Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hello .I am Kate , I am 80 and live in Ulverston.I was widowed 10 years ago and although I live alone, I do have family living in the same town so I am very lucky. I have a friend who lives further north up the west coast who visits when he can but of course the visits are on hold until all this chaos has finally cleared away. I am able to take the familie's dog for walks which gets me outof the house ,and I do see my family ....at a distance.....!
I only have a small garden and I guess I am a bit of a learner at gardening! but I'm improving.
This is the first time I have posted, so I'm feeling my way a bit but will keep looking in.

Hello Kate-many of us Silversurfers get a lot of enjoyment walking our dogs. One of my daughters is cooped up in her London flat and she says that her dog relives all the tension and especially going out to walk him with some fresh air and exercise. Take care.

Hi

I'm Katherine, I early retired from teaching at 60 (I'm 64 now) but until all this hit, I was busier than ever. I volunteered at a local school, ran a Sunday School and did various other jobs at church, and have been running a large (1000 entries) local speech and drama festival, which couldn't have its grand finale, which would have been tomorrow. *Sob*

I'm setting up a virtual Sunday School, pacedly Spring-cleaning, sorting out and packing away the festival stuff, considering whether I will volunteer to still go the the school I volunteered at if they need an extra pair of hands. And if I get through all that, I will have no excuse not to start creating the website I keep being told I should set up!

Popping in here will definitely become one of my 'coffee break' treats.

Hello Celtwitch. I'm from the USA, Portland Oregon- is that allowed? I am so bored I googled "Senior Chat Rooms" and this came up. So you're an eccentric dog owner? Tell me about your dogs. I am, sadly, dog free at the moment. I usually am gone several evenings a week and travel a good bit. Of course those are all curtailed at the moment.

Who knows what life will become? It's truly frightening. I'm an RN and worked in communicable disease reporting for the health dept for 23 years before I retired. I can only imagine what the work scene must be like today.

What is life like in UK? Our stores and most businesses are open though with reduced hours and limited number of people. All restaurants here are open only for takeaway or delivery. Streets are quiet. I have not had TV in awhile but got hooked up with cable today. I can' t watch the news too much.

I have two kids who live on the east coast. I miss them but they're very successful so I'm happy for that. I usually visit them every few months. Who knows when that will happen again.

Write back if inclined. Sorry to hear you have spondylosis. My daughter in law's father has that and has more good days than bad, but still.

Take care, Adrianne

Hi, all! I’m newly joined. I’m 50 and living in Lancashire. I work from home and have family scattered across the UK. Little fed up with mainstream social media, so looking for a kinder and less aggressive chat platform with like-minded people.

Hi Everyone,
I’ve just joined.
I’m from Liverpool 66yrs old, divorced for many years now, I have two adult boys and a grandson but don’t see him.
My hobbies are reading, cinema, theatre, crime and forensic progs on tv.
Hope you make some chatty friends.
Response from silver san made on 23rd Jan 2020 21:48:55
Hi, I've just joined too.
I'm just 67 and also divorced many many years [ not against marriage, but never met the right man], I'm retired and like reading mostly crime and watching them on tv. I like gardening but as most of my ground is paved it is mostly containers. I have a daughter, two grandsons [both grown up] and became a great grandmother two weeks ago. I don't go to the cinema or theatre much as I am out of the city [Nottingham] and no one I know is really keen. I also do jigsaw puzzles in the winter as the days can be so long when I can't get in the garden. Hope you find some people on here to chat with - I'm hoping to.

Hi, I just joined today*** so a bit shy at first.
I live in the USA .....actually in Dallas,Texas. So I feel a little awkward at this point, but hopefully that will change.
I am a retired educator and having a bit of a struggle figuring out what I want to do for the rest of my life....... and yet still feeling like I am contributing to the world in a beneficial way.
Hopefully I can catch a few ideas from all you very smart people out there!
I exercise ( gym) everyday and made a decision to eat healthy many years ago.
Hope to hear back

G'day
Just joined want to say hello. Im 54 in couple of days I feel im coming to a crossroads in my life. I have a loving partner and a 2yr old son (Yeah I know i gotta be outta my mind) My other kids are adults 2 girls and a boy. Due to a whole lot of reasons Im starting to examine parts of my life.
The one thing that scares me is how reclusive I have become. so I guess the reason for joining this group is to try and meet/talk with other people and expand my friends network.

We live on a small 40acre property and breed horses. They take up so much of our time and its become very easy to just fob off people when the odd invite to socialise is extended.

So if you wanna chat sometime Im happy to.
