Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Fortunately, my senses returned before the Medicare enrollment period ended and hopefully made a good decision.
My reason for joining this forum is to make new friends and share stories about transitioning into retirement. I'm not out of the woods and have to return to the workforce to supplement my Social Security. Like many, I did not plan accurately but it is what it is.
I've remained single for 17 years, live in an overpriced apartment and have a beautiful long haired Calico cat named Stevie Nicks who has been my roommate for the past 10 years. I am a musician as a hobby and play all instrument but wind. Just don't have the breathing abilities. I previously worked in the IT field as a Business Analyst and was laid off 3 years ago. The company has since evaporated so the writing was already on the walls.
While 65 is simply a number, so much changed when I hit that mile marker and the transition has not been easy. I've not ruled out meeting a significant other but that's not why I'm here. I'm simply looking for some "cyber-companionship" as I maneuver through more retirement successes and obstacles.
As Celtswitch said in their post, I will pop in regularly to see what's going on! Please have patience, I'm new to chat and posting on forums but am a quick learner, uhm if I recall! LOL!
Peace and Blessings to all!

Welcome to this forum.
I lost my partner 18 months ago and know how extremely difficult it is to cope with the loss of a loved one.
If you want to converse on private chat, I look forward to hearing from you.
John.
The Norwegian Fjords are on my bucket list - do let us all know how you get on. I wonder if you will be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights - it must be a spectacular sight. Hope you enjoy contributing to the Forum - there are many topics which you might find interesting and, of course, you can always start one of your own and invite comments from other Silversurfers. 🙂
