Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

I live in Stoke-on-Trent (Although I'm from North London) with my wife Chris. I had a liver transplant almost two years ago, due to alcohol and liver cancer. I'm now in my third youth and fighting fit again. Out of totally respect to my liver donor, I am now raising awareness of Alcohol-related Liver Disease. This has been an uphill struggle as local MP's and council officials aren't interested in addressing this issue.
Over the three years from 2013 to 2015, 155 people in Stoke-on-Trent died from alcohol-specific causes, 110 men and 45 women. That’s an annual rate of 22.5 per 100,000 people, twice the national average rate of 11.5 per 100,000. In 2015/16 there were 2,494 hospital admissions for alcohol-related conditions, and still no one cares.
I've put together my own website in order to raise awareness of this problem: http://www.taep.co.uk/
Hopefully I can get to meet some equally mind people who I can get to know.
Congratulations on your successful liver transplant and your quest to spread the word about alcohol- related liver disease. Are there any self-help groups in your area who would welcome a talk from you? I would find standing up in front of a group of people quite intimidating but a short talk followed by a question and answer session would set the ball rolling. You might be able to get a police-officer to come along as well to talk about the horrific effects of drink-driving.
Is there anyone out there in Surrey/London outskirts interested in forming a walking/travelling group.... Hope to hear from you. Beauty
