The little worm

The little worm

The little worm all warm and cosy in his hole underground
Said to his mum, when spring is here I am going out.
The mum said oh no you can’t, you might get eaten by a bird.
A bird what’s that?
I’ll be it’s friend and then it won’t eat me.

So when the primroses started to bloom
the little worm wriggled up through all the soil.
He poked his head out and felt the sun and
Thought oh this is a nice place to be.
I’ll wriggle some more and go explore.

So across the grass it wriggled on until
He came across his mum.
Go back young worm it’s dangerous here
But before he could a bird swooped down.
Hello young worm
You look juicy, just what I fancy for my tea.

The little worm looked and said you can’t eat me
I’m to young and need to grow.
Oh can’t I now the blackbird said my
Fledglings need you for their tea.
In one fell swoop she picked it up
And flew away to its nest.

As it flew the little worm wriggled and fell
Out of the blackbirds beak.
It fell near his mum who cried and cried
So pleased to have her little worm home.

They wriggled down under the soil
To where they lived in their cosy home.
I think I’ll stay awhile he said
No birds dinner will I be.
