I want to plan a one month (about), DIY tour of North India taking in the 'must do' tourist places but not concentrating on them. Instead trying to find places tourists don't usually visit which give a taste of local life. Staying out of 4 star accommodation but not going to extremes. Train or internal flight travel pre-booked or 'on the fly'.

Areas of interest are those between Varanasi and Delhi. Flying in to Mumbai and out from Delhi in February 2018.

Have travelled the world widely with a number of buddies and had some great times so looking for another retired active, adventurous self reliant person to share this trip.

Has anyone been on single traveller on Leger or Shearings coach holidays what are your comments on your experiences
Response from CaroleAH made on 3rd Sep 2017 17:38:05
Hi Christiana,
I have travelled solo on three Shearings holidays and will soon be going with National Holidays. None of the holidays were exclusively for single travellers but I was fortunate to make friends with other travellers and we met up at meal times or in the bar - there was always someone to talk to if I wanted company. I have always booked early with Shearings because, according to their reservations department, they are only allocated a few single rooms for each trip. Once they have been booked, the holiday suddenly becomes "unavailable" when you enter single traveller. The bedrooms are usually adequate, more often than not, they have a view of the car park or something similar but I only sleep in mine so it doesn't matter. 🙂 I went on a Rhine cruise a couple of years ago and that was great. I've also been to the Edinburgh tattoo and Austria. I have to admit that I found the length of time travelling to Germany and Austria tedious - usually four full days altogether (travelling from Yorkshire) there and back so take that into account when you book your holiday. Hope you have a good trip!

Thanks for info I've travelled with Alpha Coaches booking a single room at the Queens Hotel in Eastbourne which was very nice- they put all ladies who were on their own on same table for meals so we could mingle I've met some lovely ladies and we still keep in contact
Response from CaroleAH made on 3rd Sep 2017 18:02:48
Hi Christiana,
Yes, Shearings did that for meals when I went to Scotland and then on the Rhine cruise I sat with a couple and their son from Bridlington and another couple form Bolton and we all got on really well together. I'm still in touch with a lady who went on the Austrian trip - twenty years ago - and we meet up for lunch every month!
Response from Christiana made on 4th Sep 2017 07:05:59
If some people who are going on extended holidays ie. for 1 month could other people not join them for maybe a week or longer in nearby accommodation-just a thought

Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I'm in my 60's, widowed and now retired. I'm looking for a travel companion/buddy who wants to spend 1 month of next winter in warmer climes. I don't mind if we get a small group together. Although I do think a maximum of 4 persons would work well. I don't need to go long haul, I'm just as happy in any of the Canary Islands or would consider other ideas. I live in Buckinghamshire, so please feel free to contact me.

Hi I am Ruth, 71 living in Brighton. Definitely want to spend at least a month in January/February out of England. Have thought of Saga but somehow baulk at the idea of one of their large hotels. I like to see places of interest but main motivation is warmer weather.
Response from Jacquiwren made on 2nd Sep 2017 23:25:02
I too would like to escape our dark winter skies and would be great to do it with like minded people. Am early sixties, love walking and local culture. Would be grateful if could let me have more details. Thanks.

Hello everyone.. just joined - I must admit, on a whim. But I have a dream - to travel (in my car) around every country in Europe, I make that about 45 countries, taking maybe 3 months. Staying in decent hotels and all that. But I'm looking for a like-minded travel companion - my lovely wife (who, unlike me, is still of working age) doesn't fancy the idea, and I'd rather not undertake all this alone. I'm in my 60s, going on 50!
Response from lindak20599 made on 2nd Sep 2017 04:48:47
New to the site. Left a personal message but not sure how to monitor it so pardon if I'm being redundant. Will be in Italy, France, and Spain the entire month of October. Traveling via train from Rome, to Florence, Venice, Milan, Paris and Barcelona. If you don't find a car companion, perhaps we could meet somewheres for museum, art, architecture touring, dining, or perhaps the can-can show in Montmartre.

I really want to go to India and travel on their railways to get about. I don't want to go on my own and have thought about volunteering in Delhi (access to the Toy Train to Simla!) but again, on my own, am not sure about that either. If anyone has similar thoughts perhaps we could get together and talk it through. I am 73 next Sunday, a grandmother to four, but still with a long bucket list I live in Devon but am happy to travel to talk! If I hear from anyone I will pass on my email....!!

Hi, I'm 64, newly retired teacher. My husband is much older and can't do heat. I would love a like minded travelling companion. India sounds exciting. I'm going to Crete alone for 2-weeks in September and then hope to gain a place to study for my MA at Exeter

Hi i have been to Kerala, but the train trip sounds great,i may be interested as long as it is during our winter,Please get in touch no 07963612487.

Hello there, I would like to go away for a few weeks during the winter. Having seen a programme called the Real Marigold Hotel on TV I quite fancy the idea of having a base somewhere like Jaipur and taking train trips from there. Kerala also sounds very appealing. I am nearly 72, fit but not with the stamina needed to go on a holiday where you start early every day. I live in Hove.

Hi, my name is Gary, I'm a fit, straight, 67 year old and have lived in Melbourne Australia for the last 32 yrs. I emigrated from Christchurch in Dorset. I have spent many years traveling the world as a solo traveler. I am easy going, like beach and culture and good wine and food. I know it's a long way off but I am touring France for three weeks in August 2018 by car and Spain for four weeks in September by car. If anyone, male or female, is interested I will email you my proposed itinerary and you can decide if you would like to share all or part of my journey. I intend to use Airb&b as a I travel where there are plenty of two bedroom homes and apartments to rent.
Response from Tootsy made on 12th Aug 2017 21:29:43
HI Gary. I live in France near the border with Geneva, 80 kms from Chamonix. If you plan to come to this part of France let me know and I'll show you around Geneva. I plan to go to Australia in 2019 so you could return the favour in Melbourne!

I am a 51 year old wan who has just come off a wdeks cruising holiday with her sister but don't want to be depending on my sister all time as it's expensive to go away with me and then her husband.I like travel to nice locations but not teLly into placed such as Thailand or very long haul flights somewhere you can be i.I'm about no longer than t hpurs.we like to do another cruise at some stage but don't jave anything planned at minute.I'm not rich so it takes time to Dave but we just like to know when somethi gs in place I'd have someone decent and trustworthy to go with.don't really mind if my travel companion is male or female though from a practical point of view female might be more suited when it comes to acvomodation.but either good.alsoust be within travel distance to me I'm fr Belfast so no point if they aren't within driving distance though I don't drive.so would have to be them well I guess that's all for now
