Poems for Children
A SILLY OLD CAT CALLED JEREMIAH
A silly old cat called Jeremiah
Loved to sit by the fire
This silly cat he never learned
Was always getting his whiskers burned
One day while snoozing on the mat
Alas this very silly cat
Got to close to the open fire
And things became very dire
Not just his whiskers did he scorch
His whole body he did torch
And now silly old Jeremiah
Has to sit beside the fire
This silly cat you could not warn
Has no fur to keep him warm.
THE TOOKAROO
If you ever meet a Tookaroo
He’ll be polite, say how’d ya do
But keep your distance, he’s not that charming
For a Tookaroos diet is quite alarming
It’s little children he likes most
He likes them best on thick white toast
But especially boiled in a stew
That’s the favourite food of a Tookaroo.
MY TWO FRONT TEETH ARE MISSING
My two front teeth are missing
They came out just last night
I found them in an apple
From which I took a bite.
MANNERS OF A LOUSE
A slippery snake slides along the ground
Goes into a hole that he has found
But in the hole is a little mouse
Who tells the snake, GET OUT MY HOUSE!
The slippery snake is none to happy
In fact becomes a little snappy
Where’s your manners he asks the mouse
You have the manners of a louse
MANNERS! said the little mouse
It’s YOU who slid into MY house
I did not invite you that’s for sure
At this the snake opens wide his jaw
And gobbles up the little mouse
Who had the manners of a louse.
