Introducing me
Watch this postHello everyone, I’m doing this the wrong way round, introducing myself after I have already replied to a post - never mind!
I shall be 75 this week, but find it hard to believe that I am that old. I live in Suffolk, and am retired from local government work and also caring for the elderly. I spend most of my time on my own, and am now getting quite used to it. This is a bit sad but I think is true for a lot of people at the moment. I have two children and a lovely granddaughter, all miles away, although I have seen gd this summer. Most of my time is taken up with watching t.v. and doing puzzles, and trying to have a bit of a sort-out of all my accumulated junk. I’m glad ‘vintage’ is all the rage.
Well, if anyone wants to have a chat, please feel free. Best wishes, Valla

Thank you for the birthday wishes - I note you’re only two years younger than me. I had a really nice birthday, going out for dinner, and cards and presents from everyone.
Lucky you, a grandchild. I have one granddaughter who is 19 and at uni. In Manchester, but she is the only one, and says (at present) she doesn’t want any children. So that’s that. Is your family all miles away, like mine? It makes me feel very isolated.
Hope you’ll keep up the posting. Best wishes,
Val
I put a post up here last week, but can't see it, so goodness knows where it's ended up -
I'm not very familiar with how it all works!
I live in East Anglia and am quite new to this part of the world, so just looking for new friends to chat to.
I spend a lot of time gardening during the warmer months, but of course that's on hold now until next spring. I'm now doing puzzles, also the odd jigsaw puzzle, crafting (trying!) and walking each day. It's so nice to be retired and to just do your own thing!
Have a lovely day.
I do a lot of puzzles, mostly Sudoko, and watch a lot of t.v. Been to a lot of Christmas fairs lately.
I’ll have a look for your post - must be somewhere!
Best wishes,
Val
Thanks for your reply. For some reason I didn't receive an email informing me I had a new reply here, and have just found it by chance when I logged in.
I'm near Sudbury (Essex/Suffolk border) and have been here since 2017, having moved from NE Wales.
I'm just hoping to make some new friends to chat with!
Do you still get over to London? Since moving here I've been there just a couple of times by train, but of course Covid has put a stop to it - for now.
Are you all ready for Christmas? Like you, I also enjoy looking at all the goodies in these Christmas fairs.
Hope to hear from you.
Best wishes

Gosh! Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? I don’t understand this site either. I logged in this time under My Account and have found all sorts of interesting things I haven’t seen before - including your reply to me of the 15th Dec.
You are not far from me at Sudbury. Are you actually Welsh? My son is living on the Wirral ( near Liverpool) so he’s very close to Wales. One of my favourite places is the Gower, though of course the south side, but I can’t see me getting there again.
No, I haven’t been to London in years. I went once with my daughter to Westminster Abbey to see my grandfather’s name in their book of remembrance: he was in the 1st Westminster’s Regiment and died in the 1st World War. Then I used to change at Liverpool St to go to Euston and Liverpool Lime St. Let. me know if you are going - might be fun.
I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year - ours was quiet but enjoyable.
Take care, hope to hear from you soon.
Val
Happy Birthday! How are you today? Did your family get in touch?
Remember age is just a number!
I am sure there will be some more chat on here when others have read the posts.
I used to work for Local Govt too, back in the day, as they say.
I am not retired, I am in my 50s so still working. However, most of the time I am working from home now which has it s positives.
Imagine, no commute!. No rush hour. Getting the dinner on slow cook!
1 positive to come out of Lockdown working!
Anyhow, good night or day whenever you read this reply.
I will be working from home most of the days now. I agree with what you are saying . It definitely has got its advantages.
Thanks very much ,for the birthday wishes. Sorry I’ve taken so long to reply, I’ve had a busy week, culminating with having my Covid booster today.
I can’t believe I’m that old, and still remember my County Council days vividly. I think we had it good compared with now, with a big emphasis on flexi working and ‘work/life balance’. All that seems to have gone out of the window. I’ve just made contact with someone I used to know from work, although we weren’t particularly close, and she and I have great fun reminiscing about old times. We both knew things the other one didn’t -and we’re good friends now.
It must be a relief to be out of all the office politics. What sort of work do you do now? sounds like you’re London based? with the rush hour. That’s where I started my working life - many many moons ago.
Anyway.....
.
Valerie
I live in Sheffield so its nothing like a London Commute haha.
I do prefer working from home as I get more done both work wise and home life so its win win.
Take Care
