Hi, I'm joining Slimming World this week and I'm just wondering if there are any members here and if so do you have any tips and advice please?

I did try slimming world for a month. I lost about 10 lbs but struggled with my IBS because of the fibre content. My consultant juggled it around but unlike lots of people a lot of fruit and vegs does not really help me, I needed more wholemeal bread and cereals and got fed up with counting them as syns. Other people without my problem could sail through and use their syns for chocolate and other luxuries. To be honest I felt as if I was still having to count in the same way as a usual calorie controlled diet. I always cook by scratch in any case.
I got discouraged by how many years that people were still attending, some would moan about putting on half a pound because they went out for lunch in the week, they maybe were a size 8 after losing a couple of stones, (good for them of course) but others who might have just joined looked a bit disgruntled at them because they might have 10 stones or so to lose.
My daughters' joined with me, one is lazy with cooking from scratch and it really helped her to adopt new habits and lost 10 lbs too, but the other daughter was more than a bit miffed at having to count avacado as a syn yet be allowed to eat a whole tin of spaghetti hoops for lunch..
I think that there are people who have done really well with slimming clubs on the whole by sticking to the plan, which is not too difficult , but for me I had to drop it and just cut down on other things such as wine and weekend take a ways . We are all different after all.

I've had weight issues for as long as I can remember but SW has been so easy and I have changed my outlook on food. The soups are a brilliant standby always make loads and keep dome in the fridge for when you start searching for something tasty and now. The tomatoe soup with the pickled onion is a good match for Heinz and any veg in the blender with chicken stock and some herbs or spices never fail. When cooking make loads and freeze - chilli, curry etc cook up loads of pasta and freeze in portion bags always ready to put in boiling water and meal ready. Good luck. I have a glass of wine EVERY evening and a two finger kitkat x

Thanks for your tip regarding the freezing of pasta. I never thought it could be done. I particularly like the SW Bolognese recipe. Very tasty. I also cook large amounts and freeze them for later use.

I belong to my local Slimming World group and I love it. Everyone is so friendly and the leaders are very well trained and there are no deprecating remarks. Your weight is never discussed in the meetings following the 'weigh-ins' just how much is lost!
I have been a member since mid March and so far I have lost nearly 1 1/2 stone. The diet plan is generous and easy to follow. You will love it!

I lost 5 stone with Slimming World, and thoroughly recommend it. One of the key factors is staying to Image Therapy. Those who don't find the journey hard, and tend to lose less weight. The groups are fun and there's lots of support on line! Good luck!

Wow, well done on your weight loss,I will definitely stay for the whole class as I don't see the point of paying and not staying,I have done Weight Watchers in the past and always stayed for the talk as I found it motivated me,I had heard the Slimming world was a simpler plan so thought I would give it a go
My main problem after losing weight is keeping it off,it's only 1 stone but at only 5ft tall it's too much,I just need remotivating

You can do it! Remember it is a life change, learn to love the experience. I lost weight with WW a number of years ago, sadly it returned plus more! There are many inspirational target membersin my group to spur me on!

It is a fairly easy system to follow. I bought a couple of the recipe books which have proved very useful. If you are in a hurry, just cook loads of roasted vegetables as they recommend and sprinkle with spicy seasoning, fabulous! Good luck.

I agree, the yoghurt and fruit is also a winner!
I always save a few syns for the evening, the rocky road bars from the group are wonderful for this, but can also be used as a healthy B choice (for 2)!!

My partner and I both go to Slimming Word between us we've lost 5 1/2 stone although for now I've stopped going as I've just had an op, its easy to do just stick to the amount of milk allowed and your bread or cereal and you won't go wrong no counting only a small amount of weighing it really is a very easy diet to follow, good luck x

It is excellent I lost 4 stone. You need to get used to the plan and use your consultant to get you in the right habits. It can be difficult at the start but give yourself time to get accustomed to ITT.
