Seventeen Again
Seventeen Again
Body’s aching, back is breaking
Knees are giving up,
Eyes are waning, hips are paining
Can’t even grasp a cup.
Bones are creaking, bladders leaking
Hair is going grey
Family come to visit
I really wish they’d stay.
Blood Pressure rising, no compromising
Heart is on the blink
Where did I leave those keys?
I really cannot think.
Wait a minute who’s that knocking
Heart is all a flutter,
Hands a rose “This is for you”
He manages to stutter.
First love blooming, passion all consuming
Dancing on the floor
Lips just touching, Faces blushing
Seventeen once more.
Food is mushed, voices hushed
Playing childish games
“Come on now, time for exercise
With your Zimmer frames”
Take your pill, you’re over the hill
Treated like a child
Early bed, go rest your head
No chance of going wild.
Wait a minute what is that
Going out at ten?
Yes, they were the good old days
Wish I was Seventeen again
Food quite bad, it makes me sad
An insult to the senses
Entertainment boring, people snoring
Too old for pretenses.
Hair receding, gums are bleeding
Dr. checks your pulse
Can’t just go out on a whim
Acting on impulse.
Wait a minute what’s that sound?
Is that a disco beat
Foot is tapping, hands are clapping
Now I am on my feet
Forget the aches, there’s no mistake
I am still quite sane
And just for a moment
I am seventeen again.
