Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hi , New today. Live in the south east. Looking for sociable, independent, curious travel companion male or female who has a good sense of humour and is easy going. I don't have kids/ grandchildren - am not a traditional, conventional family orientated person and am not lonely. Anyone out there?

Hello Angel9uk, it was rewarding, reading your message. I was working in Yorkshire, many moon's ago. It's good too know there is a musician in your family. I have over one hundred vinyl, fifties, sixties, and seventies album's, in my 1964 H.M.V, radiogram cabinet. Hope you can write again, sometime. Stay well and t.t.f.n.
Response from Angel9uk made on 10th Sep 2018 16:58:26
I wish I still had my radiogram!! I still play my vinyl and cassettes as well as cd's 🙂 my daughter is in a couple of bands. She sings and plays piano and violin. She used to play cornet in Gawthorpe Brass Band. I'm tone deaf so she doesn't get it from me hahaha.

Hi Pumpkin beetle, i was in booth hall hospital when i was a child. When i was about thirteen, boggart hole clough, was often my day out for fishing. In two thousand and six, i re-located from Stockport, where i had lived for forty three year's, to Anglesea , where i owned a holiday bungalow. For pratical reason's, i sold the bungalow and moved to my present home in Llandudno. I was working for Alcan Booth aluminium, in Rogerstone, in the seventies. It was a wonderful experience working and living with Welsh people. How is life for you in Swansea. t.t.f.n.

Hello everyone, i joined 31,8,18. I'm a proud Mancunian, but now i live in North Wales. I was attending night school, learning Welsh, until the class closed because of cut back's. My only friend at the moment, is my guitar, and i try to strum a few chord's most day's. I am able too pick all the major's and minor's with ease, but i am only able too type a message with one finger. For now it's good evening, and noswaith dda, everybody.

Hi everyone...just joined, cant find my way round the site yet. Originally from Glasgow, been south of the border for more than 40 years but still pop up. I have no family in Scotland now but I do like to visit the north. I have two grandchildren who live with me, one at Uni and one at College. I have two dogs, a Pomeranian and a Poodle, so I am kept busy. I have no idea how to get to the chat room...….I am technophobic!

Hi, are there any nice, genuine, happy, single, solvent gentlemen living within a reasonable distance to Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire who would enjoy company and friendship with a likeminded lady? I'm 67, semi-retired (hopefully fully retired soon!) independent, but fed up of being on my own. I enjoy travel, music, cinema, theatre, happy and willing to try new adventures.

Hi, just joined the group today and looking forward to chatting and hoping to make lots of new friends. I was born in 1950 so you can work out my age. Still working on a part time basis and love it as I meet lots of interesting people. I live in South Wales where we have beautiful beaches but too much rain. I love to socialise and am very young at heart. Interested in most topics and especially a good book with a glass of wine. Hope to hear from someone out there.

Well Hello folks, My names Richard, I'm 65 years young and a newby, so I hope you'll be gentle with me.

I live in Stoke-on-Trent (Although I'm from North London) with my wife Chris. I had a liver transplant almost two years ago, due to alcohol and liver cancer. I'm now in my third youth and fighting fit again. Out of totally respect to my liver donor, I am now raising awareness of Alcohol-related Liver Disease. This has been an uphill struggle as local MP's and council officials aren't interested in addressing this issue.

Over the three years from 2013 to 2015, 155 people in Stoke-on-Trent died from alcohol-specific causes, 110 men and 45 women. That’s an annual rate of 22.5 per 100,000 people, twice the national average rate of 11.5 per 100,000. In 2015/16 there were 2,494 hospital admissions for alcohol-related conditions, and still no one cares.

I've put together my own website in order to raise awareness of this problem: http://www.taep.co.uk/

Hopefully I can get to meet some equally mind people who I can get to know.
Response from CaroleAH made on 15th Aug 2018 22:59:28
Hi Richard,
Congratulations on your successful liver transplant and your quest to spread the word about alcohol- related liver disease. Are there any self-help groups in your area who would welcome a talk from you? I would find standing up in front of a group of people quite intimidating but a short talk followed by a question and answer session would set the ball rolling. You might be able to get a police-officer to come along as well to talk about the horrific effects of drink-driving.
Response from Kt60 made on 19th Aug 2018 10:14:24
Hi richard great that you were lucky enough to have a liver transplant, i have just lost my husband three weeks ago to alcohol related liver disease and liver cancer, he hadnt had a drink for four years but he couldnt have transplant as tumours too big. I agree with you though there should be more awareness about liver disease and what you are doing is commendable keep up the good work.

Hi everyone, I just joined today so I thought I would drop by and say hello. I have joined the site primarily to find like minded, young at heart travel buddies to explore both at home and the far flung corners of the world. Well I live in Derbyshire having moved here in 2013 for work and never left. Anyways hopefully will get the chance to chat with some of you soon. J x

Hi
I live in Cumbria and my husband has recently gone into a care home having had young onset Parkinsons disease for a long time. I am working full time in a hospital
Just want to say hello.

Hi Julie, I only joined on sunday
Response from CaroleAH made on 23rd Jul 2018 13:46:53
Hi Julie,
Welcome to Silversurfers - we are a friendly crowd and I'm sure that you will soon find your way around the site and join in with topics which interest you. Has it made it easier or harder for you now that your husband is in a Care Home? I realise that you won't have the day-to-day chores associated with caring for him at home but, having had both parents in Care Homes and juggling a full-time job with running a home as well, I know that it can be very difficult trying to prioritise the jobs which need to be done.
Response from SilverBlue made on 23rd Jul 2018 17:39:17
Hi Julie welcome to silver surfers I hope you enjoy the site, I was sorry to read that your husband has gone into a care home, it must have been a very hard decision to make. Not much time for you, juggling work and visiting.
Response from Young Mr Grace made on 29th Jul 2018 21:41:21
Hi Julie,
I had early onset PD diagnosed at the age of 47 & I am now nearly 70 & struggling to lead a decent quality of life.
I am sad to hear that hubby has gone into care. I can relate to your situation having deteriorated considerably since downsizing to a flat 3 years ago.

It would be helpful for me to bounce questions off of you if you feel able
I dread the thought of being parted from my wife of 47 years, but am still with it enough to realise the heavy burden o liife with me
best widhes
Response from JulieK7 made on 7th Aug 2018 20:27:51
Hi Young Mr Grace, you can ask me anything you like, I will private chat if you'd rather.
PD is an awful disease, my hubby became hyperanxious with it and that was the cause of a lot of his problems. hope you can manage in your flat.

Best wishes
