Single room supplements
Watch this postI have just returned from a holiday for which I had to pay a supplement because I was a solo traveller. Was I in a double or twin room which might have justified the supplement? No - I was in a single room which could never have been made into a double unless it had had bunk beds 🙂 with a view of the car-park and bins! I have also been on a river cruise in a tiny cabin which, like my room described above, could only have been a double with the addition of bunk beds! How can travel companies justify charging extra for rooms/cabins like this? As I said at the start of my rant (!) if I had been in a double or twin room then perhaps the supplement is justified because the hotel or cruise line are losing the extra revenue from another mouth to feed or drinks in the bar etc but charging extra for a single room is discriminatory. I know that there are companies who cater for solo travellers and they say that they do not charge single supplements but if you compare their holiday prices with similar companies, they have actually just included the single supplement in their advertised charge!

I have paid a £100 supplement for a Shearings Northumberland 5 day holiday. Imagine how I felt sat next to a married couple who do not have to pay that extra. I can tell you the shine goes right off the experience.
I used to go away virtually every month so a travel company was getting good value from me but I have got to the point where I just don't want to travel anymore because of this blatant rip off
