Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Love your reply.... Once you're down in the S.E. there's not too much further South to go, before the Channel. All the best to you for 2019. X

Hi everyone
I am a very keen painter. I love sketching and my New Year resolution is to try and sketch something everyday.
We have just has a very busy New Year so feeling a bit shattered but will get going on the resolution soon.
Any other members who love art? It would be good to swap hints, tips and so on.

Hi everyone. I have quite literally just joined as soon have no idea if I'm doing this correctly - nothing new in that! I'm 63, just semi retired and living in Buckinghamshire. I'd love to get to chat with people, assuming I can find my way back!
Response from Janb27 made on 1st Jan 2019 20:11:56
Hi, I am newish too, I haven’t really managed to find my way around. I thought it would be a good place to chat, but most of the post I come across are very old.

Anyone else out there alone for the first time on New Year's Eve. I've been with my family at Christmas but due to a recent fall can't travel to stay with anyone and am feeling weepy and lost.
Response from Janb27 made on 1st Jan 2019 20:15:39
I am not alone, but feel like I am. We are all expected to celebrate new year. I always find it a sad time when I reflect on the years I have wasted and the things I haven’t done. Do they have chat rooms in here? Would be good to get a nice cheery group chat going

Hi I’m Suzanne new to the forum.
I’m looking to make new friends as I have recently become single as my partner left one week before Christmas
This year has been tough and I look forward to the new year beginning
I live in Essex and work in London I’m 56 I have no children
Hope to hear from some new friends soon
Response from Beauty made on 27th Dec 2018 19:49:41
Hi SuzanneT1.
Sorry to hear about your 'loss'....because that's what it is.....except it's not recognised as a 'bereavement'. People just expect you to 'get over it', as you will, when you're ready...
Hope you receive supportive replies on here......When it happened to me.....my lovely Mum (long departed) indicated that I was worthy of better relationships......
Hope you can believe....
All the best 'Beauty'

Hi just started using this site again. I'm 66 have 2 grown-up sons a granddaughter and a grandson. I'm retired and remarried 4 years ago and very happy. We have recently bought a static caravan on North Wales coast. Somehow I feel something is missing or could it be Christmas blues

Just seen Bluebird's post.....Sadly, we don't always have the family we deserve -one way & another... Need to cut our parents and children loads of 'slack'....life isn't easy....and we all make loads of mistakes.
Merry Christmas everyone...

Hi there, just joined so thought I'd say hello! I live on the South Coast and having become single after a traumatic few years I have recently moved into a flat on my own. I work part time designing posters for musicians/theatres/events and creating greetings cards from my own photographs. I love hopping on the train to Brighton for a gig or theatre or popping on the bus for an outing but am just as happy staying home and watching Strictly with a friend! I enjoy gentle yoga ... Oh and I recently jumped out of a plane (attached to a parachutist!) to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Response from Dorsetlad made on 18th Dec 2018 09:30:36
Well done on the jump, mad but a great cause to do something like that. I am new here and looking to see what people do in their lives & that's a great start to read.
