Just joined so I'm introducing myself.

I will be 67 next month and retired from the many different jobs in my working life. I guess that I didn’t ever find my calling. I went to university at age 59 but when it was over it was too late to launch a new career. I wanted to lecture but students don’t want to listen to old fogies, so sadly I put aside that idea and settled into life as an eccentric dog owner.

I live in a beautiful Lancashire valley surrounded by hills that demand they be walked/climbed, how could I refuse?

I would like to do a bit of cycle touring but a recent diagnosis of spondylosis and some hip pain means that I may not be doing a world tour anytime soon!

I’m keen to make some friends as I have been on my own for a very long time now, my daughters don’t bother much with me and I don’t have a partner.I didn’t expect to be so isolated at this time in my life, isn’t it strange the way family and friends seem to forget us when we get past 60?

I will pop in regularly and hope to strike up some friendships.

Hi,
I am also 67 and joined recently. I am a yorkshire lass still but have not lived there for many years and retired to Torquay in 2010 and never been so busy until lockdown. I was a nurse in Sheffield many years ago but moved around with my hubbys career so i have done various things over the years like yourself. helped a friend run a bookshop my last 7 years. Now do the books and music section at my local Hospice shop in Babbacombe, wonderful location overlooking the bay. Perfect. Also so aquafit for us ladies of a certain age, thankfully both activities have recently resumed. On the committee of The Local History Society and have 154 members though still waiting to resume the monthly meetings.
Have a daughter in Bristol who got married on 29th February so just made it, she would have been heartbroken to have cancelled after a year of planning .It was at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, their first wedding. Sadly the next 6 had to be cancelled. It was such a beautiful day and venue. Have a son in London who is loving lockdown as he now works from home and not using the tube for 7 months.
Hope you have a good week. Take care and stay safe.

Just joined. 67 married male, but my wife has no interest other than tv and granchildren.. Retired electric power technician. Electric meters was my field of work. I have two small farms, church work, and grandkids to keep me busy. I enjoy adult conversation on many subjects, especially history of early farm life and western America.

I've just now joined and a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. I'd like to communicate with others. I'm 74 and lost my spouse of 55 years in January of this year. Life becomes much different living alone after living nearly my entire life with my spouse.
Response from Seasidegirl made on 2nd Oct 2020 19:40:07
Hello 1965, I first joined a few years ago but never joined in as my husband was diagnosed with cancer and passed away last year...It was the first anniversary of losing him in March this year...
Then Lockdown started and I have had to readjust to everything...

It is so strange to live alone when you've been married for many years and I can truly identify with what you are experiencing...

Here you are! I've been having a hard time finding you. I asked admin for help and here you are. Anyway, I'm not sure where to start this conversation. I live in the states. I'm lonely most of the time and I'm considering "dating" however it's sure different from back in the 60's. After being married 55 years and now it's been nearly 9 months my true love has been gone, I'm thinking I need a man in my life. Not to marry but as a friend.
Response from islandPat made on 3rd Oct 2020 08:41:46 > @1965
Hello and welcome 1965. I'm Pat and I live in Cyprus.

Below Seaside girls post is a small box and it says Reply to Seasidegirl, put your curser and left click on that to open up the reply box as I have to you. 🙂

You'll soon get the hang of it. Look to your right and see a white arrow in a mid blue box, it's pointing to the left, if you hit that with your curser you'll find out if people have contacted you or people have added posts to ones you are interested in.

Hope you have happy and interesting time on here.

Best wishes

Pat

It isn't as simple as I thought it would be but yeah, I'll get the hang of it. I sure appreciate you giving me the help!
Response from Len45 made on 3rd Oct 2020 19:33:07
I'm not sure I'm doing things right on here, either, ,but I'll keep trying. I also lost my partner of 51 years just before Covid and I've found things really difficult since.
Response from 1965 made on 3rd Oct 2020 19:58:19 > @Len45
Me too Lena45. Guess I'm a slow learner. You and I sure do have the loss of our loved one in common. I miss him so much and I'd love keeping in touch with you. My Bob died just before Covid as well so not being able to communicate with others by means of hugs and in person has been awful. My husband was a wonderfully romantic person and we spoiled one another. It's been nearly 8 months since Bob passed and things have been really difficult just like you said.
Response from 1965 made on 3rd Oct 2020 19:59:46 > @Seasidegirl
Communication with others does help. I get so lonely doing everything alone.
Response from Len45 made on 3rd Oct 2020 22:28:27 > @1965
Youre right 1965, its a horrible empty feeling made worse by this Covid business. As a couple you knew you could handle it but alone it becomes such a task. I'm lucky my eldest girl and grandsons are only 15 miles away, but they are busy on the treadmill and its not the same as your own age group.
Response from 1965 made on 3rd Oct 2020 23:52:39 > @Len45
I'm glad to hear from you. I just wish we were closer together. My daughter lives 25 miles from me and my son is in Idaho. Monica works full time but tries hard to text or call me daily. Yes, the generations are much different. We oldies (I'm young spirited) need one another a lot.
Response from Dencor made on 15th Oct 2020 18:16:50 > @Seasidegirl
It is very strange trying to make life without a partner. My 46 years of marriage ended and I moved to a new country. It’s been a struggle. As you know your children are busy raising their children Being new to where I am now I haven’t made many friends, one really then with Covid 19 it makes life so much more difficult. I would love to chat with people to see if we can find similar things to enjoy together online.

Hi Cathy , Thank you for your reply .
I live in Hampshire about 12 miles away from Heathrow Airport .
Sadly I don't see my Great grandchildren very often as they live quite a distance away, I do have regular updates about them though via a website .
Regards June .

Thats a shame June, I am very fortunate my family all stay within walking distance so I see my grandchildren nearly every day

I am keen to meet others who enjoy socialising and would especially like a good friend/companion male or female for travelling and outings; I am early seventies, considered good company, and live in Norfolk.
Hope to hear from you

Hi everyone I am Caroline & this is the first time I've ever posted anything on a forum, so hopefully someone will see it ! I enjoy getting to know new people, love pets (have had a dog & several cats), in normal times I'd be eating out, going to the theatre, travelling but right now this seems to be a good way to have some fun and socialise.
Response from Jeannie19 made on 11th Sep 2020 23:38:31
Hi, just joined this group. I also like making new friends and also love animals. Our wee dog was put to sleep three years ago. Still miss him but love the freedom to (normally) get away for wee holidays at short notice. I also love the theatre, cinema and meeting up with friends for coffee etc. Would be good to make some new friends at this difficult time tho.
Response from Ollie3 made on 27th Sep 2020 16:35:00 > @Jeannie19
Hi Jeannie19 sounds like we have quite a bit in common. Sorry to hear about your dog, I was in the same situation, the house doesn't feel the same and of course since lockdown I've been going out for walks and seeing loads of dogs out enjoying themselves! I would love to give another rescue dog a home but have recently gone back to work so don't think it would be fair. My 2 cats are more than happy with their home life! Have you been away at all recently? I've resigned myself to being around for the rest of this year but am hoping to have a few days away with friends next may.

Hi, celtwitch
I have just joined myself and found read your post. My life could mirror some of you comments except that my age is 79 next birthday and I am not so active mobility wise.
I did my degree as a mature student and I have one daughter who I am in touch with but she works as does her husband and my grand daughter is at school. As they only have the weekend to be a family, I don’t like to intrude on their time.

I have been on my own since 2007 and my friends have partners and families that take up their time so I thought I would give this site s “go” and see what happens. I am not lonely but would like to make new friends.
