Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hello All, This is my first time to post anything. I live in the east central Illinois area. I am 69 and retired in 2009. I enjoy fishing, going for drives, watching old movies on tv in front of the fireplace with a bowl of salted and generously buttered popcorn. I like technology when I can understand it. I enjoy photography.

Just joined. Not sure about this whole deal but worth a chance. I live in the Bay Area and am fast approaching 67. I have been a widow for 5 years and had no desire to get together with a man again. Just wondering what's out there for friendship. Any takers?
Response from HeyKC made on 3rd Dec 2017 04:23:13
I am not interested in any bi-relationships either. Just saying......

Hi Surfers. I just stumbled on this site and thought I'd say hi. Located in Northeast USA.
Response from CaroleAH made on 22nd Nov 2017 22:53:13
Hi Dianne,
Welcome to Silversurfers! Hope you finds lots of interesting topics on the site - and, if you don't, you can always post some of your own. We are a friendly bunch - some people seem to be on the site daily, others dip in and out as the fancy takes them. Whereabouts in America do you live? I live in Yorkshire, which is the largest county in England and is known, by its inhabitants, as God's own county because it is so diverse and beautiful. 🙂

Sounds like a lovely spot you have there. I'm in Vermont, which is a small state in New England, but also very pretty. Lots of mountains and wildlife to enjoy.

Hello. I'm doing my family tree and my great aunt married an American from Vermont. They lived in Mount Holly. Major Julian Aaron Cook (of A Bridge too Far fame) was their son.

Hi I am Edith and this is my husband John We have been together for 47 years and are still happily married. I worked in Banks for the majority of my life and have had lots of jobs after being made redundant. I celebrated my 69th birthday in October and haven't worked since 2012. My favourite pastime is cycling which I have done for many years and I don't mind knitting, sewing, and a bit of gardening.John is still working and is a local parish and county councillor in Durham. To be honest I really miss going out to work for the company of other people, and do a bit of volunteering occasionally.I would love to make some new friendships both near or far away from where I live. Its easy to feel isolated once you finish work as you don't have the same contact any more with people. Willing to chat anytime

Welcome Edith. I know the feeling. I was 68 in September. Still do a bit of led lighting import
But! Got fed up of watching TV I took up darts against after 10 years of playing 3 nights a week. Now I play just 2 and have made loads of new friend's. Even took up golf 1 day a week.Get out and abought
Response from EdithT made on 1st Nov 2017 16:05:39
Hi DavidV3 this feels good already, a response in a very short time I am actually feeling a lot more positive about things again as I only joined Facebook last month and already I've been able to find people I haven't seen for such a long time. It feels like I belong to something again. I know what you mean about joining in with things which is good but I don't want to commit every few nights a week as I love to be spontaneous and John is so committed with his job that I need to be able to go with him as and when he has the free time. Not sure what the led import is about just know they are lights. Excuse my ignorance
