When dining out, is it okay for your friend/partner to dig into your plate of food?

I was invited to lunch by a male friend, not a boyfriend and we ordered from the menu. I ordered lamb noisette and had just started to eat, when he wanted a bit of lamb on my plate and proceeded to take a bit with his fork. I was quite surprised and quite upset. He thought it was okay to share from each others plates, but I think it is a horrible habit. Maybe I am a little uptight about not sharing my meal unless it is a sharing platter or at least offered by me. Needless to say, I won't be accepting any more invitations from him. Am I uptight?

I think that I would have been horrified as well WhiteCrow! I have been known to pinch a chip from my daughters' plates - at home, but would never do so in a restaurant.

I see in many romantic movies that they seem to feed each other like birds feeding their young, and lost in a haze of blissful love, they dig into each others plates of food.
Maybe my lunch date had seen far too many romantic movies is all I can say Carole.

Oh dear! He's going to be disappointed if he asks you out again ......... unless you choose something that you know he won't like 🙂

It is an expression derived from Shaw's Pygmalion play of 1913,
a humerous way of saying "not bl**dy likely." Carole.
