Just joined so I'm introducing myself.
Watch this postI will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.
I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?
I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!
I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?
I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

In the same boat as you.Retired from the railroad.Made good money back then. But the life style not so pretty.Didn't have time for the family. My son might, just might say hi in 3 months or more.He really doesn't want to have anything to do with me. The wife.Still married. But more or less just friends. Friends.Never really had none.Working for the railroad did that.Having wed. / thur. off working nights 33 years.Hard to make friends. Your home, their working.Kind of makes one say, wish i stayed in the navy. When I retired thought i do things i been wanting to do.Like metal detecting for one.Wellllll didn't work out. Soon as i retired, about a month later medical problems one after another.I agree with what ya say about family forget you.MIne forgot me when i went to work for the railroad. They don't look at this.A roof over your head, food in your belly, education, places they went etc.Yes it hard to wake up everyday & nothing to do & no one to talk to. I live in Louisiana,U.S.A. ,The southern part at the bottom.Grew up trapping, shrimp boats, oyster boats,& partying on weekends at the Honky Tonk bars.Came home out the Navy.Allllllllll gone.No one around. I use to speak the cajun french language. With no one around to talk to I lost all of it. Jobs wouldn't let you speak it. They hated it.The world changed for me.I said wish I'd stayed in the Navy.Problem there is,no good retirement.Have to be a Captain or better with 35 plus years to retire from them. Well i wrote a book. Due Take care now.Hope to chat more...

Would your wife let you travel on a Caribbean cruise with a female? Do you even want to cruise?
I am looking for a friend only to share a cabin with. It has to be Princess, but they have a lot of options. Most leave from FL but I have seen one or two from New Orleans. I am very new to this site - so I don't know how anyone connects.

Hope all is well with you!

Hope you’re having a great day! I’m on a bus trip today and looking forward to being out on this beautiful fall day! Sun is shining, 70 degrees and enjoying a day away!
Best to you!

Costs have restricted travel of late. Have visited a nephew and friends in Australia a few times and had a few holidays in France.
Enjoy time in the kitchen, although the effort for one and other distractions limits my creativity these days. During lockdown 1 over here we had a virtual bake off at work and have been baking flapjack regularly since. Usually it's a Victoria Sponge for my birthday cake.
I live on South Yorkshire ,,well, someone has to ,happily on the edge of Derbyshire ,,and with a strong wind , I can make Chatsworth Park in 20 mins and all those deer ,
I am looking for a travel companion, too. Specifically on Princess cruises before Dec 2024. I am an active 78 year old widow who loves to cruise, but I have one son and coordinating his schedule, his wife's, and son's school activities is difficult. I live in California, but can fly anywhere.
I don't know how to communicate - I guess thru this forum? I hope to hear from you if you are interested.
I'm new here, just signed up today.
I'm not retired yet, I have 4 more years till that. I'm looking to get connected before retirement. I work with individuals that are in recovery from addictions. Also very deeply connected with the neurodivergent community. Looking to see how to best help those that are in recovery and have an IDD.
Ask away I'll tell you.
Love to cook, read, crafts, time with family and friends, travel, music, movies and theater.
Looking forward to chatting.
Trish
