendlier and more open than others.

🙂

Hi,

Yes I have just joined the website around two months ago. Not made any comments much only today. I am living with my Son who has had learning difficulties when young as he was deaf after having measles at a young age. I have no partner as he died two years ago (that is a long story).

I enjoy travel but can’t at the moment due to Covid. Like Golf and swimming.

Looking for friendship as I am 68 nothing else. Live in Essex but Iam a Northerner.

Hello, not sure if you get on very often. You created in September. Are you in England? I wasn't sure where you are. I live in south Texas in the United States.
I have been single a long time and not looking for anything but friendship. I am 83, female. I have 3 grown sons and 14 grandchildren. Like you, my children are busy with their own lives. Grandchildren are on with their lives also. I stay busy though. Love to read everything, do yard work, have 3 dogs who are my family.
Love all animals. I am a fixer upper. I would rather fix up something than buy new. Have many wonderful friends so I am ok.

I love the music of the 50s and 60s too! I was born in Liverpool and never a great Beatles fan because I was into the American music scene. Roy Orbison, Del Shannon and Gene Pitney were my favorites. However I always liked Lennon-McCartney as composers. Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby are two of the most haunting songs I know.

Hello everyone,

I've really enjoyed reading the stories here, though some of them are quite sad. I'm 60 and live in London. Have a lovely wife who puts with a lot from me and keeps an amazing garden. I had lots of careers, but took early retirement at 57 from quite a responsible job in the civil service as the internal politics and become really nasty and I did not feel I fitted in any more.

For the last three years, I tried lots of interesting things. I walked right across France and Spain on caminos, and did volunteering in Spain too. This inspired me to learn Spanish to keep my French knowledge company. I've had some great times talking with French and Spanish people on Skype.

I went back into teaching for a while on retiring, but found supply teaching a bit of a nightmare to be honest. It was like babysitting with really badly behaved teaching, and not like the fun teaching I did 20 years ago! So I started hosting foreign students and teaching them English, which was really interesting and quite well paid. But COVID has put paid to all that.

To keep active during this pandemic I've been driving a truck for a food bank where the people are really lovely and am training to be a Citizens Advice volunteer. But I miss my two girls terribly and really hope we get to see them at Christmas.

Thanks for reading,

Peter

Hello Mosquito, my name's Peter. I did a CELTA qualification, though it is not obligatory. I already have a PGCE. The CELTA gave me more confidence and although it is quite expensive and you usually end up doing it with people half your age it was actually really good. Problem is that there is little TEFL work out there that isn't online and paid very low wages. Hosting and teaching is much better paid, but obviously not an option at the moment. Do get in touch if you want to find out more...

I really don't know anything about South Africa. Some parts sound really lovely, but I have only seen much of your country in documentaries or movies. Movies probably aren't too realistic. I live in South Texas, but have lived all over the United States, at least the western states. Our country is in termoil at the moment. But in spite of all the chaos, we live in a wonderful free country. Is Rochdale in South Africa? I was kinda confused about where you are living now. I am an active and healthy {just a few aches and pains } 83. I love to read, work in my yard and amazingly enough, build or fix up things. I have 3 dogs and a big yard for them to run, however, I live in a home owners association and have several hundred acres to take them. for a walk off leash just about every day . It may sound like I am well off, but I have very little income, but I manage very well. If you are interested in chatting, I would love to hear more about you and your family.

Hi Happy Hippy, I am also new to this site and looking hopefully to make some new friends.
I lost my husband 8 months ago and am trying to move forward. I live in the east of Scotland in a small town near Edinburgh I have been here for 14 years before that we lived in Edinburgh.. i am looking forward to getting to know a lot of surfers.
Response from Eebby made on 25th Oct 2020 11:38:14
Hi Gordon
I am really sorry for your loss and I am glad you have such wonderful memories of your Mum and best friend, I also have great memories of my husband and that’s what keeps me going. I have been to the west coast but don’t know it all that well. Your right about Edinburgh it does feel different from Glasgow, my brother lives in Glasgow and he’s been there for many years but he wouldn’t move back to Edinburgh he loves it there. I live in Penicuik about 12 miles from Edinburgh and everyone knows everyone else. I hope you find lots of friends and enjoy the site.
Take care Elaine x

Hi, I have just joined and this is my first post. I am 77 and after a lifetime as a Nurse I am now living with my Husband in Derbyshire, my sons are in Wales and Somerset and the extended family are widespread. I have limited mobility so am hoping for online friends with whom I can have diverse and interesting conversations. My interests are reading history and detective stories, painting & drawing and people.

Stay safe out there.

You seem like a pleasant one. I too am old enough to be "abandoned" by those interested in more entertaining beings. I'm a bit of an Anglophile (I live in Ohio, my father was born in Shropshire - Madelay I think. I envy you those Lancashire hills and hope you are able to do them well.

You will strike up those desired friendships, I'm sure.

P.S. I'm a Hotspur fan.
