Have you had a cancer scare?I went to my GP because of sciatica and was sent for an MIR scan. Went for result and before I was even sat down I got Told I had cancer. I had previously had breast cancer in 2010. He asked if anyone with me and I said my husband was in the waiting room. He got him in and repeated what he had said. Then I am sending you for a c t scan. Any questions? Well i was like a deer caught in headlights and couldn't think. Had the second scan and was called back in. The GP asked if we were expecting to hear anything different. I stuttered not really. He then said I am sending you to an Oncologist and asked if I Had Told friends and family and pushed a box of tissues at me. Again any questions. How could I ask questions when I didn't know really anything about it. We left and in the corridor I leant against the wall and burst into tears. One the receptionists who was walking by put is in a private room. We didn't stay long. I was totally shocked and told in such a brutal way I was left reeling. My husband then rang surgery the next day and was told that an appointment had been made at my local hospital and that I was to attend the radiology dept on the Monday and that a letter would follow. Now having had experience previously I thought that odd but maybe things had changed. On the Monday still no letter. My husband rang at 8.00am and was told he needed to speak to a secretary who didn't start until 9.30am. He rang but phone constantly engaged, He decided to go over and speak to the 'receptionist and got Told again that the Secretary didn't start until 9.30am. He pointed out that it was 9.50am. Anyway, he came back with the same info. So off we went as directed to the radiology dept to be told that there was no appointment. A very kind nurse finally tracked down where I should go. Saw the on oncologist who explained very well what had happened to me. I was told i had metastatic secondary breast cancer in my bones in my back. She told me that I would be passed over to another Dr to deal with. I asked if any specialist nurses were available if I had any questions and got Told that they were not provided for secondary cancers. She then left the room and came back and asked if we had private cover. We do and actually have a private appt on Friday evening. She indicated that it might be better for me to use it as I would get better access to drugs not yet taken up by the NHS. Maybe also clinical trials if thought appropriate. I am appalled at my treatment by my GP. I am sad that I can access drugs because of insurance that may be denied to others. I am just at the start, I have been tearful, depressed as I grieve for a future I do not have with my husband and family. We are due to go to the USA in July. If I respond well to treatment I may still be able to travel. I have found out that when you mention cancer mist companies don't want to know or charge astronomical fees. So I being penalised for having cancer.ViewDate:

Would you want to take your dog on holiday with you if you could? We have taken our dog with us to dog friendly hotels and cottages. We are going to Spain soon and will have to leave her for a couple of weeks. She goes to a very good kennels where I know she is well looked after but it's still difficult leaving her. We are going to a Cointry House wedding in December. We know two dogs are going and we are waiting to see if ours can come as well. Really hope so.ViewDate:

How would you solve the NHS crisis? For a start I'd cut out some of the layers of management. Too many paid to much. Invest more money being sent as foreign aid. Employ more GP's and then they can stop moaning about how many hours they work and their workload can be more easily shared. They get paid huge salaries so let them earn it. There are days every week where they are closed for staff training. No weekend appointments. If you want an appointment. you ring the surgery first thing in the morning and so does everyone else. You can't get through and give up. If you work you try again at lunchtime to be told all appointments have been taken and ring again tomorrow. It's no wonder people go to A&E.ViewDate:

Advice needed please!I work as an Estate Agent in the North East. I am not sure where you live but the area of Yarm and Eaglescliffe are very nice places to live . In fact Yarm was voted the best high street in the country at one time. Has you Agent spoken to you about Auction for your property. You would set a price and a reserve price on your property. The first price is usually lower than the market value to attract viewings on your property. The contract is between you and urge auction house with the purchaser paying the fee. You should not have to pay the estate agent ant fee. We find this is a very successful way of selling properties often sales going through exceeding the asking price. It might be worth having a chat with your Agent about this. People would but your property as seen. Worth a go. Hope this helps.ViewDate:

How has your life been affected by arthritis?Rheumatoid arthritis aged 40 and osteoarthritis aged 54. I can no longer do impact exercising but still work out at the gym and swim. Have had to give up hiking as my feet can no longer cope. I take mediciation every day. Recently my hands have stared to become very painful and as I use a computer and write every day this is not good. My employer is a small company and nothing is done to offer me any assistance. I just struggle on. I claim no benefits and probably would not be entitled to any as my husband is on a very good wage. Indo have a disabled badge but because I do not look disabled I have over the years had comments addressed to me saying why did I park in a disabled bay when there is nothing wrong with me. Little donthey know. I just shrugnit off as I am not about to discuss my medical history with a stranger. I find that heat helps a lot which is one of the reasons I like to travel. Off to Spain next week andnjustmknow I will ache less. -
