Wedding Song
Wedding Song
Nine years ago at the Stonehouse Bar
They met, as decreed by their guiding star.
After all that fro-ing and to-ing
It’s clear these two know just what they’re doing.
What to drink as the wedding bells ring?
Iced champagne or rum and Ting?
For the Island child of sea and sun
Gavin is her Number One.
A mountaintop in Malaysia,
Gavin down on bended knee,
Jennifer- will you marry me?
For Gav, Jen is the top of the tree.
He’s rescued her from 8-legged frights-
Spiders, crabs, mosquito bites.
Two hearts entwined, yet speak their mind.
Do what is right -go fly your kite.
Close as can be in warm embrace,
But still to give each other space-
Love, often contradictory,
No one can tell what is to be.
Triumph and tragedy? Sunlit smiles?
Good fortune for the coming miles?
Moments of ecstasy, some of despair:
Both of you win if the other is there.
Facing the bad as well as the good
Life to be faced and understood.
Love-not always a bed of roses,
Thorns and bugs among the posies.
Nurtured and cherished all possible ways,
Love will last till the end of days.
