Remember
Remember
The guns fall silent at long last.
The war is over.
The rain weeps soft tears over pitted ground.
The wind blows against the barbed wire.
Helmets, guns, bodies lie,
Mud everywhere.
An eerie silence pervades.
A bird can be heard calling.
A single poppy grows amongst the devastation.
A soldier stands, head bowed.
He remembers, will you?
Remember what they did.
Remember who they were.
Remember they died for us.
Remember.
