Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Growing my own food is pleasant just before joining here I was shelling Barlotti beans in the sunshine although being fair skinned I am easily burnt.
Laughter would be nice as it is in short supply these days.
Thank you for getting this far and I hope to read about your hopes and dreams.
Welcome to all of us....Hope you can find some amenable travelling companions on here. Kind regards Beauty
Welcome to all of us across the pond & elsewhere. This small island is surrounded by water, this is why we're 'insular', we can't help it. Age is but a number, just think of the life you've enjoyed and how wise you are...and how much more fun there is out there...All the best Beauty.
I’m 55, married to the love of my life and have a large fur family. I’m retired with ill health, but take one day at a time.
I’ve several hobbies and interests, my main one being crafting. I’m one of those people, that like to try anything and everything.
I’m also an avid bookworm, my favourite authors being James Patterson, Val McDermid, Mary Higgins Clark, Agatha Christie, Patricia Cornwall, the list goes on lol.
Being at home most of the time, I tend to watch a lot of TV. Some of my favourites include Downton Abbey, 90 Days, Love Island and lots of crime stuff.
It’s going to sound pretty sad, but I don’t have any close family or friends, so decided to reach out, in an effort to change the situation. I’d love to hear from people all over, especially those that feel we have something in common
I think I’ll stop here and look forward to becoming a part of your community x
I'm also new on here, I live in the South Wales Valleys. I was widowed last year and like you I have no close friends as my husband and children were everything. I have two fur babies, an elderly Norweigian Forest cat and a Heinz 57.
I enjoy knitting and crochet and had decided to take up sewing just before my world turned upside down. I'm trying to sell up and downsize to Leicestershire atm. Not a lot of interest in the house though, unfortunately. When it does sell I'll be much closer to my eldest daughter and looking to make new friends and settle in.
I took early retirement on ill health grounds a few years ago and became a full time housewife until my occupational pension kicked in last year (just in time to rescue me from the benefits system). I've just had my first knee replaced and have been stuck in the house for six weeks as I'm not allowed to drive!
I'm interested in finding out about how this community works as my last experience of "chat rooms" was way back in the 90's.
Patricia
Are you near West Yorkshire.?
Regards
Gill
Recently joined, hoping to make new friends. I live in West Yorkshire and am 57. I was widowed 7 years ago, and although I have lovely friends they are all couples. I would love meet friends who would like to go on holiday, go out to the theatre, enjoy nights out and even a little shopping therapy.
I still work Part time in the NHS.
Derby shire area village gal see you hopefully
Welcome to the site.....You'll be fine....just don't want it too much...it's easy....Although often I question who'd want to be driving today....Fingers crossed for you ....Beauty
Enjoy a relaxing weekend !
