Pilates Poem

Wednesday evening Pilates with John Hennessey
Be sure to do things right or he will not be happy

Zip & hollow for pelvic floor, breathing in to prepare
Exhaling through pursed lips. Make your movements with flare

‘We’re starting with the right leg, right leg, right leg I say’
He’ll make us start again if someone does it the wrong way

‘Don’t stick your bum out!’ ‘Keep knees & feet in tight!’
‘Don’t do anything yet, I’ll show you how to do it right’

His weapon of torture changes; O-ring, wheel, tube or ball
Different muscles being used, he tries to work them all

The O-ring is quite funny, when we’re shuffling side to side
Or sweeping feet like angry bulls. You cannot take feet wide

The wheel for some is tricky, you must not let it drop,
when rolling from your back to front. Will the torment ever stop?

The tube is like a stretchy band with handles at each end
Lots of different movements to help you flex and bend

The ball is my worst nightmare, I dread when it’s its turn
Holding it at arms-length makes shoulders ache & burn

Naked Pilates is NOT just that, we still workout fully dressed
But we only do the basics which I think I like the best

Whichever is your favourite, John will instruct you well
To guarantee long term results, it’s obvious, can’t you tell?

All this bending & stretching may not look elegant
But it helps to keep us more supple than a big old elephant!

Hello there, I'm Nikki & I'm also known as The Keynsham Poet. I write light-hearted poetry all the time & I mean all the time. It's a daily occurrence & many of my poems get shared via 'The Keynsham Poet' Facebook. I've had several published in local newspapers and I've been commissioned to write poems for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays & funerals. I've been writing poetry ever since I can remember & some are obviously much better than others. I'm from a large family so have had plenty of inspiration over the years. I'm inspired by world events, weather, animals, people, politics & more recently the dreaded coronavirus. I'd like to share my poems with you from time to time. Hope you enjoy!
