Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Howdy from Texas! My name is John and I recently hit the 65 year milestone. It's been a crazy year for me after the loss of a very close cousin a week before Christmas and my world was turned upside down while supplemental insurance providers were slamming with their offers.

Fortunately, my senses returned before the Medicare enrollment period ended and hopefully made a good decision.

My reason for joining this forum is to make new friends and share stories about transitioning into retirement. I'm not out of the woods and have to return to the workforce to supplement my Social Security. Like many, I did not plan accurately but it is what it is.

I've remained single for 17 years, live in an overpriced apartment and have a beautiful long haired Calico cat named Stevie Nicks who has been my roommate for the past 10 years. I am a musician as a hobby and play all instrument but wind. Just don't have the breathing abilities. I previously worked in the IT field as a Business Analyst and was laid off 3 years ago. The company has since evaporated so the writing was already on the walls.

While 65 is simply a number, so much changed when I hit that mile marker and the transition has not been easy. I've not ruled out meeting a significant other but that's not why I'm here. I'm simply looking for some "cyber-companionship" as I maneuver through more retirement successes and obstacles.

As Celtswitch said in their post, I will pop in regularly to see what's going on! Please have patience, I'm new to chat and posting on forums but am a quick learner, uhm if I recall! LOL!

Peace and Blessings to all!

Isolating Circumstances adding to loneliness even depression. Apparently this subject is all too common in our world of living human beings now-a days. Why is this happening.?
I place myself under 'above conditions'
Choices available--:-21 Direct Descendants all Australian Residents.
My Abode is Scotland. Now reaching 90yrs & reasonably decent health.
seriously considering 'returning' to Australia--Citizenship O.K>
My Husband & I arrived there in S.A. back in 1964 with our Five School--aged Children now all grown Adults with Gr-children.
Returning home to Scotland 10yrs ago.
But time is running out now being almost 90yrs.
Upheaval has been a constant experience thru-out my married life.
Probably much more 'scared' now of this time around.
Family members there aren't keen ot see us returning--reasons being variable.
Now realising with Supporting Company this upheaval would be very much easier to cope with emotionally.
Anyone interested in replying would be appreciated. Thanks for taking an interest in my present dilemma.

All us oldies need friends one way or another. Sad to see so many people over 70 on there own. Think this site could be a must for people who live alone and not yet confirmed to coach holidays. I'm 68 fit and active. Found oversea holidays 2-3 times a year whist I can.
And I will look at any suggestions to holidays to anywhere. Just must be sunny

I live in Hong Kong.
If anyone visits-let me know.
Thanks.
Response from Beerbill made on 25th Sep 2017 22:34:27
Oh you must be joking, I just joined today because I'm looking for a travel partner for late 2018 to Hong Kong. I have so many questions and no one to ask. I'm doing the setup and booking myself, I know this is around the right time to visit and the exchange rate is pretty good right now but that's about all I know.If you would mind chatting let me know.

Hi te-cuma

Welcome to this forum.

I lost my partner 18 months ago and know how extremely difficult it is to cope with the loss of a loved one.
If you want to converse on private chat, I look forward to hearing from you.

John.

Hi Woottonm,
The Norwegian Fjords are on my bucket list - do let us all know how you get on. I wonder if you will be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights - it must be a spectacular sight. Hope you enjoy contributing to the Forum - there are many topics which you might find interesting and, of course, you can always start one of your own and invite comments from other Silversurfers. 🙂

Chin up soldierbloo, embrace the time with your son, I haven`t seen my youngest son for 4 years now, his choice, but I still think about him everyday, its heartbreaking but I have to put up with it. I live in hope every day that he will contact me. At the moment he has ignored all my attempts to contact him, but hopefully one day he will. Keep smiling.

Hi this is the scary bit, what do I put? I am a single man 56 years old, solvent and happy, retired civil servant but now currently working in the local community taking children to and from school which I enjoy immensely. The bonus is I get all the school holidays off as well. I have 2 grown up children (boys) who I see very little of these days as they are busy with their own lives. I have a love of motorcycling and belong to a couple of clubs, I am not a speed freak and enjoy the more sedate side of riding these days. Get in touch if you want to chat or find out more. Thank you for reading my post.
