Hi, I joined a few months ago but just plucked up courage to leave a message. I’m 69 and was widowed just over 2 years ago. I am just about ready to be get back into the swing of being social!! It’s been a hard slog as some of you will already know. I’m finding that people I thought of as friends are no longer around so feeling bored and lonely. As the dark nights are drawing in would love to be able to chat to someone or even meet up to stop me going mad. Anybody out there feeling the same?
Response from CatherineT7 made on 28th Oct 2022 17:13:50
Hi Tress, I'm 56 and recently separated from a complicated relationship so I want to stay on my own for a while - I'm finding things a bit hard too, especially as I have almost no family.
Most of my friends have large families with grand-children or elderly parents to look after etc and they are all extremely busy. I have a daughter who loves to travel and she just moved to Switzerland with her boyfriend. I'm very happy for them but I feel a bit lonely too.
I'm not complaining because it's better to have nice (busy) friends that you see once in a while rather than none at all, but this means I'm often on my own at the weekend.
And sometimes you feel like chatting but you don't really feel like going out (especially after work in the evening when it's dark, cold and wet outside)
I live in Belgium but I come to Lincoln twice a year to visit my elderly aunt.
I'd love to chat with you if you're up to it !
I run and read and I'm interested in psychology, and the news. I try to go to the cinema at least twice a month (and I watch series' on Netflix). What about you ?
Response from CatherineT7 made on 28th Oct 2022 17:17:27
Hi Tress I'm hopeless with this - I wrote you a long reply and then clicked on "add comment" and it seems to have disappeared. Just checking that you received it, If not, I will write it all over again !
Anyway this has just given us a first subject of conversation: "aren't computers irritating"
Hoping to hear from you,
Catherine

Been into site allocated to my postcode...saw a couple of messages and added my own - came out of it then went back in to find the message:
"Recent Community Post Most Recent | Most Popular
Sorry, we couldn't find any results!"

Others appear to have had similar problem - and assumed finally no-one else lives in Suffolk!
Valla had suggested we could be allocated via country rather than a local town...in hope would help.

Hi, I’m retired now a full year. What do I do now? During the pandemic and due to some health issues, I sort of found an emotional cave to shelter within, being very isolated. I’m doing better now, finding projects around my home, again. But, seem to be having trouble re-defining myself as an older, non-working adult. I don’t seem to be able to find “my tribe”. Any thought?

Hello
I’m a new member. I live in Inverness and am not working. I’m hoping to find new friends to chat to.

I’m 65, live with a slightly bonkers collie (aren’t all collies slightly bonkers?) and have a “home-made” campervan which I should make more use of, especially as I am lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of the world.

This looks like a really good site for developing new interests; I’m hopeful that one day I’ll be able to finish a watercolour that won’t end up in the bin!

Hello Sally. I don’t know my way around, so would like a bit of info, please. For example, how do I know if someone sends me a comment/message? I “discovered” your reply purely by chance.
Thank you for any help.
Response from SarahS2 made on 5th Sep 2022 12:13:58
Hi Anne from beautiful Inverness! I grew up in Prthsire and visited Inverness several times, a beautiful place. I've also started dabbling in watercolours - I posted my first effort on another site and everyone was really sweet about it. The best comment was "I love your energy" LOL Thing is, whatever you create, be it a story, a poem, knitting, a painting etc, never ever throw it away! YOU created it and that makes it worthy of being. It's really good to compare first efforts of anything because it shows how much you have improved! Please don't bin anything you create (unless it's a recipe that went horribly wrong lol).

Chat soon I hope and meanwhile, take care''Sara x ,
Response from 57Anne made on 8th Sep 2022 10:51:00 > @SarahS2
Hello Sara,

I’m sorry it’s taken me a wee while to reply, but your message arrived by email. I don’t check my emails daily & was surprised to “see you” there. A very nice surprise, though. I didn’t realise that these messages used our email addresses.

You say that you grew up in Perthshire; where are you now? Years ago a friend of mine lived in a tiny hamlet near to Loch Tay (could see it from her kitchen window). The nearest town was Aberfeldy. As a 19/20year old, it seemed to me like she was in a living in the middle of nowhere, having no “proper town” nearby, with nightclubs & lots of people. But that was my young townie self. Even then, though, I could appreciate how beautiful the landscape was. I’m originally from the West Midlands, so I was more familiar with pollution than pollen!

Over the summer I’ve been doing more with glass and have forgone the watercolour. I’m determined to get back to it. There’s a wee glass session on for a couple of hours each week, but it coincides with the “OpenArts” times. Typical! Nothing for years then both together - like buses, eh? But great that there’s choice. So for now I’m aiming to be another Tiffany or even Lalique, then in a couple of weeks...ha! I managed to make a very crude boat from 3 triangles of coloured glass. I’m wanting sun-catchers to put up at the window. A juvenile woodpecker flew into the bedroom window and stunned itself. I got the SSPCA out to see it - it sat for an hour. It was visibly uninjured but I don’t want birds hurting themselves if I can do something to avoid it.

Hope to chat to you soon; it was very nice to get your message.

Best wishes,
Anne
