Greetings all - I've just joined and would like to introduce myself. I leave in Surrey (Nr Guildford) and work in Finance in the city of London. Hello to all you good folks! I enjoy meeting and chatting so is there anyone out there?

I don't know if you are male of female, but if you are female you might like to join your local Wi, or join your local ramblers group. I am a member of both and enjoy meeting and chatting to different people.

Well I left Cornwall and with my Granddaughter on her GAP year we visited France and Spain for almost a year. It was very interesting I loved all the Palaces and especially the Alhambra in Grenada and Versailles which is stunning. We also stayed in mountain villages in France and Spain and probably every museum in both countries. We met lovely people some of whom were extraordinarily kind and friendly to us. I wish I had gone back to Cornwall but went to see Wales which was lovely also, but I didn't get to Scotland which is really on my wish list.I would love to stay on one of the Islands up there. My Granddaughter had to get back to Uni and I made a bad mistake. My Parents were both born in Southern Ireland, and i had been there when i was younger so I decided to visit the place of my ancestors - Kilkenny and Kells. it turned into more than a holiday and I went through a difficult purchase of a lovely apartment overlooking Dungarvan bay and surrounding mountains. It is a very beautiful view, and I have enjoyed seeing the lovely boats that are moored up, so very pretty. The town is a very lovely place, reminds me of a french town. Everything on a square, and property painted in pretty pastel colours. Irish people are friendly and easy to talk to.However, I didnt realise how much i would miss my friends in Cornwall, and also my friends and family in London. My Granddaughter and a friend visited, and also one of my Grandsons but they all love the sun so they are usually in France and other places in Europe and beyond. I am not such a sun worshipper having lived in Cornwall for many years I am used to gales, wild seas, as well as some lovely sunny days, but nothing like the heat of parts of Europe and the longer I have been here the more I yearn to go back to Wild Cornwall. So sadly I have decided now that I am pretty old it is time to go back before I may get less mobile and also to be able to see friends and family more often. I live here in an apartment, and although it is beautiful with a verandah overlooking the wonderful scenery, I have only seen one or two people whilst coming into the entrance to get the lift. When i lived in Cornwall i had a lovely cottage in a small village and it did take time for the Cornish to speak to me, but once I got my beautiful spaniel I met them in the fields walking their dogs and I ended up with lots of friends, and also there was a lovely "happy clappy" Christian group who were fabulous and very friendly. Dogs definitely are an asset if you do not know anyone as dog owners are always ready talk to each other. I know there are one or two people in the apartments who have little dogs, but most people do not. It is very peaceful, however I will be getting a dog as soon as I get a place to live in Cornwall. I would advise you to join a group, or be a volunteer in a Charity shop, i did that in Penzance met lots of people. You dont say where you are but if it is near a town there should be charity shops. RSPCA people need pet lovers to help out in their centres. I started doing car boots with a lady in the village it was really good fun and we made money for the Air Ambulance people. I have found out the hard way, that nobody is going to come knocking on your door you must get out of the house and then you will meet some very nice folk. hello I am just trying to find my way around and so found this page which seems to be a good place to start. I left the UK two years ago and came to live in the land of my ancestors EIRE. The weather is a bit of a non event unless one likes rain. i wont go into the negatives, but suffice to say I am intending to sell up and return to the love of my life - Cornwall. It has been interesting watching the UK as a foreign country, and not a particularly liked neighbour. My ancestors were all born in EIRE and as a child i used to visit my grandparents in Kilkenny, which i thought was heaven on earth. I was born just as UK entered into war with Germany, not a good time, living with the sounds of artillery guns which were just one road away, the door knocker was knocking on its own from the huge guns firing and the bombs dropping, who in their right mind would bring children into a world at war. Of course, i was told by my Irish Mother that everybody thought it would all be over in a few months!!! Thank God my children did not have to go through that. My sister was left in Eire with our grandparents and so she didnt know about war until she was almost five when our Mother took me to collect her. This funny little kid with a funny accent and the life of freedom, happy days running through the fields and sometimes going with granny at the crack of dawn to pick mushrooms to add to the breakfast. Our Mother and Father were totally wrong for each other so not only did I have the noise of warfare from outside but there was a war going on inside the house so my poor little sister did not know that she was leaving heaven and entering hell on earth. I lost my darling kind sweet sister this year, she was living in Spain so when i got the call from my niece I had to rush to London to get the euro to France and then train to Alicante and taxi to the hospital (I have a dreadful problem about air travel, which was not helped when I was 17 and my very beautiful cousin who was so lovely had been picked to represent Eire in the Miss World contest but the day she had to go to Dublin was a day she had to work so she asked a friend to swap her shift, and unfortunately the plane took off from Cork but went down into the sea off the coast of Wales, nobody ever knew what happened. it affected me badly later in life when I did have to travel by plane and I hated every second and only ever got into a plane if it was an emergency but even then it was hard so when i got the call to go to Spain i chose to go by rail which was not a comfortable experience as the French train to Alicante was the most uncomfortable I have ever known before or since.

Totally understand. Retired 2 years ago. Spend most days by myself. None of my friends are retired. Would like to chat.

I am new the site as well. I am 73 this year and I am married now for 40 years with a wonderful hubby, no children but two adorable cats called Raffles and Rosie. I live in Surrey. I am quite happy to chat with anyone as and when I can get online and not doing other things.

I'm new here. I joined silver surfers to check up offers and such so am pleasantly surprised to find you also run a chat forum, so that's a happy plus! I may not always be able to come on here but I will be popping in and if inspired to write I will. I also joined an organisation called Meetups which is inspired for anyone that has interests they'd like to pursue I would recommend it. I like to chat and enjoy doing art, watching films and documentaries, and read avidly too. I'm 58 years old and have one adult son of 37, who lives a few bus stops away from me here in Chalk Farm, London.

Hi, just introducing myself as I am new on here. Would like to make new friends for chatting. I have recently retired and now look after my 3 1/2 year old grandson during the week. Thought I should find some adults to chat too before I get completely taken over by Blaze and the Paw Patrol. I have a son who lives in Cambridgeshire with his family and a daughter who has just settled in Scotland after her husband has just completed his stint in the army. I myself live in Cambridgeshire with my husband who has had to retire early due to ill health.

I am Kaz, 58 years old, live alone in a large 4 bed house in rural west Lancashire, close to Southport.
I enjoy cooking, driving, travel, swimming, internet, art, electronic art, writing, poetry, home making, astrology, metaphysics, paranormal, web design, painting, good conversation, philosophy, state specific science, social networking, entertaining, acting, country pubs, exploring places, music, singing to name but a few interests.
I am easy going, great sense of humour, full of fun, very much a people person.
I work from home as a telephone life coach, and I am looking for new friends, and thinking about looking for a better area to live in where there are more things I can get into and get a new life, and some company, there is nothing local to me where someone my age can meet people to share quality time with etc.

I have lived here in a village in North Yorkshire and I know nobody apart from my next door neighbour. Moved here because of my husbands job. Just me and the cat during the day can be very depressing!
