Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hello..I’ve just joined too. I am 69 I’m very lucky as I m in contact either by phone or FaceTime with all of my family who live not far from me. I look after two of my granddaughters as their mam and dad have to work..They are my bubble as I was widowed 9 years ago and live on my own except for my two rather big cats and my 5 month fox faced beagle. I live in South Wales and have the hillsides literally on my doorstep so I can be outside walking every day. I feel for those who do not have this freedom ...albeit restricted. I don’t think I would cope very well if I wasn’t able to go out and walk the fields. I m trying to learn Welsh, my youngest son and his oldest daughter aged 6 are bilingual and it was my maternal grandmother s first language, I think it’s beautiful but I’m not finding it easy, it’s a long long time since my O level and I don’t really practice enough.

I'm 70 and retired for 2 years. I volunteer for the Red Cross which keeps me active.

With COVID-19 looking for friends to chat with. Isolation has been hard and don't see it changing soon. I will get my first shot next Friday. Not that it will change much of 5 or 6 months when a majority of the US has received.

I'm 66 years old and live in a tiny apartment in a little town in New Mexico. Everything has shut down because of COVID. My family lives in Texas. Before the pandemic I was very active gardening and tending livestock on a local farm. I'm prior Navy and before that I worked as an auto mechanic, but that was long ago. Isolation is difficult. Would love to talk to someone. I love to cook and craft. Give a shout if you want to talk.

What's the weather like GingerA? WE have lockdown here in the UK and the weather is miserable which just compounds the situation.

It's been unseasonably warm for a week then bam! We had snow over the weekend! It was lovely, now it's melting so it's muddy but tomorrow is supposed to be much warmer and sunny.

I am new to this also, I live in Georgia USA. I recently closed my Facebook account. I don’t have any friends in this area, I moved here a few years ago to be closer to my daughter and her family. I have found it very difficult to meet anyone during this pandemic. Most everything is online now and no in person classes, meetings or anything. Churches have started opening, I haven’t been , my daughter and her husband both got COVID-19 from a person at church.
I like New Mexico, I have visited different areas most are very pretty. If you get back on here get in touch.

Nice to hear from you. Georgia has the prettiest beaches I've ever seen. Covid has wreaked havoc on everyone. So far I'm counting my blessings. None in my family have come down with it. Hope your family is well now. We all just have to hang on. Youtube is great for learning new crafts and Amazon delivers to the door. I'm looking at junk journals with great interest.

I too live on a beautiful island, Menorca in the Balearics. Been to the Channel Islands several times but a few years ago now when I was serving in the RAF it must be a lovely place to live.
Hope to hear from you.

Hi Simbadog, many thanks for the welcome. So you know Jersey, when we’re you here and where did you stay? I haven’t been to Menorca but did visit Majorca many years ago, can’t remember the area where we stayed. So do you do any form of work or are you totally retired? I still work but have reduced to 4 days, I’ve been working from home since last March due to COVID. I’m an early riser so start at 6am which means I’m finished by lunchtime

I'm new to the chat thing too but your post caught my eye. I'm also 67 and finished a doctorate when I was about 50. For one reason or another, things didn't materialize as I'd hoped. Now, I'm partially retired but teach online.

I don't know where Lancashire valley is but it's a lovely name. I live in the US in Arizona and there are few fully grown trees. Instead, there are cactus, tumbleweeds, and a few desert tolerant trees. I appreciate the desert but it's not my cup of tea. I live here only for my two small grandchildren.

Well, nice to meet you.

Im 72, and for the past few years have been a carer for my disabled wife. Been shielding since this corvid started and it seems to have been going on forever. The isolation got to us fairly early, we miss seeing the grandbairns and family, specially worse as most of them live away. Took up astronomy as a hobby and learning about it has helped a little. Don't know how I will get on with this as I am not a great 'social network' user nor a great conversationalist. However. I will look forward to any interaction even though I suspect for me this will be a steep learning curve. Any tips greatly appreciated. I could also do with some help with the astronomy too!

Good Evening all
I'm new to silversurfers and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Al and I reside in eastern US
in the Philadelphia metro area. I'm 65 years young, semi retired, with a wide range of interests .

Single, with no children and a shrinking extended family has its advantages, but also presents a few
challenges . Sometimes thoughts of what the future holds can be overwhelming.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and look forward to chatting with some new and interesting
people.

Be well everyone, and all the best for the new year!!

Greetings!!

I'm wishing I had put almost anything but NonnieK as my username!!

I'm Kris. 67 - I often have a hard time realizing I'm 67!

I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, US.

I have a son, a daughter, grandson ( staying w/me) a 10 yr old granddaughter & a 9 yr old granddaughter.

I have a variety of interests, hobbies & such some of which are hard & kinda hard and not at all hard to do at this point in time!

I got excited to see that this group seems to be mostly people from England, Scotland, Ireland, and many others I'm sure!

It has been a dream of mine to go to Scotland. Guess I'll do my traveling by the seat of my pants!!

Even though I'm definitely an introvert, this Covid stuff, really has had a bigger impact on me than I thought it would months ago.

I'm single, but sometimes I wish there was another "pea" rattling around here. Miss those hugs & kisses!

Take good care!
Response from waterdragon made on 6th Dec 2020 21:13:13
Hi NonnieK

I like the idea of a ‘pea like me’ site. It hasn’t been an easy year for anyone - I’ve managed to keep active, a little less inclined now it’s colder, but there are days when life is a little harder. I have two daughters - one living close by - plus a grandson (17) and a granddaughter (11). Various interests from reading, crafts, walking, cycling and volunteering. Let’s hope 2021 brings greater joy. Take care over there.
Response from Wyandotte made on 26th Dec 2020 22:20:48
Hello Kris.

I'm assuming your NonnieK must be the name you are called by the grandchildren. I also live in New Mexico but I'm in Las Cruces. I just moved here 3 years ago. I also describe myself and an introvert but even introverts need some human contact. I have not really been anywhere since March. I order everything on line. I'm not really much of a traveler but I have two girlfriends that drag me all over. I do love genealogy and have ancestors from Scotland so could probably be talked into a trip there. Ha. I admire you for sharing your home with your daughter and grandchildren. I enjoy seeing them but I think I'm too set in my ways to share my home with anyone, family, friends or spouse on a full-time basis I'm sorry to say. That being said I do cherish my friends but they are all back in Kansas City where I am from. It isn't easy building new friendships at 68. Stay safe

I would love to correspond with people anywhere in the world. I currently live in New Mexico. I'm 68, retired and am feeling completed isolated during this time of COVID. I am the mother of 3 and grandmother to 4 all of whom are adults. I grew up in the Kansas City area and retired as a Pre-Sentence Investigator with the district courts. I enjoy genealogy, gardening, reading, walking, water aerobics and I binge watching Netflix and Amazon specials. Would enjoy learning about your life.
